MANILA, Philippines – The first trailer for Kabisera, one of the Metro Manila Film Festival 2016 entries, is out!

Kabisera, starring Nora Aunor and Ricky Davao follows a seemingly perfect family as they deal with violent crimes and extra-judicial killings.

The trailer above shows clips of the family and their struggle with justice along with peaceful, happy scenes.

Aside from Nora and Ricky, Kabisera also stars award-winning actors JC De Vera, Jason Abalos, Victor Neri, RJ Agustin, and Ronwaldo Martin.

Kabisera, directed by Arturo Boy San Agustin and Real Florido will be in theaters on December 25. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – Popular K-pop group 2NE1 has officially disbanded, according to a statement from their management, YG Entertainment.

An English version of the statement was posted on the K-pop website Soompi on Thursday, November 24.

It read that former 2NE1 members CL and Sandara Park have signed with YG as solo acts and not as part of the girl group.

Another member, Park Bom, has not signed with YG.

In April, a month before 2NE1's contract with YG ended, the label announced that former member Gong Minzy decided to leave the group. At the time, YG said that the group will continue with the remaining 3 members.

In the November statement, YG also thanked 2NE1's supporters and explained why the group decided to disband.

"As 2NE1 was YG’s official girl group for 7 years, we cannot begin to express how we feel, but we determined that it was too difficult to continue. Rather than waiting an unknown amount of time for 2NE1’s next promotions, we have decided to focus on the members’ solo activities," they said.

“We sincerely thank all the fans both in Korea and abroad that have loved the group and their music for all this time."

2NE1 was formed in 2009 and has since won awards and released albums in both Korean and Japanese. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – When none of the Metro Manila Film Festival regulars made it to the lineup this year, many moviegoers were surprised – including the stars. (FULL LIST: 8 MMFF 2016 entries revealed)

Many of the movie franchises that were often featured in the MMFF in the past –including series like Enteng Kabisote and Mano Po– were snubbed in favor of independently produced films. (READ: MMFF 2016 revamped: 10 important changes to know)

MMFF 2016 screening committee members said during a press conference after the lineup announcement that their choices had nothing to do with mainstream or indie films.

Nicanor Tiongson, chairman of the screening committee, told the reporters: "It is wrong to dumb them [the audience] down, huwag natin gawin 'yun kasi condescending 'yun (Let's not do that because it's condescending). Dapat if we know what quality is, then let's try and keep that quality."

In response to a question about the ongoing debate on what makes a quality film, Vic Sotto, who stars in Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers, spoke up at a press conference for the movie on Friday, November 25.

"Alam mo, yung salitang quality, kung baga (You know, the word 'quality'), beauty is in the eyes of the beholder," said Vic.

He added later: "Kung sinabi mong quality, ano ba ang definition mo ng quality? ... Ano ba ang panlasa ninyo? Ano ba ang panlasa ko? Ano ba ang naging panlasa ng committee? Iba sa panlasa ng kararaming nanonood ng pelikulang Pilipino."

(When you say quality, what is your definition of quality? What appeals to your taste? What appeals to mine? What is the taste of the committee? It's different from many of the people who watch Filipino movies.)

He may be wrong, he said, but we'll find out when the MMFF 2016 opens. "Baka naman nagbago na ang panlasa ng mga manonood ng mga pelikulang Pilipino... So it really depends on kung ano taste mo. Walang makakapagsabi na 'Ako quality ako, ito hindi quality.' Iba-iba ang taste niyan eh."

(Maybe the taste of those who watch Filipino movies have changed... So it really depends on your taste. No one can say, 'I'm good quality, that other one is not.' Everyone's tastes are different.)

Vic, however, said that he shared the same opinion as that of Lily Monteverde of Regal Entertainment and Malou Santos of Star Cinema: "Pwede ka naman gumawa ng may kalidad na magugustuhan ng kararami (You can make quality that many people will like), especially the younger viewers," said Vic. Like Enteng Kabisote, neither Regal Entertainment's regular bet – the 7th installment of the Mano Po series – nor Star Cinema's bet – a movie starring Vice Ganda – made it to the MMFF. (Out of MMFF 2016, Vice Ganda and Coco Martin see bright side of exclusion)

For each of the 3 franchises, this is the first time that they were not included in the festival.

On not making it, Vic said that he was sad that this year broke tradition, but he's feeling fine: "Pakiramdam, okay lang. For a while I was disappointed, but as I always say, life goes on, life will go on, laughs will go on. Kahit na hindi December 25 ang aming play date, sabi nga ni kuya Joey [de Leon], November 30 ang bagong Pasko para sa mga pelikula. I was disappointed for the kids, for the younger viewers."

Vic said that he had nothing against the 8 films chosen, but most were for adults. Most kids, he said, would use their Christmas money to watch movies with their families during Christmas. The MMFF always opens on December 25.

This year, both Enteng Kabiste 10 and The Super Parental Guardians starring Vice will be released on November 30.

"Siguro pareho kami ng frame of mind, pareho kami ng pag-iisip ng Star Cinema na to show it earlier para mas maagang maramdaman yung Pasko," said Vic, adding that releasing the two movies on the same date isn't a problem: "At yun na nagkakasabay, sanay kami ni Vice na may 6 pang kasabay eh."

MANILA, Philippines – Paolo Ballesteros finds himself in a unique position this movie season – he starred in two movies that were in the running to be in the Metro Manila Film Festival lineup, and only one of them made it.

Die Beautiful, a movie for which Paolo won Best Actor at the Tokyo International Film Festival, is in the 2016 lineup.

Meanwhile, Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers, is not. The movie, starring MMFF regular Vic Sotto, was one of the films that were snubbed, along with the Vice Ganda movie The Super Parental Guardians and the 7th installment of Mano Po.

Following many changes to the MMFF this year – including changes to its executive committee, the criteria for selection, and the submission rules – mostly independently produced films are set to screen on December 25.

At the same conference, Paolo was asked about how he felt, given the situation he was in.

"Siyempre, mixed emotions, dahil same yung namang level na effort na binigay ko sa Die Beautiful, parehas lang naman dito sa Enteng Kabisote," he said. (Of course, mixed emotions, because the level of effort that I gave for Die Beautiful is the same that I gave to Enteng Kabisote. You can see that how hard I worked is the same as how hard Bossing [Vic Sotto] worked. I experienced firsthand what time we would go home, right?)

Paolo added that all the films that were submitted must have been great in quality, or the filmmakers would not have sent them in.

He continued, providing the perspective of those who worked with in Die Beautiful: "'Yung sa amin naman, 'yung wish kasi namin sana is mapanood ng mga Filipino audience, yung sa'min, kasi nagpremiere siya sa Japan, napanood ng mga Hapon, eh nagustohan naman nila. Eh, we're thinking na parang what more kaya kung yung mga Pinoy yung makakapanood?"

(For us, we just wished that the Filipino audience would be able to see it, because it premiered in Japan, and the Japanese saw it and liked it. We're thinking, what more if Filipinos watched it?)

Enteng Kabisote will now screen on November 30 instead, which Paolo said could be better for audiences: "'Mas maganda naman, kasi mas maaga naman ang Pasko natin ngayon." (It's better, because Christmas is coming early this year.)

Vic himself had great things to say about Paolo, saying during the press conference that the 8 movies chosen for the festival wouldn't have been chosen if they weren't good – "lalo na 'yung Die Beautiful (especially Die Beautiful)." – Rappler.com

John Paul Su’s Toto opens in a somber note, with news footage of Yolanda wreaking havoc on Tacloban. 

What ensues after is a complete shift in mood. From stark tragedy, the film immediately changes focus, concentrating on Toto (Sid Lucero), who just woke up from a good night’s sleep, now dancing in his underwear before dressing up for his U.S. Visa interview. The film is bound to get silly. 

Overt satire

Of course, Toto is denied a visa, or else there wouldn’t be Su’s film that overtly satirizes a man’s indefatigable dream to live and work and in the United States. 

Su and his co-writer Donald Martin have carved a tale that pokes fun at the extreme lengths one man would go just to fulfill a mission, no matter how brazenly ludicrous. The story is far-fetched, with a deluge of characters all of which have very simplistic motivations of either exploiting Toto’s predicament or dangerously patronizing him.

In a way, the film’s protagonist, like Dorothy’s dog with whom he shares a name, is taken for a ride towards an Emerald City that can be full of either promises or disappointments. Toto is best seen as a caricature of a nation’s dogged obsession over greener pastures found abroad.

Skewed ambitions

A lot of its parts do not make sense when pitted against reality. However, the film isn’t meant to perfectly mirror real life. It opts for exaggerations, enunciating what already is patently absurd to make a pressing critique of the hopelessness with which others view their country.

Su is right to start Toto with images of catastrophe. The film needs to begin from a dark place to shed light on an issue of skewed ambition.

Toto, as played ingeniously by Lucero, is a character whose most notable virtue is his single-minded determination. However, in the midst of tragedy, his grit slowly reeks of despair for his own identity. He takes each and every opportunity to escape, whether it be from a con artist who promises to marry him if he pays the right price or from a benevolent foreigner who sees him as a soul to be salvaged from the third world.

Comedy and drama

The film has a lot of hilarious moments. Thankfully, it doesn’t stop at simply being an aimless spoof or an offensive parody. Its laughter, however, is rife with pain and melancholy.

Toto’s comedy is a result of its portrayal of stubborn perseverance, its drama, from desperation. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – On Friday, November 25, many took to the streets to protest the burial of former president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes' Cementery), including a few performers and famous personalities.

This, after former president Ferdinand Marcos was buried at the LNMB on November 18, to the outrage of many citizens across the country. Protesters took to the streets to rally against the surprise actions of the Marcoses and its impact on the country today.

The November 25 rally at Luneta Park was organized by the Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses in Malacañang (Carmma), along with youth and student organizations. Other rallies were held simultaneously all over the country. 

Among the performers at Luneta that night were Bayang Barrios, Jess Santiago, and bands like The General Strike and Tubao.

Chris Martinez’s Working Beks takes its cue from Bernal’s Working Girls, Ishmael Bernal’s 1984 portrait of women thriving in the work place.

What makes Bernal’s film irresistibly interesting is how he and screenwriter Amado Lacuesta were able to weave together various tales, whether grounded in humor or more serious issues, within a setting that is comfortably recognizable. Its characters, all portrayed by actresses like Hilda Coronel, Gina Pareno, Carmi Martin, Chanda Romero and Rio Locsin, effortlessly flesh out both the levity and gravity of their characters. They are all carved from stereotypes but are nevertheless engaging examples of of women coping in a man’s world. 

Strung by a scandal 

Working Beksadopts a similar structure.

The five narrative threads that Martinez’s film follows are connected by a video of supposedly straight matinee idol Champ (Edgar Allan Guzman) being intimate with another guy. Champ, who has suddenly disappeared, leaving behind various commitments and media engagements, is now preparing to fix everything by spinning the scandal to favor his current love team. Tommy (TJ Trinidad), the marketing director or a beverage company with Champ as an endorser, is in the running for a deserved promotion.

Gorgeous (John Lapus), who operates a small canteen outside Tommy’s office, is the underappreciated sole breadwinner of her family. On the day of his wedding, Mandy (Joey Paras) watches Champ's scandal, awakening sexual urges which he has repressed for quite a while. Elsewhere, Jet (Prince Stefan) is worried he might have contracted HIV. 

Prolonged skits

As with most multi-narrative features, Martinez’s film flounders with some stories that are considerably weaker, which eclipses or steals the limelight from the film’s ambition to mount something more profound. 

Mandy’s storyline, which enunciates the gross absurdity of stopping what is clearly inherent, is played out to be silly. Gorgeous’ attempts in establishing pathos is watered down by an overly simplified portrayal of a familiar plight. Jet’s thread staggers towards a predictable outcome a little bit too long. In essence, Working Bekslacks novelty to graduate its separate portions from being prolonged sketches of troubled gays finding resolutions to their diverse conflicts. 

The biggest problem of Working Beks however is its indisputable insistence on making everything hilarious, which in this case, betrays the film’s efforts in directing all the storylines into a more poignant area. Jokes are fired left and right. Some work. Some don’t. By the time Martinez concludes everything, tying all the loose ends in an attempt to flavor the romp with more serious emotions, it’s too late. It’s a carnival wanting to be a ball.

In the end, the film feels more like a hodgepodge of ideas that barely cohere. 

Merit to the madness 

But there is real merit to the madness.

Working Beks, even in its loudest and most uneven moments, echoes sentiments that deserve to be expressed and heard. Martinez knows that the best way to say what needs to be said is to package them in a product that is accessible, even if it reinforces stereotypes of gays that mainstream media has exploited for profit. – Rappler.com

Star Magic has long been managing Julia's career, beginning from when she started as a child actress. Many were surprised when she did not attend the Star Magic Ball last October.

From its first frame to its last, Kim Jee-woon’s The Age of Shadows keeps things superbly tense.

A spy thriller set during the Japanese occupation of Korea, the film is as handsomely put together as it is intricately plotted.

Sensuously sophisticated 

Lee Jung-chool (Song Kang-ho) used to be a resistance fighter before he switched sides to serve as police chief for the Japanese.

Tasked to smoke out members of the resistance, he becomes acquainted with Kim Woo-jin (Gong Yoo), an antiques dealer in Seoul who the Japanese believes will lead them to the resistance’s leader. Lee Jung-chool’s plans are complicated by the entry of Hashimoto (Um Tae-goo), an ambitious upstart who wants to have all the glory of foiling the resistance for himself.

The plot actually isn’t all that complicated.

However, Kim shapes his film to enunciate the double dealings, the undercover operations, the doubts and suspicions that pervade the exquisitely detailed period. The result is a film that feels sensuously sophisticated even if its storyline is replete with all the trends and trappings of its decades old genre.

Meticulous filmmaking 

Kim is a meticulous director. A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) is a gripping mood piece whose most frightening portions aren’t reliant on predictable scares but on the perfectly evolved atmosphere that Kim evoked out of arresting visuals and subtexts. The Good, The Bad, and the Weird (2008) is an absurd reinterpretation of the Western. Even The Last Stand (2013), Kim’s collaboration with Arnold Schwarzenegger, is a decent actioner with some outstanding set pieces.

In The Age of Shadows, Kim commits to the labyrinthine and sometimes overstretched take on political and personal intrigue. 

It is a thoroughly plotted film, carefully constructed to make sense most especially when the plot explodes all over. It climaxes at the right time, with twists and turns are perfectly placed to produce all the apt emotions. The result is an intricate but convincing portrait of a world where anything can happen, where enemies are allies, and allies are foes. 

Vigor and excitement 

The Age of Shadows is brimming with vigor. There is excitement even from unlikely conversations and telling moments of silence. It really is something to behold, a defiant piece of entertainment that actually succeeds even when it shouldn’t. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – The wedding video of Rufa Mae Quinto and Trevor Magallanes has been released. In the video posted by Teena Barretto Events on Facebook, we get a peek at the lovely vows exchanged between the couple, who got engaged last February. 

The video was taken by Limacon Still and Motion with photographers Bob Nicolas, Lito Sy, Nelwin Uy, Jervy Santiago, and Mervin Gobaco.

"I always prayed to have a family of my own. It's a dream and now it's a reality. Yes, my dreams came true," she said.

Trevor meanwhile told his wife: "I know that you said that I sacrificed a lot for you, but I...it was really worth it and it was the best decision that I ever made.

It was an emotional wedding, with some of Rufa Mae's showbiz friends seen wiping their tears. Some of the personalities who were present included LJ Moreno, Joyce Jimenez, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Aiko Melendez. Grace Lee, and Jean Garcia.  

In an interview last September on Rated K, Rufa Mae talked about marrying Trevor and her pregnancy. Although she was worried in the beginning, Rufa Mae said she is looking forward to being a mom.

MANILA, Philippines – On Sunday, November 27, Kris Aquino took to Instagram to share fond memories of her late father, former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr, who would have turned 84 years old that day.

"I got to know my Dad as a Father from May 1980 to August 1983. When he was jailed during Martial Law, I was only one year and 7 months old," wrote Kris.

After years of exile in the United States, Ninoy died on August 21, 1983. He was assassinated upon arriving at the Manila International Airport, which is now named after him.

"Those Boston years with him were special. My Dad was brilliant and had a photographic memory. Our bonding would be while watching the evening news, him quizzing me about what I read in Time and Newsweek, us watching 60 Minutes and CNN, and every month on a Friday we'd have a Dad and bunso (youngest chile) date, we'd go to Barnes & Noble and I could buy all the books and magazines I wanted for as long as I finished reading them within that month and then we'd have ice cream," she wrote.

Kris said that her love for books, magazines, and newspapers was because of her dad.

Sandara did not post the letter on her social media accounts, but her fan groups shared it on Twitter. Although it was not mentioned when it was written, the video showed it was done during the taping of the show Pinoy Boyband Superstar, where she sits as a judge.

Last week, YG Entertainment announced that 2NE1 was disbanding. Sandara and fellow member CL, however, will remain part of the company as solo artists. 

Back in April, a month before 2NE1's contract with YG ended, the label announced that Gong Minzy had decided to leave the group. At the time, YG said the group would continue with the remaining 3 members.

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Actor Baron Geisler, who's been in the public eye in a number of occasions for various altercations, is once again involved in a conflict – this time with actor Ping Medina and director Arlyn dela Cruz.

The two have warned film industry members against working with Baron, following an incident where Baron allegedly peed on Ping during a shoot for a movie. 

On Monday, November 28, Ping recounted the incident on Facebook, saying that they had been on location in Subic to shoot scenes for Bubog.

According to Ping, he and Baron were shooting a scene where Ping's character, an informant, would be carried into a cargo crate, bound and gagged. Baron was supposed to enter the crate, remove the tape from Ping's mouth to hear him beg for his life, then leave him for his 3 goons to kill.

"Right before mag take dun may narinig akong sinabi ka [Baron]: 'May gagawin ako sayo Ping ah. Sana 'wag ka magalit,'" Ping wrote.

(Right before we did the take, I heard you [Baron] saying: 'I'm going to do something to you, Ping. I hope you don't get mad.)

Ping said that he thought Baron would spit on him during the scene. Instead, Baron unzipped his pants and peed on him. He shared:

"Nung hinagis ako ng 3 pulis sa sahig, pumasok na si tarantado. Tumayo siya sa tabi ko, hovering over me.

(When the 3 police threw me onto the floor, the idiot came in. He stood beside me, hovering over me.)

"Habang umiiyak ako, nagmamakaawa, di makagalaw dahil naka packaging tape ang kamay at paa, at parang napansin ko: binubuksan ba ni Baron ang zipper niya? Siguro dahil ang lalim ko na sa eksena. Umiiyak ako at may mga luha ang mga mata ko kaya di ko makita nang mabuti.

(While I was crying, begging, couldn't move because of the packaging tape around my feet, I noticed: is Baron opening his zipper? I guess because I was so deep into the scene. I was crying and there were tears in my eyes so I couldn't see properly.)

"In fairness, wala rin naman masyado makikita. Iniisip ko, baka daliri lang niya yun. Mukhang pinky finger? Kamukha at kasing hugis ng lumang chips na Cornetto. (Totoo ata ang chismis.)

(In fairness, there wasn't much to see. I thought, maybe it was just his finger. It looked like a pinky finger? It looked and was the same shape as the old Cornetto chips. (The rumors are true.)

"Pero tangina!!! Gagawin ba niya talaga ang gagawin niya???

(But son of a b-tch!!! Is he really going to do what he looks like he's going to do???)

"Napakabilis ng pangyayari. Naramdaman ko na lang na may bumabasa sa dibdib ko. Medyo mainit at may amoy. Unti unti ko na realize na putangina, ginagawa niya talaga to. Umagos ito. Basang basa ang shirt ko. Umagos ito hanggang sa bibig ko. Buti may nakatakip na tape."

(It all happened so fast. I felt that my chest was wet. It was a bit warm and there was a smell. I slowly realized that son of a b-tch, he really did it. It flowed. My shirt was wet. It ran onto my mouth. Its a good thing it was covered in tape.)

Ping said he tried to stay in character, as they were only supposed to do the scene in one take.

When they finished filming the scene, Arlyn and Baron went into the cargo crate set and Ping confronted Baron:

"Cut! Pasukan sila direk at si mokong. Nung tinanggal ang tape sa bibig ko, ang una kong nasabi, 'Putangina mo hayop ka.'

(Cut! Direk and the moron came in. When they removed the tape from my mouth, the first thing I said was 'Son of a b-tch, you're an animal.')

Ping asked Baron more than once if it was real pee, but Baron denied it. 

"Tinignan ko ang mga kasama ko na 3 pulis [actors on set]. Tahimik sila, at mukhang nalugi. Nakita ko ang totoong sagot sa mga mukha nila,'" wrote Ping.

(I looked at the 3 police [actors on set] that I was with. They were quiet and looked like they had lost. I saw the true answer in their faces.)

Arlyn asked Baron to leave the cargo crate, and Ping, unable to keep his temper, punched and kicked the metal walls.

He then rushed out and challenged Baron to fight, but backed off after seeing that Baron wasn't interested in fighting back. 

"Dahil alam ko, kapag nabigyan na kita ng isa, mageenjoy na ako. At hindi ko na alam ang magagawa ko sayo. Malamang something na pagsisisihan ko. Yung tubo sa gilid, muntik ko na damputin. Kaya naglakad ng lang ako palayo."

(Because I know if I give you one punch, I'll enjoy myself. And I don't know what I could do to you. Of course, it would be something I'd regret. I almost picked up the pipe by the side. So I just walked away.)

Ping said that when he calmed down, he asked to be brought to the hospital, as he felt that he had broken his hand. Fortunately, his "boxer's fracture" will not need surgery, he said.

Plea to industry members

Earlier in his post, Ping said that when he first saw Baron on set, he seemed calm and sober. Baron has a history of alcohol addiction.

Ping added that Baron was drinking turmeric tea and claimed to be 5 days sober, as his mother was in the hospital and didn't want to smell alcohol. Baron also promised Arlyn he wouldn't drink on set.

The two actors spoke for hours, before Baron borrowed P200 from Ping at 4 am. Baron's friend later came back with alcohol instead of the food Baron told Ping he would ask her to buy.

Ping also had trouble rehearsing with Baron the next day – he had spotted Baron holding a beer, he said, and the actor was slowly turning red during rehearsals.

After Ping recounted the incident on Facebook, he said that before industry members took on a project, they should first ask if Baron was involved.

He called out ABS-CBN's Cory Vidanes, GMA's Jake Tordecillas, and indie filmmakers to be wary of Baron.

Ping ended his post with a message for Baron: "Darating ang lahat nang papunta sayo. Dahil itong 2016 ay ang year of the 'change is coming.' Kaya please, lahat ng kasama ko sa industriya pakinggan niyo ang panawagan ko. Dahil pag nangyari 'yun, kukuha ako ng popcorn at beer na parang nasa sine lang ako."

Arlyn dela Cruz's statement

Hours before Ping recounted his version of events, Arlyn posted about the incident on Facebook as well, but did not give details on the incident.

Like Ping, she also gave a message to Baron:

"What you did on the set, for the film Bubog is unacceptable and cannot be justified by any claim of being in character because I repeatedly explained to you and was clearly written on the script where your character is coming from and how I wanted it to be tackled, stressing that the idea is, power is felt, not expressed. To show true might, in subdued silence and suppressed emotions.

Ping Medina does not deserve what you did. No actor deserves that. No person deserves that."

Arlyn also called on her fellow filmmakers not to cast Baron in their projects, saying, "You told Ping you are ready to face the consequences of your action. Be ready to face it. Because you cannot get away with everything that you do, all the time. To my fellow filmmakers, you may think you need Baron in your movies... but you don't... you really don't."

Baron made headlines in May after he was caught on video cursing at a student and violently grabbing him. He was also the subject of controversy in June, after he and Kiko Matos settled their altercation at a bar through a mixed martial arts fight.

Baron's response

On Monday, November 28, Baron responded to Arlyn's post, apologizing to the director and saying that the issue was a misunderstanding. 

"I asked you 3 times na 'Direk, may gagawin po ako,' then you just said gawin mo nalang sa eksena. Kung tinanong nyo po ako kung ano yun di sana naiwasan ang mga bagay na ito," wrote Baron. 

(I asked you 3 times, 'Direk, I'm going to do something,' then you said to just do the scene. If you had asked what I was going to do, then we could have avoided this.)

Baron also said that if one checked the behind-the-scenes footage, Arlyn couldn't prove that he was disrespectful to anyone. 

"But you were trying to pull off a Brillante Mendoza, bulong ka sa artista na samapalin mo para magulat or maganda reaction (whisper to the artist to slap somone so he'll be caught by surprise or the reaction will be nice)," said Baron, referring to award-winning director Brillante Mendoza, the man behind the 2016 Cannes Film Festival nominee Ma' Rosa. 

"I was slapped many times. So I thought... ahhh... 'so it's okay pala to surprise my co-actors sa (on) set.'

Baron called Arlyn out for trying to influence other filmmakers against him: "So low po of you to discredit my name. You are better than that po. Mahal kita (I love you)."

Ping and director Arlyn dela Cruz both warned film industry members against working with Baron, following the incident.

On Facebook on Monday, November 28, Baron posted his own reaction to Ping and Arlyn's posts.

Meanwhile, Arlyn took to Facebook to explain her side of events, saying that Baron was asked to show no emotion when killing Ping's character during the scene in question.

Arlyn said she rehearsed and demonstrated what she wanted of each actor. For Baron in particular, she said: "He knew I focused on his execution of the role, explained to him where the character is coming from because I do not want a shade of Baron in the acting of Baron here... not the usual."

While Baron is sober, said Arlyn, he understands and follows her direction, but this time, he was drunk and groggy from his anti-depressant pills.

Arlyn speculated that Baron's urinating on Ping was a need to impress, following a previous scene where Ping and an inexperienced actor did well.

"There was an earlier scene before this, and you believe, it was where something changed in him or something was triggered in him," wrote Arlyn. "Ping stole the scene, and another one too, a non-actor by the way. He knew it, I think he felt it. He wanted to redeem himself in the next scene."

After the incident, Baron told Arlyn that he'd understand if his character was removed from the story. Arlyn said that she had already been thinking of killing off his character, and knew how she was going to go about it.

The director ended with a message for Baron:

"When you apologize, you do not make other excuses. We understand you... you are just being you. It's all about you.

"Ownership is a virtue and you knew, I believe, it was even in your calculation that we all end up in this controversy. You wanted this... again – the attention, the headlines.

"There are people who respect you and gave you all the openness to be what you said you really are... there are shades of that person, especially when you are not drunk.

"You need to be treated for alcoholism and aren't you taking too much of those anti-depressant pills?"

A few minutes later, Arlyn sent out another post, this time saying that she was no longer mad about what Baron did, just sad.

"I always move on and I always forgive, whether the apology is sincere or not. However, there's a clear decision on my part – I am done with this person," she wrote.

"May you find your peace and may you be the kind of son that you have always wanted to be. You know that you found a friend. You lost one," Arlyn said to Baron.

She also mentioned a journalist that Baron allegedly disrespected: "Doon sa binastos mong kapwa ko mamamahayag, ikaw na mag-apologize.

MANILA, Philippines – Claudine Barretto and estranged husband Raymart Santiago are at odds again. Claudine is accusing Raymart of not defending their son Santino, who was allegedly hurt by his relative [Raymart's nephew], during one of the Santiago gatherings. 

On Tuesday, November 29, Claudine posted a screengrab of Raymart’s interview with Pep about the incident on Instagram. In the caption, Claudine wrote: “Away bata talaga Raymart! Ten years old si Santino at yung pamangkin mo 27 years old. Bata ba yun??? Duwag ka! Minsan lang kahit minsan magsabi ka naman ng totoo. Your kids called you a liar after this interview. In an interview with Pep, Raymart described Claudine’s accusations as “mababaw” (very shallow) and that she was making an issue of something which could be settled among themselves. Raymart said that he asked his son to share his side of the story.

“According to Santino… nagpakuwento din ako, naglalaro daw sila ng bola na papel, nagbabatuhan sila. (I asked him to tell the story, they were playing with a paper ball and hit each other.)

“Tapos nagbabatu-batuhan, tumama sa ulo, nagkapikunan.” (After that they were hitting each other, it hit the head, there was a conflict.)

Raymart then added: “Kumuha daw ng kutsilyo [si Santino], daw, ayun yung sinabi naman nung side ng pamilya ko. (He [Santino] went to get a knife, according to what my family said.)

“So, pinigilan na huwag mambato kasi kutsilyo na yun, e. Ayun lang,” he said.

(So, they just stopped him from throwing the knife. That's all.)

Raymart then said he was surprised with Claudine’s statements over what he called “away-bata” (kids fighting). He said that his nephew simply stopped Santino from hurting anyone because he was throwing things around and could not understand why Claudine is upset with him.

“Ngayon, pinalaki niya. (Now she made the issue bigger.)

“Pati sa akin galit dahil hindi ko daw kinakampihan ang anak ko. (Now she's also angry because I supposedly did not side with my son over what happened.)

“Sabi ko, ‘Anak ko ‘yan, bakit hindi ko kakampihan? 'Di ba, away-bata ‘yan, ayusin na lang.’” (I said 'he's my son, why would I not side with him? Isn't this a kids' fight? This can be fixed.)

Raymart said he and Claudine were not at the event that time, which the actress also told Pep in a separate interview.

In an interview with Pep, Claudine said that she has spoken with the mom of and person who hurt Santino. She said there were raised voices, but she stood her ground. 

She also expressed her dismay over her estranged husband, saying he could not protect their children. She said she worked hard for her kids to have a relationship with Raymart and that she never took them away from his family.

MANILA, Philippines – Veteran actress Lolita Rodriguez, who starred in movies such as Ina, Kapatid, Anak, Cofradia, and Ang Anak ni Brocka, died on Monday, November 28, in California. She was 81 years old.

According to a report from Pep, Lolita died after suffering a stroke two months ago. 

Eduardo Perez Blanco, a relative of the actress announced her death on Facebook.

"Sad day. My grandaunt, iconic actress Miss Lolita Rodriguez, one of the greatest Philippine movie artists of all time, passed away last night. Let us pray for her," he said.

LOS ANGELES, USA – US actress Evan Rachel Wood, who plays one of the leading characters in the new hit TV series Westworld, has spoken out about being raped twice in an open letter she posted on Twitter.

The 29-year-old said she had revealed the attacks in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine and decided to also share her story on social media as she did not want to "stay silent any longer."

The actress said she had been raped by a "significant other" and then by the owner of a bar.

"The first time I was unsure that if it was done by a partner it was still in fact rape, until too late," Wood wrote. "Also who would believe me.

"And the second time, I thought it was my fault and that I should have fought back more, but I was scared."

She said the attacks took place "many, many years ago" and that she had come to understand that she was not at fault.

The star added in her Twitter posting as well as the Rolling Stone interview that she believes the assaults were "one of the many factors" that played a part in an attempt to commit suicide at age 22.

The actress, who is bisexual, said she had hesitated about coming forward in the past for fear of being accused of seeking attention or being told "it wasn't a big deal or that's not really rape."

"I don't believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer. I certainly can't," she wrote.

"Not given the state our world is in with its blatant bigotry and sexism."

Wood said although she was happy in her life, she was "still not ok."

'You are not alone' 

"I think it's important for people to know that, for survivors to own that, and that the pressure to just get over it already, should be lifted," said the star, who was briefly married to actor Jamie Bell and had a son with him in 2013.

The actress also defended her past controversial relationship with the rock star Marilyn Manson in the Rolling Stone interview, saying she was "craving danger and excitement" when she met him at age 18 in Los Angeles. He was 36 at the time and married to burlesque star Dita Von Teese.

"I met somebody that promised freedom and expression and no judgments," she told the magazine.

Wood plays Dolores, an android in the sci-fi series Westworld based on the 1973 movie of the same name about a Western theme park of the future.

In the first episode, her character is shown being dragged off to be raped.

The actress posted a message on Twitter on Tuesday, several hours after sharing her letter, saying that she would be taking a break from social media.

"Thank you for all your support and courageous stories. You are not alone. xo," she tweeted.

MANILA, Philippines – After winning second runner-up in the Philippine Popular Music Festival (PhilPop) 2016, Paolo and Miguel Guico are set to launch their first-ever EP.

The twins, formerly known as The Benjamins, composed a song titled "Tinatangi," which was performed by Bayang Barrios and Cooky Chua for the competition.
