Paolo walked the Tokyo International Film Festival red carpet as the famous Hollywood actress and humanitarian.

He posted two photos of himself on Instagram, the first one of his reflection in a mirror, calling on Japanese fans of Eat Bulaga to support him.

Paolo stars in June Robles Lana's film Die Beautiful, which is competing in the Tokyo International Film Festival, scheduled to run from October 25 to November 3.

According to the movie's synopsis published on the Tokyo Film Festival website, Die Beautiful is the story of Trisha, a transgender woman who competes in beauty contests. As part of her request before her death, Trisha's wish was to remain beautiful.

SYDNEY, Australia – Sole surviving Bee Gee Barry Gibb is keen to make music with US pop star Justin Timberlake as he pursues a solo career after the death of his brothers.

Gibb, who joined Coldplay on stage at England's Glastonbury Festival this year, has recently released a solo album and said he wanted to work with creative people.

"I'd love to work with Justin Timberlake. That's always been a thing in my head because I think we would click," he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Wednesday, October 26.

"You gravitate towards people that are creative and that you hope that something good comes from it."

Despite the Bee Gees being one of the world's best-selling groups, Gibb revealed he and his brothers, Robin and Maurice, all wanted to be solo performers.

"Ultimately, we all wanted to be solo stars. That's what groups are. Every member of the group wants individual attention," he said.

"I don't balk at that, I'm simply embracing the opportunity to write songs I love and not doing everything by what everyone in the group thinks, you know? So it's a new kind of freedom.

"I miss them very much but it's a musical new freedom for me."

Although British, Gibb and his brothers grew up in Australia, where the band was formed and they performed as the Bee Gees for the first time.

Maurice died in 2003 after suffering a cardiac arrest while Robin died in 2012 after a lengthy battle against cancer. A fourth brother, Andy, died from cocaine addiction in 1988.

Gibb, one of the most successful songwriters ever, admitted it had been hard to get back recording again.

"For a long time, I didn't want to. For at least six months after Rob passed, that was all of my brothers, Andy at 30, Maurice at 53 and Rob at 63.

"It was an exhausting time, not just for me, but for mum and Lesley, my older sister, who still lives in Australia. So, yeah, I didn't want to for a long time. And then my wife told me to get off my backside." – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – The Gilmore Girls are back!

Rory, Lorelai and the quirky cast of characters at Stars Hollow are back in the first-ever trailer for Netflix's Gilmore Girls miniseries.

The trailer shows Lorelai struggling with a standstill in her relationship with Luke, Rory trying to work on her career in journalism, and Emily's life after the death of her husband Richard.

In between clips of old favorites like Dean, Sookie, and Lane, fans also get a taste of Rory and Lorelai's famous endearing banter.

"There's a debate going on whether or not to take the phone booth out," Lorelai tells Rory as they take a "town tour."

"Where would Superman change when he comes to save our town from Ben Affleck?" replies Rory, to which Lorelai says, "I made the same excellent point."

Netflix's Gilmore Girls miniseries is titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and features 4 90-minute shows each spanning one season. It's set to launch on November 25.– Rappler.com

In the latest episode of "Carpool Karaoke," Lady Gaga sang a few of her hits with him and some of her classics too.

Aside from her latest "Perfect Illusion," Gaga also busted out a few dance moves for "Bad Romance" and "Edge of Glory."

We even get some insight into her writing process: "When you're in the studio, do you write roma-ro-ma-ma?" asked James. After Gaga answered yes, James asked her if the she works with responds to her lyrics with a look.

"Well, they don't get to do that 'cos I'm the boss," replied Gaga with a laugh.

Later, Lady Gaga even took a "terrifying" turn at the wheel, helped James warm up his voice, and James tried on a few of the outrageous outfits she's worn in the past.

MANILA, Philippines – Here's good news for the '90s kids: Canadian boy band The Moffatts will be coming to Manila next year!

According to a release, the  Moffatts – brothers Scott, Clint, and Bob, will in the country for the concert, part of their The Moffatts Farewell Tour, scheduled on February 18, 2017 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Moffatts are known for their hit songs such as “Miss You Like Crazy,” “If Life Is So Short,” and "I'll Be There."

The boys of A1 were miles away from home when they took the stage at Kia Theater on Sunday night, October 23 during a stop on their Asia leg of the “Here We Come…Back!" tour. But they looked right at home onstage, performing with admirable energy for their Filipino fans.

A1 are a British-Norwegian pop group, and they were originally 4 members. Now they are 3, sans Paul Marazzi. Mark Read, who was front and center most of the evening, reminds me a bit of Robbie Williams who rose to fame with the boy band Take That. Rounding out the group with original members, Christian Ingebrigtsen on guitar and Ben Adams on keyboards. 

As the house lights went down, the crowd immediately erupted, after the intro video, the boys hit the ground running with a dance routine, and the mood was electric. Masterfully engaging the crowd, Mark had the almost sold out crowd on their feet with arms waving, on more than one occasion. They interacted with the audience often, so while it was a big show, it still felt intimate.

Each member took turns telling stories about themselves or how songs came about, really creating a feeling of connection with the band. The lighting was done well, nothing over the top, and with a high quality sound system, the folks were thoroughly engaged for the entire show. A well-planned setlist helped keep the concert flowing, including all their hits.

Ben was behind the keyboards for much of the concert, but performed in an animated fashion which provided entertainment for the crowd. Of course, he would come out from behind the keys for the dance portions along with Chris putting down his guitar. At some points, I wasn’t sure who was having more fun, the fans or the band themselves, which is always an indication of a successful performance. If the band isn’t having a good time, nobody is.

I’m far from a huge fan of boy bands from any time frame, honestly, and I only vaguely recognize the band name when given the assignment – but I appreciated this one. The show was skilfully executed, dynamic and throughly entertaining, well done indeed.

Some things will never die, metaphorically of course, and boy bands are one of those things, each generation has them. Whether you were fan of, arguably the most successful "boy bands" of all time, the Beatles, or maybe in the '70s you plastered your bedroom walls with the Monkees or the Jackson 5 posters, carrying on to the present day with 1D or the Vamps.

What impressed me here though was their vocal harmonies, and how they really operated as one unit. It was evident that this wasn’t their first rodeo. About halfway through the show, one of the avid fans in the front rows, gestured to me like they wanted to say something. As I leaned forward, they gleefully shouted, “I feel like I’m 19 again!" And that pretty much summed up things up for the night, the feeling of fondness was mutual throughout the venue. So if you get the chance to see one of your favorite boy bands, now on a comeback or on a reunion tour, don’t miss the chance to relive your youth, you won’t regret it.  – Rappler.com

MIAMI, USA – Hillary Clinton took time off from storming the campaign trail in the key state of Florida Tuesday, October 25 to take in a pre-birthday concert by pop icon Adele.

Campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said the award-winning British singer, who can't vote in the United States, is "100 percent for Hillary Clinton," adding: "I love her. She's amazing."

Merrill says Adele told the audience that while she is British, "what happens in America affects me too."

Clinton turns 69 on Wednesday.

Reporters were not allowed to join Clinton for her concert treat – so we don't yet know whether the White House hopeful belted out a few of her Adele favorites in the dark.

On a possibly wackier note, the former top US diplomat and ex-senator hours earlier appeared on a Spanish-language entertainment show, where she shared her favorite recipe for chocolate chip cookies.

Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange is very entertaining. However, the movie is far from strange or bizarre.

In the film, the titular egocentric neurosurgeon (Benedict Cumberbatch) gets into an accident that robs him of the use of his hands. He resorts to the mystic arts as his last hope, but this leads him elsewhere. 

It is actually just very typical, which is exactly what it needs to be to take its place alongside all the superhero movies that have come and gone throughout the years. 

 Marvelous at times

So Doctor Strange is not strange, but it is sometimes marvelous.



When Stephen Strange finally meets The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), the film immediately plunges into a mind-bending, trippy sequence that effectively uses Cumberbatch to psychedelic effect. 

That sequence is only topped by the chase scenes that has Strange, now armed with a sentient crimson Cloak of Levitation and destructive spells, jumping and flying amidst cityscapes that fold against each other. Derrickson, whose previous directorial gigs include horror-courtroom drama hybrid The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) and the lackluster sci-fi The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008), churns out coherent and kinetic action sequences with the assistance of first-rate special effects. From the perspective of pure visual pleasure, Doctor Strange certainly delivers. There is more than enough razzle-dazzle to deflect all the mumbo-jumbo that covers its overly familiar roots.

Redundant backstory

Apart from its truly beguiling cosmetic adornments, Doctor Strange bears very little difference from the many origin stories that have been released, remade, rebooted, and rehashed before it. In fact, Strange is a character so utterly like Iron Man or any other privileged spoiled brat who, through some sort of tragedy, discovers a superhuman trait. The effort to tell his backstory feels redundant.

 There are certainly some nice touches.

 In the very few scenes where she appears, Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), Strange’s love interest, conveys a semblance of realism that is rare in comic book characters. She is that non-superhuman character like May Parker of Spider-Man that is estranged from all the supernatural things happening, refreshingly grounded to her mundane life and livelihood. Sure, she gets shocked by all the weird things that are suddenly happening around her, but she does not linger more than she needs. She’s just there as a reminder of the ordinariness that Strange left behind.

 Sadly, the movie’s other characters are all uninterestingly written stereotypes, saved from obscurity by the skill of the talented thespians portraying them.

Strange is only an intriguing and charming hero because Cumberbatch plays him with measured intelligence. The Ancient One is graduated from being just another all-knowing cliché by Swinton’s delicious ambivalence. Kaecilius, the movie’s indubitably dull villain, has a curious scene where Mads Mikkelsen, the gifted Danish actor playing him, grants him a bid at humanity, no matter how tainted.

Stranger territories

Doctor Strange is a fun ride. There is no denying that. It is also spectacular, extremely well-acted, and action-packed. The only problem here is that it does not break new ground, and it doesn’t venture to stranger territories, as advertised.

You’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. That has always been the nagging feeling when you watch a superhero movie. Doctor Strange doesn’t change that. It doesn’t even try. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have kept quiet about their relationship status even though reports have said that they are back together and once again engaged.

But in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Miley spoke up about the ring she now wears on her left hand, where people often wear their engagement rings. Miley posted photos of it in January, which led many to believe that it was the same one that Liam gave her when they got engaged in 2012.

"So there's a photo – that got a lot of attention – of your engagement ring. Are you wearing it right now?" asked Ellen when Miley was a guest on her show on Thursday, October 27. 

Miley did not correct Ellen when she said it was an engagement ring.

She then confirmed she was wearing it, and continued: "This is weird because it's actually like, real jewelry, and most of my jewelry is made of like, gummy bears and cotton candy. And they don't look that good together 'cause they kind of mix up, so sometimes I actually replace it with an actual unicorn or a Looney Toon, and he's like, 'Well what's going on?'

"'Well, this isn't really my aesthetic, but I'll wear it 'cause you love me.'"

In response, Ellen joked, "He could've saved a lot of money by giving you a gummy bear ring or something."

A photo of Liam and Miley then flashed on the screen behind them followed by a collective "aww" from the audience. 

Aside from photos of the ring, different sources from Us Weekly, People, and E! Newshave confirmed that Miley and Liam are back together, and the couple has been photographed together as well.

Fans will go on a trippy, mind-bending journey; the visuals were much inspired by the work of Strange creator Steve Ditko. 

Marvel wanted Benedict Cumberbatch so much they moved the production schedule to accommodate him. 

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in a Hong Kong press conference for the film: "The truth is, for many years, Benedict was our number one choice, without question."

Benedict uses an American accent in the film. He told Rappler that he considered nothing else. 

He tells Rappler that he ‘tried on’ different tones before settling on a darker, deeper one for Stephen Strange. 

"I did experiment with tone, just literally with register of tone, the darkness, the richness of his voice, and I thought it should be lower, because he's got dark hair, and there's something quite suave about him, and he's very comfortable and relaxed in who he is, for the most part," he said in a roundtable interview with media. 

MANILA, Philippines – October is drawing to a close, Halloween is just around the corner, and creepy haunted houses and attractions have opened up all over the Metro.

But not all scary attractions are only open at Halloween – if you're looking for an out-of-season thrill, some are open year-round too!

No matter the time of the year, going through escape room attractions like Escape Hunt Manila, Breakout Philippines, and Mystery Manila all means everyone will be gleefully screaming and scrambling to get out, all under time pressure. 

At Mystery Manila, the creepiest are their supernatural-themed rooms: Debby's Doll, Rebecca's Room, and Rebecca's Revenge.

We tried out Debby's Doll, where you and your friends have an hour to escape a house haunted by an evil spirit that manifested itself in an old doll.

There was no shortage of screams, starts (from us) and creepy stares (from the toys), and the music – tinkling nursery ryhmes sung by a child – added a lot to the room's effect.

Something else that might scare you at Debby's Doll: the doll in question is inspired by the one from The Conjuring and Annabelle films.

If you can't seem to solve the clues to escape the room (or if you're too scared to move forward), a button calls on someone from the Mystery Manila team to help you.

MANILA, Philippines – Escorted by no less than the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), actor Jeffrey "Epy" Quizon took a drug test on Friday, 28, at the Camp Crame Crime Laboratory in Quezon City. 

The 43-year-old actor was accompanied by fellow actor Cesar Montano inside the PNP headquarters, where they met with PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa.

"At the office of Chief PNP BATO and Epy. Ang yabang ni Epy about to take drug test being escorted by Chief PNP pa (Epy's cocky because he's about to take the drug test and is being escorted by the chief of the PNP)," said Montano is a Facebook post. 

The two actors also had lunch at Dela Rosa's office at the PNP National Headquarters before eventually taking the drug test. 

"Voluntarily, magpapa-check po siya kung siya ay negative, drug test po (He's voluntarily taking a drug test to prove that it's negative)," said Montano in a live Facebook video taken as Quizon was filling out the forms for the drug test. 

He added: "Ang tunay po matagal na siyang tumigil pero gusto niya lang linisin sa isip ng mga tao... na clean na siya, matagal na po. At gusto niya pong maging mabuting testimony para sa lahat na drugs is not good for you."

(The truth is, he's long stopped taking drugs but he wants to make it clear to everyone that he's long been clean. And he wants to be a good testimony for everyone that drugs is not good for you.) 

Quizon's Camp Crame visit comes days after the PNP announced that it had submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte a list of celebrities who are supposedly users of illegal drugs. The list, which contains 54 names, was drafted by the police based on information from the intelligence community. 

Police had earlier teased that the list included a famous television host. They have, however, declined to release the list, pointing out that its release will be up to Duterte himself. 

Also on Friday, Dela Rosa was set to meet with Rez Cortez, Actor's Guild president. Cortez had earlier called on authorities not to make the list public.  

Montano is a known supporter of Duterte and even joined the Philippine contingent when Duterte visited China. He said he was there for business meetings. 

Since assuming power, Duterte has waged a "war on drugs" nationwide. Barely a month into office, Duterte named 5 retired and active generals with supposed links to illegal drugs.

Not long after, Duterte read aloud a list of politicians, police personnel, and members of the judiciary with supposed ties to illegal drugs.

One of them, Mayor Samsudin Dimaukom of Datu Saudi Ampatuan town, Maguindanao, was shot dead in an alleged shootout with state operatives early Friday morning in North Cotabato.

MANILA, Philippines – If you're looking for a good scare this Halloween, Eastwood City has opened it's The Walking Dead Haunted Horror House for the 3rd year in a row!

The Walking Dead Haunted Horror House: Alexandria Safe Zone opened to the public on Friday, October 28, and excited visitors were already lining up outside on the day. It's set to run until November 11.

The maze will open from 6 pm onwards while it's running at Eastwood Central Plaza.

The Alexandria Safe Zone is known in The Walking Dead TV series as a walled-off community that is supposedly safe from zombies or Walkers, as they're known in the series.

Inside Eastwood's haunted house, creepy zombies jump out of the dark to scare the visitors – whose screams can be heard from the outside – wandering through the maze.

Groups of 6 can enter the maze together for P170 a head, and children below 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

TOKYO, Japan – A Japanese comedian's nonsense tune that became an internet sensation after Justin Bieber recommended it has entered the Guinness World Records as the shortest song to break into the Billboard Hot 100.

The video for the 45-second long "Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen" has been viewed more than 67 million times since hitting YouTube in August, going viral after pop giant Bieber tweeted it as his "favorite video on the internet".

Pikotaro, who revealed he spent only 100,000 yen ($950) to make the video, hopes to do a world tour though doubts the global craze will continue.

MANILA, Philippines – Lydia Mercado, the adoptive mother of actress Jennylyn Mercado died on Saturday, October 29. She was 74 years old.

According to a report from GMA News, Lydia died Saturday morning. The news was also confirmed by Jennylyn's manager Becky Aguila to Pep.

"She died of sepsis secondary to pneumonia at 7:52 a.m. today at Saint Luke’s ICU,” Becky told Pep. 

Becky said that Jennylyn and the family are requesting for privacy as they mourn her mother's death.

Lydia is Jennylyn's aunt, who adopted her when she was kid. Her husband Roger died in 2008. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – After rumors and a report linking him with Sunshine Cruz, Macky Mathay, the half-brother of actress Ara Mina, said that he and Sunshine are dating. 

In an interview with Pep, Macky said that he and Sunshine started seeing each other  sometime in September. He also said that it all began when he sent a direct message via Instagram.

"Well, actually, it’s as simple as I sent her a direct message on Instagram. Ganun kasimple. (It was that simple) 

“Totoo yun. (That's true) I sent her a direct message sa Instagram, saying ‘Hi.’

“And then after, I sent her my ‘Hi’ message, dinugtungan ko kaagad ng (I followed it up with a ) second message," he said, adding he mentioned he was Ara's brother.

Macky said that it was perfect timing because Sunshine was with Ara in Brunei when she got the message. 

Macky also talked about the photo of him and Sunshine holding hands that went viral. 

“We were on our way to watch a movie

“Hindi namin na-notice na meron palang guy that was taking [a picture]… (We did not notice that there was a guy taking [a picture]...)

“I guess, pag titingnan mo yung picture, talagang mukhang selfie, di ba? (I guess, if you look at it, you think it was a selfie right?)

“Siguro nahiyang magpa-picture kasi nasa kalagitnaan nga ng pagtawid," he said. (I guess he was shy to have a photo taken because we were in the middle of crossing.)

In the same interview, Macky said it was him who first said I love you to Sunshine.

“Sinabi ko sa kanya (I told her ) that ‘I love you.’

“Sabi ko (I said), ‘Before I finally said I love you, matagal kong pinag-isipan. Kasi since matagal ka nang hindi nagka-relationship, baka hindi ka pa handa. (I really thought about it. Because since you have not been in a relationship for a long time, you might not be ready.)

“'I don’t want to rush you into anything,’ sabi ko, ‘Kasi nararamdaman ko naman para sa 'yo ay makakapaghintay naman.’ (I told her what I'm feeling for you, I can wait.)

“Sabi ko (I said),‘I can wait, I can wait.’"

Macky said that he and Sunshine have become comfortable with each other even before getting together formally.

"Sinasabi ko kay Sunshine, 'Everything happens so fast between the two of us, but the thing is, I love you. And puwede namang araw-araw kitang ligawan pa rin.'

(I told Sunshine, 'Everything happens so fast between the two of us, but the thing is, I love you. And I could always court you everyday.')

"Para at least, 'di ba, ang dami-daming tao na – at saka, iyon nga, matanda na kami na ang dami nang pinagdaanan sa buhay, the two of us, [na baka] hindi na uli makahanap ng mamahalin. So, bakit pipigilan mo pa yung nararamdaman mo?" he said. 

(So at least 'there are so many people- and we are already mature people that we've been through so much in our lives, the two of us, that we at some point, we may not find anyone else to love. So why should you hold back on what you're feeling?)

On Instagram, Macky posted a collage made by some of Sunshine's followers.
