LOS ANGELES, USA – Lil Twist, the rapper best known as the sidekick of Justin Bieber, was sentenced to a year in prison Wednesday, November 30 after he pleaded guilty to assault.

The 23-year-old rapper acknowledged that he beat up fellow artist and former child star Chris Massey two years ago at the Los Angeles apartment of the victim's brother, Kyle Massey.

Chris Massey had asked Lil Twist to leave a party and he returned half an hour later with four others as Lil Twist subdued him, kicked him and pummeled him with brass knuckles, prosecutors said.

Lil Twist, whose real name is Christopher Moore, pleaded guilty in court to five counts including assault and robbery.

He was given one year in prison, avoiding a longer term if he went to trial, the Los Angeles district attorney's office said.

Lil Twist had until recently been a constant presence around Bieber, frequently appearing at parties with the onetime teenage star who became notorious for his legal run-ins.

In 2013, Lil Twist was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence while driving the Canadian singer's Ferrari.

While best known on the celebrity circuit, Lil Twist is signed to rapper Lil Wayne's label Young Money. Lil Twist's songs include "Twerk," which features both Bieber and Miley Cyrus. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – Baron Geisler has apologized to actor Ping Medina and those who were hurt over his actions on the set of the movie Bubog. In a lengthy Facebook post shared Wednesday, November 30, he also revealed new details about the events leading up to his urinating on Ping on-set while shooting a scene. He further detailed his issues with director Arlyn dela Cruz. (READ: Ping Medina calls out Baron Geisler for behavior on set)

Here's the post in full:

{source} <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fbaron.geisler.39%2Fposts%2F10209344668227185&width=500" width="500" height="689" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>{/source}

On Facebook, Baron said that he was sorry for what happened while also expressing his disappointment with Arlyn. He acknowledged that he was interested in the role he was offered, but had heard criticism about her in the past. Later, he became frustrated by what he described as constant changes to his role. He begged off from the project, but after speaking with the director, agreed to stay on and work as needed. Baron, who has struggled with problems with alcohol in the past, said that would "work sober." (READ: 'So low': Baron Geisler defends himself vs Ping Medina, movie director)

During some downtime on location, he recalled bumping into Ping, whom he greeted, though Baron noted in his post that Ping did not seem to be in a good mood.

(We talked until about 4 am – if he was irritable about me, I wish he didn't let the conversation linger until that time. I wasn't really sleepy, I thought to get some Pale so I could sleep. Yes, I did borrow P200, because Niña said we didn't have cash and of course, the banks are closed. I handed Ping a can, after I had one, I felt sleepy so I went into the room.)

He noted that his call time was again changed the next day to 3:30 pm. He related that they moved to a second location, and said that he did have a few more drinks. "Ulit, ang apat na Pale ay hindi tatalab sa isang katulad ko para sabihin 'Lasing ako.'" he wrote. (Again, 4 Pales don't hit someone like me enough to say, 'I'm drunk.')

At this point, Baron gives more details about the urinating incident.

(The next scene was explained to us by Direk, we rehearsed. I felt it was a bit incomplete, so I approached Ping to tell him I was going to do something and not to get angry over it. I did the same to Direk, but she was in a rush for us to finish so she did not ask me what I was going to do. She said, 'Ok, just do it, don't tell me anymore,' – as a director, you sould still know what's going to happen in order to avoid these kinds of situations.)

He said he didn't expect Ping's reaction, but apologized and didn't try to fight back. In the final part of his post, Baron said that he was waiting for the day everything between them would calm down.

" Kung ano man ang mga sinabe mo sa media okay lang, at kung ano pa man ang sasabihin mo okay lang din. Alam ko na maayos din ang lahat, aantayin ko nalang yung araw na magiging maayos din ang lahat sa atin," he said.

(Even so, I know that I did do wrong, so I apologized to Ping. Whatever you said to the media, that's okay, and whatever you will say, that's okay, too. I know that this will all be fixed, I'll wait for the day everything between us will be okay.)

Issues with film director

Aside from the changing call times and changes to the role, Baron talked about his other issues with the director and criticized how she dealt with the situation.

He reacted to what Arlyn said in a previous post about him allegedly using the incident for buzz, given that he reportedly has a project with Kiko Matos about their brawl and fight earlier this year, and an upcoming book.

"Bakit naman kita gagamitin para sa pelikula ko na lalabas at sa libro ko? Wala silang kinalaman dito," he said.

(Why would you use you for a movie or my book? They have nothing to do with this.)

(As a director and as a good reporter, I wish you hadn't posted what you did. Who barked first? Wasn't it you? You know yourself that you did wrong and was lacking. This can't all be pinned on me. You made the situation heat up, you used events so this would be talked about. I know, in some way, you were happy. As a head or leader of the production, you didn't even let this cool down, you intensified it.)

In an earlier Facebook post, Arlyn had clarified their side of the incident, saying that no one permitted Baron to urinate on a co-star, and aired her own thoughts on why he acted that way.

"What he did was his own twisted interpretation of the character assigned to him, which I explained to him and even demonstrated over and over, off the set and on the set – to prep him for that important scene," she wrote.

"He was concerned and restless, asking everyone, and even to Ping's face if Ping was bida [the star]. That's where the inappropriate and surprise act came from. He wanted to eclipse the portrayal of Ping with the character assigned to him. It did not work, an insecurity that manifested in that one act of betrayal of trust and respect that I gave him," she wrote.

She ended with a public appeal to Baron's relatives to get him help: "He needs help. Hindi niya kami tunay na nasaktan kung inaakala niya.

"Ang sarili niya ang winawasak niya – paulit-ulit," she wrote.

(He needs help. He isn't really hurting us, he's the one he's destroying, again and again.)

Meanwhile, Ping told ABS-CBN that he has no plans to file a complaint against Baron, but said that the Actors Guild of the Philippines and Film Development Council of the Philippines have contacted him over the incident.– Rappler.com

PARIS, France – It took a fair bit of cheek – and not a little phlegm on a freezing Paris night – for the brash US lingerie brand Victoria's Secret to hold its first-ever fashion show in the city that invented sexy underwear.

And true to the brand's brazen style, the spectacle featured a (slightly wounded) megastar, history-struck A-lister models – and a jewel-encrusted multi-million-dollar "fantasy" bra.

Lady Gaga – the star draw for the annual extragavanza famous for bringing kitschy Las Vegas glamour to the catwalk – picked up a "couple of bruises from (the) dance rehearsal", she told her 64 million Twitter followers.

Here's a look at Gigi Hadid's look, which she debuted as Lady Gaga performed:

ANGEL. Gigi Hadid presents a creation during the 2016 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show at the Grand Palais in Paris on November 30, 2016. AFP photo/Martin Bureau

The show's mostly American models said they felt "goose bumps" – and not just because of the sub-freezing temperatures.

They were also stepping out under the hallowed dome of the Grand Palais, the Art Deco temple where the luxury French label Chanel holds its couture shows.

Karl Lagerfeld, the forthright Chanel designer, was unfortunately not on hand to give his view of the proceedings.

Three of his favorite models – Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner from the Kardashian dynasty – were among the brand's "angels", so called because the models wear wings on the runway.

She closed the show modelling the emerald- and diamond-encrusted "Bright Night Fantasy Bra", which costs $3 million (2.83 million euros).

The 25-year-old Californian had earlier batted away allegations that she had bleached her skin for the show.

"Are you kidding me! Who in the world does that?" she wrote on Instagram.

"Lighting is everything... not to mention I'm way darker in the summer and much lighter towards the winter. My skin tone changes all the time just like everyone else," she added.

Former Swedish professional basketball player Elsa Hosk also made her debut to promote the brand's new sportwear range.

Although Victoria's Secret has nearly 1,000 shops in the US with $7.6 billion sales last year, it is almost unknown in France, where there is a long tradition of high quality lingerie.

Among French fashion figures who attended was Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing, a favorite of singers Rihanna and Beyonce.

And in marked contrasted to the usual Paris fashion shows, even if the models were not wearing much they all had smiles on their faces.

"It was very much an America-style fireworks show that shouldn't be taken too seriously," one not overly impressed guest called Ronan told AFP.

The star-studded show, which will be broadcast in 190 countries from December 5, is being seen as an attempt by the label to break into the lucrative European market.

The hype surrounding the event began months ago, with the brand launching the hashtag #trainlikeanangel on social media, showing the models working out to get in shape for the catwalk.

Victoria's Secret has regularly faced criticism for presenting women with an unrealistic body imagine, with models admitting that they are on special diets for weeks before the show.– Aurelie Mayembo, AFP/Rappler.com

'The Super Parental Guardians' review: Comedy against the backdrop of a harsh reality

'THE SUPER PARENTAL GUARDIANS.' Vice Ganda is Arci in a scene from the movie. Screengrab from YouTube/Star Cinema

Comedy is a powerful thing.

In an age of very harsh realities, we are united in our quest for levity. The most powerful comedies are those that are not only content in uniting humanity in laughter, but in ideology or action. It isn’t enough that the comedy find humor in the absurdities of real life. It needs to do so with a staunch stand.

Diving board for hilarity

Joyce Bernal’sThe Super Parental Guardians uses the ills of contemporary society as its diving board, an opening for hilarity.

Set in a world that isn’t as far-fetched as it looks, the film sees people murdered in the streets, all of them bearing hastily prepared cardboard signs that declare them as addicts – of earbuds, balut, and all other absurd things. The film knows the current situation and utilizes that patent absurdity to launch a story about surrogate parents who become involved in a world of masked murderers operating by way of impunity.

Screengrab from YouTube/Star Cinema

Its characters all make use of the familiar tropes. Vice Ganda plays the flamboyant assistant to a general’s wife. Coco Martin is a prominent member of an alley gang that is under threat of being wiped out by the anti-criminality campaign. The two mismatched partners are united when Martin’s sister (Matet de Leon) is mysteriously murdered, leaving her two sons (Awra Briguela & Onyok Pineda) without guardians.

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9kyugmVmqiM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

The plot is unsurprisingly threadbare, which leaves plenty of room for Vice Ganda to perform the rowdy routines the star is famous for. The film is most vibrant when it temporarily retreats from telling a story to concentrate on nonsensical skits and sketches. It is however worth noting that the screenplay (the work of Danno Kristoper Mariquit of Sisterakas (2012) and The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin (2014) fame; and Alpha Habon of Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Din (2013), Buy Now, Die Later (2015), and Van Damme Stallone (2016)) is not one without imagination.

Dangerous nonsense

Screengrab from YouTube/Star Cinema

The story actually offers opportunities for the film to graduate beyond the inanity that could have been housed in one of Vice Ganda’s daily shows, except that all such opportunities are squandered for guilt-free and convenient hilarity. The film fails to be the powerful thing it could and should have been. It is all empty nonsense, and that is quite a dangerous thing.

But still, the film isn’t as harmless as it looks. In its earnest effort to be both current and entertaining, it desensitizes the public to the horrors of whatever is happening in society. The problem here is that the film is not interested in being satirical, or being a parody, or being relevant. It is only interested in being mindlessly entertaining, carelessly utilizing whatever is familiar to its market for gags and giggles.

Screengrab from YouTube/Star Cinema

The result is a piece of entertainment that has an effect of normalizing what should never be seen or perceived as normal. The Super Parental Guardians has a bigger responsibility not just to make its audience roll with laughter but also to attribute its comedy to something bigger than plain escapism most especially since it recruits a grim setting that is too close to home for comfort. (READ: Out of MMFF 2016, Vice Ganda and Coco Martin see bright side of exclusion)

Serious comedy

Screengrab from YouTube/Star Cinema

Am I taking The Super Parental Guardians too seriously when it is so obviously made not to be dissected to pieces but just to be enjoyed? Yes, and you should too.

Comedy really is a powerful thing. It is so powerful, it should be taken seriously.

At a time like this, all we have is our ability to laugh at the gravest of situations to unite us as a people. There is nothing wrong with that. It has moved this nation to withstand the biggest of calamities and the most vicious of leaders. Comedy however should also unite us in sensitivity.

Screengrab from YouTube/Star Cinema

Surely, there is something inherently wrong when both parents and their kids are boisterously laughing at the image of a dying mother, a knife in her back, and a placard tied 'round her neck, when it so closely resembles bleak realities that are happening in nearby neighborhoods. Have we as a people become that desensitized to cruelty?– Rappler.com

The 24-year-old edged out fellow pop singer Taylor Swift, who has just under 94 million followers and was 2015's top star on Facebook-owned Instagram.

Following them were two more singers – Ariana Grande and Beyonce – and then reality television star Kim Kardashian.

The most followed man – at number six among celebrities – was Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gomez dominated Instagram on a topsy-turvy year for the star who cut short a tour as she fought depression brought on by her struggle with lupus.

She re-emerged in November for the American Music Awards, where she urged fans to be true to their inner feelings and said: "I don't want to see your bodies on Instagram."

Gomez also had a high-profile Instagram feud in 2016 with her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber who quit the platform amid heated exchanges.

The Canadian singer recently said on stage in London: "Hell is Instagram."

Gomez was behind eight of the 10 most liked celebrity photos and seven of the top 10 celebrity videos for the year.

In a finding sure to delight advertisers who target social media, Gomez's most liked photo on Instagram was a promotion for Coca-Cola.

MANILA, Philippines – Some parts of Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos' mixed martial arts (MMA) showdown in June and the events leading up to it were staged, according to production company Beastmode. ([IN PHOTOS] Baron Geisler vs Kiko Matos MMA fight: It's a draw)

"Yes, certain actions were planned and enacted. Yes, there is a bigger picture: the release of a documentary film. We have meticulously planned the preparation, execution, and reveal of every stage of this project. However, new incidents have forced our hand," they wrote on Facebook.

Beastmode made the reveal after Bubog director Arlyn dela Cruz spoke about it, saying in a Facebook post that Baron had used his recent controversy on her movie set to promote Beastmode's documentary.

Baron had allegedly urinated on his co-star Ping Medina while shooting a scene for Bubog, but had not cleared his actions with Ping or Arlyn beforehand.

However, Beastmode said that Baron's actions on the set were not involved in their documentary: "Let it be clear that Project Beastmode had nothing to do with the recent incident between Baron Geisler and Ping Medina. We were all caught unaware. We hope all parties involved reach an amicable resolution."

Baron and Kiko's MMA fight on the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) stage in June was set to settle a score between the two following an altercation at a bar.

Before the fight, incidents like a sudden kiss from Baron to Kiko, and Kiko spraying "urine" – later clarified to be beer– on Baron built tension between the two. ([WATCH] Baron Geisler vs Kiko Matos: Pee-spraying, taunts, tension at fight weigh-in)

In the unfinished trailer for Beastmode's documentary, which Beastmode released in light of recent events, clips of the main fight, along with the pre-fight incidents and the two actors training for the fight were shown.

Their fight ended in a draw, with both actors saying afterwards that they are now in good terms. (WATCH: What Kiko Matos told Baron Geisler right after their MMA fight)

"The trailer is unfinished, but we feel that we have to clarify the boundaries and intention of our project. As the legendary street philosopher and songstress Nina Simone once crooned, 'Please don't let us be misunderstood,'" wrote Beastmode.

The documentary will be shown on December 15 at the University of the Philippines' Cine Adarna. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – Baron Geisler's manager Arnold Vegafria has released a statement following a complaint about his client from actor Ping Medina to the Professional Artist Management, Inc (PAMI).

According to a tweet from ABS-CBN, PAMI president June Torrejon-Rufino said that the group had received a complaint from Ping regarding an incident where Baron peed on him while shooting a scene for a movie.

"We are calling for an emergency meeting to act on the complaint," said June.

Arnold is the president of ALV Talent Circuit, which manages Baron, and is also a member of PAMI.

In a Facebook message to Rappler through Baron's public relations manager Tinnie Esguerra, Arnold acknowledged the complaint against his client and said that he would abstain from any decision-making vote when PAMI discusses the issue over the weekend.

Below is his statement in full:

"On behalf of the other members of the PAMI, I gladly acknowledge Ping Medina’s formal complaint against my talent, Baron Geisler.

"While we acknowledge Baron’s behavioral lapses, we do not fully agree with the popular decision that he is the only one who is at fault regarding the controversial incident.

"We will be discussing this issue over the weekend, and I can assure everyone that we will abide by the majority decision.

"Being Baron’s manager, I will abstain from the voting to ensure fairness and impartiality, and will welcome any sanctions that the PAMI will formally lodge against him."

Ping's complaint comes in light of his accusations that Baron urinated on him without permission while filming a scene for the film Bubog, by Arlyn dela Cruz.

Both Arlyn and Ping have spoken out about the issue on social media.

Baron himself has spoken on social media, maintaining that he did ask permission from Arlyn and Ping to do something outside of the script, but did not specify that he would urinate on Ping.

Both Ping and Baron's characters for Bubog have now been recast– Rappler.com

'Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers' Review: What's become of Enteng?

'ENTENG 10.' 'Enteng Kabisote 10' stars Vic Sotto. Screengrab from YouTube/Octo Arts Films International

Tony Reyes and Marlon Rivera’s Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers opens with a scene that foreshadows the overall feel of this latest installment to the stubborn franchise.

In a dark, dreary and nondescript room that has been peppered by the lousiest of special effects, two teenagers are frazzled about a video game they are developing. In an effort to save the opening sequence from completely falling apart, Joey de Leon, dressed as Panday, starts mouthing the same old puns and other gender insensitive jokes that he has been spouting for decades now.

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Pcs7YyMj8xU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

His little skit obviously didn’t save the opening from being an unintelligible mess, so the movie just plods along, clumsily introducing the villains in another lackluster story about how Vic Sotto, as the untiring Enteng Kabisote, will save the day with his tired antics and lousy lessons.

What has happened to Enteng?

Screengrab from YouTube/Octo Arts Films International

So what exactly has happened to Enteng Kabisote?

He was never a superhero. In fact, he was a fascinating nobody, the most ordinary of men who had both the fortune and misfortune of marrying Faye, the daughter of a domineering fairy queen from another dimension. Okay Ka, Fairy Ko!, the long-running sitcom, was reflective of a familiar family set-up, where the macho husband becomes emasculated by the women around him. Sotto was then a self-deprecating comedian whose wit went beyond silly faces and standard slapstick.

Something happened along the way.

Enteng Kabisote transformed from a funny father figure into a soulless Christmas commodity. Little by little, the character lost its identity to profit-motivated escapism. He became the recurring copycat of the latest Hollywood fad, yearly redesigning himself to suit the very basic tastes of children just so he can sell them and their parents movie tickets. Enteng, the character, has devolved into the worst kind of merchandise, one that relied solely on the benefits of an annual film festival to veil its lack of value.

Out of the festival, and into the fire

Screengrab from YouTube/Octo Arts Films International

Alas, Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers doesn’t have the Metro Manila Film Festival to protect it now.

Also playing this week:

Outside the festival’s fanfare, the film is just like any other, adjudged not for its ability to bring families together but for its craftsmanship and content. Sadly, the film is a muddled mess of derivative ideas. Enteng Kabisote, now a grandfather who co-owns a robotics company, is tasked to bring together the Abangers, former residents of the fairy realm with various powers, to defeat Doctor Kwak Kwak (Epy Quizon) and his gaming app that he and his cohorts designed to wreak havoc everywhere.

It doesn’t make sense because the filmmakers never thought that the film needed to make sense. It just needed to feel like a string of nonsensical moments where Sotto and his cast of character actors can goof around for giggles.

However, the comedy itself that the film relies heavily on is oftentimes ineffective, with a lot of the punchlines falling flat. The attempt to infuse the gag show with bits of familial drama similarly fails, and the inclusion of Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards’ illogically extended romantic saga into the narrative arc feels more like an act of desperation than a sliver of creative brilliance.

Put the franchise to rest

Screengrab from YouTube/Octo Arts Films International

The movie never picks up. It doesn’t get remotely exciting. Everything remains inane and pointless. Simply put, Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers is old, more of the same – and the franchise deserves to be put to rest.– Rappler.com

BARON VS KIKO. The team behind the 'Beastmode' documentary reveals that the events surrounding the URCC fight between Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos were staged. Photos by Alecs Ongcal/Rappler

MANILA, Philippines – Months after the highly publicized Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) fight, those behind the controversy involving Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos have spoken up: the events surrounding that fight were staged.

Baron and Kiko's fight started with an altercation at a bar in May and ended with them settling their differences in a URCC cage in June.

Since then, it's been revealed that the fight was for a documentary titled Beastmode, and that their actions were performances.

In an interview through Facebook chat on Friday, December 2, filmmaker Manuel Mesina III said that Beastmode was originally for a performance festival called Karnabal. The festival ran from June 1 to 12 this year.

On whether Baron and Kiko's fight in the URCC cage was staged, Manuel clarified: "Nope, it was not staged. Totoo na nagtrain sila para sa laban. Pero yung line na 'Are you not entertained?' direction sa kanila y'un kung sino ang mananalo."

(Nope, it was not staged. They really trained for the fight. But the line 'Are you not entertained?' was direction given to them [by the filmmakers], to whoever will win.)

Kiko and Baron's showdown ended in a unanimous draw, with Baron asking the audience afterwards, "Are you not entertained?" The line is likely a reference to the same line that Russell Crowe says in Gladiator. (READ: After fight, Baron Geisler, Kiko Matos make up: Okay na kami)

This same question was what they were trying to prove with the social experiment, said Manuel: "What we are trying to prove? We have been asking the question lagi (always): Are you not entertained?"

Manuel further explained that the URCC wasn't in their original plan. The group invited the two to settle their differences in the cage and the production decided to roll with it.

"Nag-open invitation sila [URCC], kinuha ng dalawa. We adjusted the plan along with it. Basta madocument, 'yun ang importante," said Manuel.

(The [URCC] gave an open invitation and the two accepted it. We adjusted the plan along with it. As long as it was documented, that was what was important.)

In a phone call with Rappler, URCC President Alvin Aguilar he said that he initially did not know that Baron and Kiko's disagreement wasn't real, but assured that their training and what went down in the cage wasn't scripted.

"When I saw these guys back and forth on TV, somebody suggested let's have them fight in the URCC. I said yeah, fine, let's do it, diba? There was one person who said the day before [the fight], 'If those guys do a fake fight,' I said no way, if you fight in the URCC, you fight for real," Alvin told Rappler.

The stunts that both actors pulled every time they met, though, like Kiko spraying "pee" at Baron during the weigh-in, was part of the act.

"Staged 'yun," said Manuel on the stunts. "May nagdodocument nun at may gagawin talaga sila every time magkikita."

(That was staged. Someone was documenting that and they were really supposed to do something every time they saw each other.)

When asked to comment on the revelation that their disagreement was staged, Baron said in a text message to Rappler:

"This issue is not about me, not about Kiko or anyone. The real issue is something bigger than all these, and is something that we hope people will understand when they watch the movie.

"We would like to emphasize that, whether we admit it or not, we are all unwitting players in this social dynamic, and we hope that, as soon as we 'get' the message, we will all eventually learn to be more vigilant in looking beyond our biases and passing judgment on people or what we may perceive to be controversial issues."

Current controversy

It was first revealed in the November issue of Rogue that the Baron-Kiko altercation was a social experiment, and that a documentary about it was set to be released.

But the issue made headlines recently, due to Bubog director Arlyn dela Cruz accusing Baron of using her film to promote the documentary. ([READ] 'So low': Baron Geisler defends himself vs Ping Medina, movie director)

Former Bubog star Ping Medina accused Baron of urinating on him while they were shooting a scene for Bubog. Arlyn has since announced that both of their characters will now be played by different actors. (READ: Baron Geisler's manager Arnold Vegafria on Ping Medina PAMI complaint)

Manuel said that Baron's actions on the Bubog set had nothing to do with Beastmode and that they were really planning on releasing its trailer at around this time. He added that the Beastmode team had clarified this already with Ping and Arlyn.

Beastmode is set to be screened at December 15 at the University of the Philippines Cine Adarna.

"Actually nung pumutok yung issue, we are about to release the trailer. Kaso out of respect, hindi namin nilabas. Baka sabihin ng mga tao sinasakyan namin yung issue. 'Tsaka ang init ng issue, wala sa plano yun. Talagang kahit kami caught off guard."

(Actually, when the issue blew up, we were about to release the trailer. But out of respect, we didn't release it. They might say that we rode on the issue. And the issue is so hot right now, that wasn't in the plan. We were really caught off guard.)

Manuel said that the Beastmode team has not spoken to Baron since the incident.– Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – Actors Baron Geisler and Ping Medina will no longer be in Arlyn dela Cruz's Bubog.

Conflicts on the set have made headlines in the past days. Ping accused Baron of urinating on him while they were filming a scene together. Later, Ping injured himself after hitting the metal walls of their set in reaction. ([READ] 'So low': Baron Geisler defends himself vs Ping Medina, movie director)

Baron's role was initially written out of the script after the incident, but in a Facebook post dated December 1, Arlyn said that she had instead decided to change her actors.

"The decision is final, focused, and liberating. I will reshoot the scene as intended and with the original actors I had in mind. The film will be released internationally and locally without Ping and Baron," she wrote.

Her decision had been discussed with Ping, she said, and they both agreed that it was for the best.

Arlyn explained, "Ping was a replacement and Baron was offered another role in the film, not the one in the scene with Ping." She couldn't work with the original actors because of conflicts in schedule.

"Both are now free to give life to the roles originally offered to them," said Arlyn, adding, "Ping knew he was a replacement, Baron too knew because he said he is ready with 'any role.'"

On casting Baron for the role, Arlyn said: "I do not need to go head on with stress. It was a bad decision to cast Baron, but not a bad move to trust him that he will remain sober for the entire shoot.

"To trust is a choice, you can never regret trusting a person even if his name is Baron Geisler."

In the same Facebook post, Arlyn thanked Ping for his work, saying, "Years from now, maybe we will view that scene together with popcorn and drinks and look back on how this experience has made us stronger as individuals."

To Baron, she said in the post: "You cannot use this project anymore. You are forgiven. You need help and I hope you get it soon. The next 'stunt' you might do may not receive understanding and forgiveness."

In a previous Facebook post, she shared her thoughts that Baron might have pulled a stunt like this to promote his own projects.

{source}<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FArlyndelaCruz2ndaccount%2Fposts%2F1259903074094466&width=500" width="100%" height="230" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>{/source}

On his part, Ping defended Arlyn's decision to recast his role: "I will stand by direk Dela Cruz Arlyn until the very end. This is not her fault. She had no monitor as the small and cramped location did not make it possible. No one in their wildest imagination could've predicted this to happen.

"To end all misguided speculation and useless controversy, direk and I have decided to recast my role and reshoot all scenes to give me time to heal and rest. We are in the process of moving on."

'Moana' Review: Blissfully refreshing

Let’s face it, beloved Disney isn’t as innocent as it seems. Ever since the cartoon conglomerate struck gold with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (1937), it has unabashedly been reinforcing dated stereotypes. Its precious princesses, from golden-haired Aurora to slender-legged Ariel, are all representations of unrealistic concepts of what a beautiful woman should be. They loyal not to their nonexistent responsibilities over their constituents but mostly to their respective princes.

Hesitant princess

It is from this harsh but very real perspective that Ron Clements and John Musker’s Moana feels like a cold blast of fresh air.

{source}<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LKFuXETZUsI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

The titular protagonist (Auli’i Cravalho) is by all definitions of the word, a princess. She is the daughter of village chief and she is being groomed to rule her people and to solve her problems. She is unlike all other Disney princesses. She isn’t beholden to love. Heck, she isn’t even beholden to Maui (Dwayne Johnson), the self-worshipping demigod whom she recruits to help her fulfill her mission of delivering a magical jewel to its owner, a sleeping deity.

In fact, when Maui starts to tease her about her being a princess, she takes offense. She does have an animal sidekick, but unlike Ariel’s dutiful crab or Jasmine’s ferocious tiger, Moana’s dimwitted chicken Heihei is more a liability than an asset. Moana’s physical attributes, such as her naturally tan skin and her frame, are defiantly rooted in her origins.

Sure, like most of Disney’s other princesses, she also disobeys her father (Temueru Morrison) not to sail past the reef. However, her escape from the clutches of her stern parents isn’t out of teenage angst or romance or just the innate and sometimes inexplicable desire for freedom. It is out of self-fulfillment, out of a sincere notion that there is something direly lacking in her and her people’s way of living.

This is the reason why that one particular scene where she discovers that her people are actually voyagers makes narrative and emotional sense, despite being so conveniently expository. It is what the character needed to remain within the realm of reason, to not be just another stubborn princess off on another personal adventure to seek her self-centered happily-ever-after.

Ocean adventure

Moana’s adventure itself isn’t very novel.

As it turns out, the legend of mischievous Maui stealing a jewel from a goddess is true.

The village’s coconut harvests are being lost to rot. Its bays are no longer swarming with fish. It is now up to Moana, who was chosen by the sea to bear the mission to restore order to the world, to find Maui so that he can undo everything his irresponsible act has caused.

Much of the film is a collection of ingeniously conceived stunts.

There’s a pirate raid that has coconuts storming Moana and Maui’s little boat in a feat of silly but exhilarating action. There’s also a rather inventive musical number involving a self-obsessed glow-in-the-dark crustacean (Jermaine Clement) who becomes embroiled in a battle of wits with the movie’s heroic duo.

There aren’t that many surprises when it comes to the story. It is as straightforward as it should be. It doesn’t need to rely on needless innovation, since to muddle the formula might just lessen the impact of Disney’s effort to embrace progress and diversity – especially amidst a history so laden with stubbornness.

Gorgeous apology

In the end, Moana feels like a gorgeous and affecting apology for all of Disney’s sins and omissions. It is too little and too late, but the small gesture resounds especially in a time when intolerance and hate are threatening to strike like a cursed plague. – Rappler.com

PAMI asks their artists not to work with Baron Geisler, Arlyn dela Cruz

NO PROJECTS FROM PAMI. The Professional Actor Managers, Inc inhibit their artists from working with Baron Geisler and Arlyn dela Cruz. Photo by Alecs Ongcal/Rappler, screengrab from Facebook/ArlyndelaCruz2ndaccount

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Artist Managers, Inc (PAMI) has asked their artists not to work with actor Baron Geisler and director Arlyn dela Cruz. (READ: Ping Medina calls out Baron Geisler for behavior on set)

This, after the group received a complaint from Ping Medina, who accused Baron of urinating on him while they were shooting a scene for Arlyn's Bubog. ('So low': Baron Geisler defends himself vs Ping Medina, movie director)

PAMI discussed the issue in the presence of Baron's manager and PAMI member, Arnold Vegafria, who previously said that he was to abstain on any decision-making vote during the PAMI's meeting on the issue.

The same statement from Arnold also said that his management company, ALV Circuit, does not believe that Baron is entirely to blame for the Bubog issue.

In the statement, released on ABS-CBN, the group said: "PAMI unanimously arrived at the decision to inhibit all our artists from working with Geisler in any movie and television projects for an indefinite period.

"PAMI received Vegafria's assurance that he will refuse to accept any projects until such time that Geisler is mentally fit and psychologically stable to resume his work as an actor."

Arnold had also filed a complaint against Arlyn, according to PAMI: "Vegafria filed a formal complaint questioning the capacity of the movie's producer/director, Arlyn Dela Cruz, to exercise control and assume full responsibility on the set, that could have prevented this regrettable incident to happen."

Because of this, PAMI also asked their artists not to accept projects with Arlyn: "As managers, when we send our artists to the set, it is with our complete trust that the producer and director will protect and ensure the safety of our artists. Therefore, we have also unanimously agreed to inhibit all our artists from accepting any projects involving Arlyn Dela Cruz."

Arlyn spoke to the Inquirer about PAMI's decision, saying that they cannot sanction her, as she is not a member of the group.

"I understand where they are coming from, but I am not shaken. We all know the truth [about] what happened there on the set in that scene,” Arlyn, adding that she will continue to make movies and that she is confident that there are still artists who trust her.

Since the incident on the set of Bubog, both Baron and Ping are no longer working on the movie. Ping has been recast as he is recovering from an injury related to the incident, and a different actor will play Baron's character as well. – Rappler.com

'Westworld': 10 things to know about the show everyone's talking about

'WESTWORLD.' Everyone is watching Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy's new sci-fi Western series. Photo courtesy of HBO Asia

MANILA, Philippines – Everyone is talking about Westworld, the newest TV series that has the world in grips over its multi-layered, mysterious storyline.

The show has been compared to Game of Thrones in terms of its elaborate plot and the number of viewers it pulls in – not just by websites and critics, but by Warner Bros. Entertainment's CEO, Kevin Tsujihara.

So what's the deal with this show that's barely even finished its first season? Here's what you need to know:

1. The show is a sci-fi Western by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.

Westworld in the show is a theme park, where humans can immerse themselves in another world, filled with robots or "hosts."

Meanwhile, the hosts think their world is real – but some are slowly starting to realize otherwise.

2. Westworld stars James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins, and many more.

The show, based on the 1973 movie of the same name, also stars Thandie Newton and Jeffrey Wright, among others, and is executive produced by JJ Abrams, Bryan Burk, and Jerry Weintraub.

3. The actors were given the script to study bit by bit, so they didn't know the whole story.

Like the viewers, not everything is revealed to the actors all at once, so character deaths – and resurrections – are a surprise to them too.

4. The plot is so complicated that even they come up with their own fan theories about it.

Like the fans, the actors in the show like figuring out what Jonah and Lisa have in store for Westworld. At an interview with Southeast Asian reporters in Singapore, James shared that he and Evan talked about what they thought was going to happen as they received their scripts.

"Around episode 6 or so, I think we've read 7 at that point, she [Evan] goes, 'This is blah blah, this is a host...' and I went, 'You're wrong,'" James told the press. "I think that's what Jonah wants you to think, but if he knows you're gonna be there he's gonna rip the rug out from underneath you. She goes, 'I think I'm right.'"

5. James admitted that he gave up on the theories early, but Evan figured it all out mid-season.

Photo by John P Johnson/Courtesy of HBO Asia

"I had my own theories, [but] I did not break my brain trying to figure it out. Because I know Jonah and Lisa are so subversive in their storytelling that as soon as you think you know it, you do not. And I can't speak in absolutes," said James.

Later, he added, "Evan, on the other hand, was hell-bent on figuring it all out early." Her theories turned out to be right, said James.

6. The actors have to strictly stick to the script.

Photo by John P Johnson/Courtesy of HBO Asia

Because they're in the dark as to the rest of the plot, there isn't a lot of room for improvisation, but according to James, there isn't any need for it.

He said: "If you open up a host and you see how precisely engineered these beings are, that's Jonah Nolan with Westworld the show. Every line of dialogue, everything, from props sitting on the table, to the color of the background player's hat, everything is by design."

7. Because he plays a host, James has had to act naked in front of the Westworld scientists, including Anthony.

When asked what that experience was like, James assured reporters, "I was more excited to act opposite sir Anthony."

But he also joked later on: "I just was like, trying to hold his gaze. 'Look me in the eye!'"

8. Everyone in the main cast of Westworld can sing.

Aside from James, Evan, Thandie, Jeffrey, and Ed Harris can also sing. "We tease Jonah [Nolan], we say we're going to turn season 2 into a musical, and he's like, 'No, that's not happening!'" shared James.

9. Season 2 for the show, which airs on HBO, has been confirmed.

Westworld's second season is set to air in late 2017 or early 2018.

10. A lot of things can be revealed about a person when you enter Westworld, where anything can happen and you can be anyone.

One of the appeals of Westworld the theme park is that you can lose yourself in a completely different world. James says that if he visited Westworld, he'd go on a bounty hunt, but he'd also take his friends there and observe how they would behave differently.

The final episode of Westworld season 1 is set to air on Monday, December 5 at 10 am in the US.

MANILA, Philippines – A new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has been released on Saturday, December 3 and this time, the focus is on Baby Groot.

In the first film, Groot (Vin Diesel) sacrificed himself to save mankind and was shown as a miniature in the ending. (WATCH: First 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' trailer released)

Guardians of the Galaxy follows Peter Quill (Star Lord), teaming up with a group of unusual heroes to save the universe.

In the new trailer, Rocket patiently explained to Baby Groot not to press the button of an atomic bomb that would kill everyone. When Rocket asked Baby Groot to repeat his instructions, he then said; "I am Groot," pointing to the button that would activate the bomb, much to Rocket's frustration.

Later on while Rocket and Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) argue, Baby Groot grabs the bomb shouting "I am Groot."
