MANILA, Philippines  (2nd UPDATE) – Cristine Reyes has spoken up about the issue between her and Tubig at Langis co-star Vivian Velez, after she was accused of being rude towards the veteran actress. (READ: Vivian Velez quits show, says Cristine Reyes was 'rude' to her)

Cristine posted this message on her social media accounts after commenting on the issue:

In a statement coursed through her management, Viva Entertainment, and published on PEP, Tuesday, March 8, Cristine narrated her side of the story.

"I have always put our senior stars in high regard and do my best to treat them with much respect. In fact, I have not had any incidents like this with anyone, senior or otherwise, on the set of any project until now," she said.

According to Cristine, the entire misunderstanding started with an issue she had with a dressing room assigned to her.

"It was infested with so many mosquitos that made it very uncomfortable to stay in. I was also quite afraid of any of us getting dengue," she told PEP.

Cristine said that production staff had promised to transfer her to another dressing room. During the next taping, she was given the master bedroom of their shooting location, which then became her regular dressing room.

She said that last March 3, the executive producer asked if Vivian can share the room with her, since Vivian's assigned area was not ready.

"I of course agreed. I was fine sharing a room with any of my co-stars for as long as we have mutual respect. I would not have agreed with production if I had any ill feelings towards Ms Vivian," she said.

Cristine then recounted an occasion when she and her staff just came from a movie shoot and wanted to rest in their assigned room. However, she said that Vivian made it difficult for them to get some rest because of the commotion the veteran actress was making inside the room.

"I went out to get some air and went to where the common area for artists and production was. The EP [executive producer] asked me why I was there. I said that it was difficult to sleep with Ms Vivian inside the room."

The room issue

Later on, Vivian's dressing room was finally set up, and Cristine said that Vivian was irate upon being notified of her transfer: "From what I understand, she was first notified by the production assistants and upon being notified she threw a fit blaming me for her transfer."

"The EP [executive producer] immediately tried to pacify her but she stood her ground and continued shouting, telling everyone that I was the one booting her out of the room," she said.

Cristine later found out that the mosquito-infested tent initially assigned to her was originally Vivian's. She said, "I was not privy to this and so I fully understood what she was going through."

She asked the executive producer if she can personally explain to Vivian that she was not responsible for the transfer. However, tensions were still high, and the dialogue did not push through.

She told PEP, "To be very clear about it, I never requested anyone at any point for Ms Vivian to be transferred rooms. In fact, I gladly welcomed production’s request for her to share a room with me while her room was still unavailable."

"And despite the inconvenience I encountered while she was around, I had no intentions whatsoever of booting her out," she added.

Cristine said that she was told by the Tubig at Langis executive producer that negotiations were set to happen regarding Vivian's departure.

"Still I would’ve appreciated a resolution better because I had nothing to do with the issue of Ms Vivian's source of anger. It was the production staff that was trying to transfer her and not me," Cristine said.

Cristine also aired her side regarding another incident that Vivian raised up in a previous PEP interview. She was said to be singing Avril Lavigne's "Goodbye," which irked Vivian; however, she said that she was merely trying to ease her own stress.

However, she recounted that Vivian confronted her, shouting, "Ako ba ang pinariringgan mo!? Sino ka ba?! Superstar ka ba?!" (Were you just alluding to me?! Are you even a superstar?!)

“I got rattled at this point and I just answered her in a mild manner, ‘Kumakanta lang naman ako, masama ba kumanta?’ (I was just singing, is that bad?)"

Cristine ended her statement, apologizing to those who got involved in the issue.

"I am sorry that some gaps in the communication between the production staff, Ms Vivian, and myself escalated some issues," she told PEP, corroborating a statement from the production staff of Tubig at Langis. (READ: 'Tubig at Langis' team clarifies Cristine Reyes, Vivian Velez incident)

The statement read, "Cristine did not actually ask Vivian to leave the dressing room. There was a miscommunication and the production team wishes to take responsibility for this. In fact, the staff takes no issue with Cristine's work ethic and she has been cordial towards her colleagues. We wish to apologize to Cristine and Vivian regarding this issue."

Cristine also apologized if some of her actions were "misconstrued for rudeness," when she was merely "coping with the stressful working conditions on the set in this particular instance."

"I do have high regard for and respect with thanks senior artists who have paved the way for stars like me in the industry," she ended.

Cristine's sister Ara Mina also defended her sister, saying that she hopes the issue will be resolved soon.

Vivian previously announced on Facebook that she wished "to tender her immediate irrevocable resignation" as a cast member of Tubig and Langis, where she played Conching, the hardworking mother of Natoy, the protagonist played by Zanjoe Marudo.

After Cristine and the Tubig at Langis production team expressed their side, Vivian responded on Facebook, calling it: "WHITEWASHING as expected…"

She also wrote separately, "I'm taping my last scenes in the series right now and I feel like I'm walking in the lion's den..." – Rappler.com

AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson risks deafness, quits tour

NEW YORK, USA – Australian rock elders AC/DC on Monday postponed remaining dates on their US tour after singer Brian Johnson was warned he risked total deafness.

The 68-year-old Johnson "has been advised by doctors to stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss," the band said in a statement.

AC/DC, famous for playing at painfully high decibels, said it would play the 10 remaining US shows at later dates but "likely with a guest vocalist."

Johnson, known for his trademark cap and a voice that strains the vocal cords, joined the band in 1980 after singer Bon Scott died following a night of heavy drinking.

The delayed shows include a concert due Tuesday in Atlanta as well as an April 4 show at Madison Square Garden in New York.

It remained unclear whether the band would be able to pursue the European leg of their Rock or Bust tour that is scheduled to begin on May 7 in Lisbon.

The tour had been due to end with a concert on June 12 at a 46,000-capacity park in Aarhus, Denmark.

The rockers had added the additional dates after a busy 2015 that included a headliner appearance at Coachella in California, one of the world's leading festivals.

But Johnson's hearing problems are just the latest of the band's woes.

AC/DC's latest album Rock or Bust, released in 2014 after a 6-year gap, is the first without founding member and rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who has retired due to dementia.

Young's brother Angus remains the lead guitarist – known, even at age 60, for sporting his signature schoolboy outfit.

The band has also parted ways with drummer Phil Rudd, who was convicted in New Zealand of threatening to kill an employee.

AC/DC has sold more than 200 million albums since 1973 with Back in Black among music history's top sellers. – Rappler.com

Kris' announcement comes after she posted on Sunday, March 6 that she was having problems with her blood pressure. In the same post, she also told her followers she will make an announcement soon.

"My BP Thursday night to Saturday night was elevated, sadly when I have a heavy workload for 3-4 straight days, even on maintenance, it spikes; normalized today because I had complete bed rest yesterday.

"Went to 1st Friday Mass w/ Ate, updated & consulted this weekend w/ all my siblings regarding my health issues because they worry about their bunso... We consulted w/ my team of doctors on what I should do for long term wellness. (Our dad had his heart attack when he was 47 years old, I'm now 45 & the only 1 in our family w/ hypertension)- I obeyed Viel & after a high fiber brunch, I did 40 minutes on my elliptical (she sent me several heart health articles)...

"I'll keep you #MyIGBarkada posted because I need to make some important life choices in the next few days... I am the girl who has passionately loved & prioritized my work, and these decisions aren't easy that's why I'm praying fervently for God's loving guidance. My 2 boys need a healthy mom & that is my primary, long term goal. A healthy Sunday to all," she said.

MANILA, Philippines – As we nervously wait for the sixth season of Game of Thrones to air, we finally get a glimpse at what’s in store.

Beginning with a somber tune by James Vincent McMorrow, “Wicked Game,” the new red band trailer is jampacked with images and sound bites that keep us on the edge of our seat.

We see a deposed Daenerys Targaryen, a vengeful Jaime and Cersei Lannister, Bran Stark and the Night’s King, and Jon Snow splayed out on the ground – juxtaposed with a shot of Melisandre.

"You’re in the great game now, and the great game is terrifying," says Tyrion, and indeed, that is the case for most of us.

Prince William criticized over skiing snaps

LONDON, United Kingdom – Official photographs of Prince William and his family skiing fuelled growing criticism in the British press on Tuesday, March 8 of the "workshy" royal, driven by frustration at his perceived reluctance for a life in the public eye. (IN PHOTOS: Prince William and Kate Middleton take kids on ski holiday)

The palace said the Duke of Cambridge and his wife Kate "hope people enjoy the photos" of the couple with their young children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, on a private trip to the French Alps last week.

The young royals remain hugely popular in Britain and the pictures made front-page news.

But almost 5 years after William's extravagant wedding in 2011, commentators are casting a more critical eye over the second in line to the throne.

"Sloping off again... Workshy Wills takes family skiing" headlined The Sun tabloid under a front-page picture of a laughing Kate throwing a snowball at her husband.

The normally monarchist paper last month dubbed William the "reluctant royal" after noting he had conducted just 122 official engagements last year, while his 89-year-old grandmother Queen Elizabeth II had carried out 341.

William also has a job as helicopter pilot for the air ambulance service near his home in Norfolk, eastern England – the first royal directly in line to the throne in civilian employment.

But the mass-selling Daily Mail tabloid reported that he only works there 80 hours a month. The Sun quoted a source saying that he was "hardly ever on shift".

Several newspapers criticized the failure of William to hold a photocall on his holiday, instead choosing to invite a single news agency photographer to take shots that were then distributed by the palace.

'Quid pro-quo'

William has a deep distrust of the media, driven by the death of his mother Diana in a Paris car crash in 1997 while being pursued by paparazzi.

But critics argue that dealing with the media, and performing public duties, is a key part of being a royal.

"The quid pro-quo of the royals' fabulous lifestyle is hard work and accountability to the taxpayers who fund it," The Sun wrote in an editorial on Tuesday.

Former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan, himself a staunch monarchist, urged William to "play the game".

"If he continues to rewrite the rules of engagement than eventually the press will too – and then I fear he'll see what real intrusion's all about, of the kind his mother had to endure," he wrote in an article for Mail Online.

The Daily Express tabloid last month claimed that William was not "workshy" but was wary of working as hard as his father Prince Charles because he wanted to be a more hands-on dad.

"William does not want to be an absent father because he knew what it was like growing up with one," a source close to the royal told the paper.

 'Sign of frustration'

His concern for his children has also led William to tightly restrict media access to the young prince and princess, including by moving the family out of London to Norfolk.

Since the birth of Prince George in 2013, there have only been a handful of opportunities to photograph him and Princess Charlotte, who was born in 2015.

Instead the royals have often issued their own photos, some of them taken by Kate herself.

Wary of the public outrage that remains over Diana's death, the British press have largely been cooperative.

But Neil Wallis, formerly executive editor of the now defunct News of the World tabloid, said the current criticism was a "sign of frustration".

"It's very, very plain that the public want to continue their love affair with these young royals, who in my view have probably saved the House of Windsor in recent years," he told BBC radio.

"But I think there is a legitimate question being asked here and it may be being fuelled by how little we're allowed to know about the royals now."

However, Robert Jobson, royal editor of London's Evening Standard, said newspapers were simply irritated that they did not find out about the skiing holiday before it happened.

"It's not really the fault of the royals that the tabloids don't have the information," he told the broadcaster. – Alice Ritchie, AFP/Rappler.com

Kim Kardashian pens essay on nude selfie, empowerment on Int'l Women's Day

MANILA, Philippines – After firing back at her celebrity critics on Tuesday, March 8, Kim Kardashian took to her website to explain at greater length how she felt about the backlash over her nude selfie. (READ: Kim Kardashian fires back at celebrity critics over nude selfie)

While Kim's Twitter rant was light – even casually referencing her husband Kanye West's infamous Twitter rant about being in debt– the essay on her site took on a different tone.

"In all seriousness, I never understand why people get so bothered by what other people choose to do with their lives.

"I don't do drugs, I hardly drink, I've never committed a crime – and yet I'm a bad role model for being proud of my body?"

Kim then said that all the judgement and criticism that people throw at her always leads back to the sex tape that was made 13 years ago that put her in the spotlight.

Kim and her then-boyfriend Ray J made a sex tape in 2003, which was leaked in 2007.

"I lived through the embarrassment and fear, and decided to say who cares, do better, move on. I shouldn't have to constantly be on the defense, listing off my accomplishments just to prove that I am more than something that happened 13 years ago," wrote Kim.

"Let's move on, already. I have," she added.

Kim's essay was published on International Women's Day. Before using the hashtag "#happyinternationalwomensday" to finish, the reality TV star took the opportunity to talk about what empowered her as a woman.

"I am empowered by my body. I am empowered by my sexuality. I am empowered by feeling comfortable in my skin. I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me. And I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world.

"I am empowered by my husband, who is so accepting and supportive and who has given me a newfound confidence in myself. He allows me to be me and loves me unconditionally."

Kim also spoke about growing up with women and some of the things she's learned and wants to impart on her daughter.

"I feel so lucky to have grown up surrounded by strong, driven, independent women. The life lessons I've learned from my sisters, my mother and my grandmother, I will pass along to my daughter," wrote Kim.

Kim has two sisters and two half-sisters, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner. All of them have starred in the reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, along with their mom, Kris Jenner and their brother Rob Kardashian. Caitlyn Jenner, formerly Bruce Jenner, is also on the show – she was married to Kris before coming out as a transgender woman.

"I want her to be proud of who she is. I want her to be comfortable in her body. I don't want her to grow up in a world where she is made to feel less-than for embracing everything it means to be a woman," Kim wrote about her two-year-old daughter, North West.

Kim finished by saying that in this day and age, she shouldn't be made ashamed of her body.

"It's 2016. The body-shaming and slut-shaming – it's like, enough is enough. I will not live my life dictated by the issues you have with my sexuality. You be you and let me be me.

"I am a mother. I am a wife, a sister, a daughter, an entrepreneur, and I am allowed to be sexy."

Among Kim's celebrity critics were actress Chloë Grace Moretz, who tweeted Kim about setting an example for young women, and TV personality Piers Morgan, who offered to buy Kim clothes in light of Kanye's alleged $53 million debt.

Bette Midler was also among them, saying, "If Kim wants us to see a part of her we've never seen, she's gonna have to swallow the camera."

These reactions and Kim's succeeding replies on Twitter and her website were set off by a nude, censored photo that Kim posted on her social media accounts on March 7. – Rappler.com

LOS ANGELES, United States – Matrix co-director Andy Wachowski came out on Tuesday as transgender, giving her new name as Lilly, 4 years after directing partner and sister Lana made the same announcement.

The 48-year-old made a statement to Chicago-based LGBT publication the Windy City Times, it reported, after she was approached by a reporter from British newspaper The Daily Mail.

{source}<div id="fb-root"></div><script>(function(d, s, id) {  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;  js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;  js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3";  fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));</script><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/windycitymediagroup/posts/10153978930768545:0" data-width="500"><div class="fb-xfbml-parse-ignore"><blockquote cite="https://www.facebook.com/windycitymediagroup/posts/10153978930768545:0"><p>Second Wachowski filmmaker sibling comes out as trans, Lilly releases statement to Windy City Timeshttp://www.windycitymediagroup.com/lgbt/Second-Wachowski-filmmaker-sibling-comes-out-as-trans-/54509.html</p>Posted by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/windycitymediagroup/">Windy City Times</a> on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/windycitymediagroup/posts/10153978930768545:0">Tuesday, 8 March 2016</a></blockquote></div></div>{/source}

"Sex change shocker – Wachowski brothers now sisters!!!" ran the headline of the filmmaker's statement sent to the Times.

"There's the headline I've been waiting for this past year," Wachowski wrote, recounting how several news outfits had threatened to out her against her will this past year.

She said she was prompted to act after being approached at home this week by a reporter from the London-based Daily Mail.

"He proceeded to explain... that I really had to sit down with him tomorrow or the next day or next week so that I could have my picture taken and tell my story which was so inspirational," Wachowski said.

"Being transgender is not easy. We live in a majority-enforced gender binary world," she said.

"This means when you're transgender you have to face the hard reality of living the rest of your life in a world that is openly hostile to you."

Wachowksi confirmed that she had "transitioned" but didn't specifically mention gender reassignment surgery.

"I knew at some point I would have to come out publicly," she said. "I just wanted – needed some time to get my head right, to feel comfortable. But apparently I don't get to decide this."

Wachowski's sister Lana, 50, publicly embraced her gender switch from Larry for the first time in 2012.

Her sex change had long been rumored but never confirmed, as she had previously avoided interviews and publicity tours by insisting on no-press clauses in her film contracts.

A New Yorker article revealed that Larry separated from his then wife while shooting the last two installments of The Matrix trilogy after suffering from anxiety and depression over a long period.

In 2009, Larry divorced, began living as transgendered Lana, and eventually married another woman.

The Wachowskis made their first film together in 1996 but they are best known for the three Matrix movies starring Keanu Reeves, which netted more than $1.5 billion worldwide.

Their back catalogue also includes Cloud Atlas, last year's Jupiter Ascending and, as producers and writers, V for Vendetta.

GLAAD, formerly the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, said in a statement it was "thrilled" Lilly Wachowski had come out but added that she should not have been "forced to disclose her transgender identity before she was ready to do so." – Rappler.com

"Sir George Martin was a giant of music – working with the Fab Four to create the world's most enduring pop music," Cameron wrote on Twitter.

The producer, who signed up the Beatles after hearing their demo record in 1962, was so essential to the band's success that he was nicknamed the "Fifth Beatle".

"R.I.P. George Martin. I'm so gutted I don't have many words. Thinking of Judy and Giles and family," late band member John Lennon's son Sean wrote on Instagram, referring to Martin's wife and one of his four children.

Martin was born in January 1926, a carpenter’s son from north London.

After serving in World War II, he studied at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and began playing the oboe in bars and clubs around London.

His first job was in the BBC's music library.

He then joined the record label Parlophone, a division of EMI, and rose to become its head by 1955 at the age of just 29.

First single 'pretty poor'

Martin quickly realized the Beatles' potential after first hearing them in 1962.

"I liked them as people apart from anything else and I was convinced that we had the makings of a hit group," he told Melody Maker magazine in an interview.

But he added that: "As composers, they didn't rate. They hadn't shown me that they could write anything at all."

The band's first single "Love Me Do", which reached number four in the charts in October 1962, "was pretty poor but it was the best we could do," he said.

That song was followed by "Please Please Me", which made number two, and "From Me To You" in April 1963 – their first chart-topper.

Martin also composed scores for the Beatles films A Hard Day's Night and Yellow Submarine.

After the band split, he built the Air Studios on the Caribbean island of Montserrat and went on to work with other artists including Bob Dylan, Sting and Elton John.

He also recorded two of former Beatle Paul McCartney's solo albums, Tug of War and Pipes of Peace

He continued to write music and work with music charities until his death.

Music stars reacted quickly to the news, with singer Lenny Kravitz paying tribute to Martin as a "visionary producer" and tweeting: "The legends are really going home!"

MANILA, Philippines – Singer-actress Zsa Zsa Padilla said that she has yet to finalize all the details for her wedding to architect Conrad Onglao.

In a interview with reporters during the press conference for The Story of Us on Tuesday, March 8, Zsa Zsa said that some of those details will be kept under wraps.

"[The wedding will be] this year, pero (but) surprise. Pati sa kanya (For him it's also a), surprise. Sabi ko, akong bahala (I told him I'll take care of it)," she said.

According to Zsa Zsa, she and Conrad are not planning a big wedding and only want their kids to be present during the big day.

She also said she really doesn't want to discuss the plans, since she got traumatized a few years back, when she was allowed to marry the late comedy king Dolphy, only for it to be halted due to a court decision.

Zsa Zsa's annulment to ex-husband Modesto Tatlonghari was finalized in 2011, but before she could marry Dolphy, he died in 2012.

"Sa edad ko hindi na, kasi na pepressure ako na may masaktan.

(At my age I'm not really [excited] because I get pressured that I might hurt people.)

"At saka may hindi maimbita 'di ba and I don’t want it to be big kasi hindi ko naman ito first wedding and di naman nya ito first wedding," she said.

(And there might be some people who are not invited and I don't want it big because this is not my first wedding and this is not also his first wedding.)

Kapag nagpaplano ako, natu-trauma ako, e, parang nane-nega na ako na hindi matuloy, baka may mangyari," Zsa Zsa explained.

(When I plan, I get traumatized, so I start being negative that it might not push through, that it might not happen.)

Sabi ko, siguro kung bibiglain ko na lang. Pati siya mabibigla na lang.”

(So I said, I guess it will just be quite sudden. So even he will be surprised.)

Last September, Zsa Zsa announced that she and Conrad were engaged after dating for more than a year.

Zsa Zsa was previously married to Modesto Tatlonghari, a dentist, with whom she has a daughter, Karylle. Zsa Zsa has two children with Dolphy – Nicole and Zia Quizon.

Conrad has two children from his previous marriage to architect Ivy Almario.

On family life

As for her daughter Karylle, Zsa Zsa said she is not pressuring her eldest to have a baby. Karylle is married to Sponge Cola vocalist Yael Yuzon.

"Mahirap iyon eh. Alam ko yung pressure na iyon kasi when I tried to get pregnant with Zia two years iyon (That's very difficult. I know the pressure because I was pressured for two years when I tried to get pregnant with Zia). So I would know how it feels. So I think, when she’s ready," she said.

When asked if she's ready to become a grandmother, Zsa Zsa said: "Gusto ko naman magka-apo pero mahirap mangkulit kasi s'ympre, may mga bagay-bagay ( Of course I want to have a grandchild but's hard to keep nagging because there are so many things involved)."

On Francis Pasion and working conditions in the industry

Zsa Zsa shared that at the beginning of her relationship with Conrad, he had to adjust to her work load and challenging working hours.

"I was on the thick of Dyesebel nung bago yung relasyon namin and sabi niya ‘Oh my God, I have newfound respect for your job. Kasi nakikita nya yung finished product hindi niya alam yung working hours," she said.

She also gave her opinion about the working conditions in the industry, following the death of director Francis Xavier Pasion who died due to cardiac arrest on Sunday, March 6. The two worked together on Dyesebel.

(The work hours, I hope so especially in the Philippines. I'm so impressed with how we work on our teleseryes. It's watched worldwide and it's already being marketed abroad, so I my dream is like that in Korea, where it's already canned.)

‘The Divergent Series: Allegiant’ review: Higher stakes, lesser sense

In the end of the woefully bland Insurgent (2015), Tris (Shailene Woodley) and her company of brooding youngsters have just dismantled the caste system of post-apocalyptic Chicago.

Jeanine (Kate Winslet), the mastermind of the system that divided the populace using their primary traits, had just been executed by her nemesis Evelyn (Naomi Watts), a rather wishy-washy leader who is all about pleasing the angry mob she created during the rebellion.

Another continuation

Allegiant begins exactly where the previous film ended.

Tris is still with her company of brooding youngsters who want to leave walled Chicago. Evelyn, who has been executing Jeanine’s collaborators to please her own angry constituents, has decided to shut the entire city in. Jeanine’s inhumane treatment of her prisoners has caused a rift with former allies, resulting in a war within the walled metropolis.

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0G0C-vMHcQY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

Of course, Tris and her friends will find a way out, only to find out that outside Chicago is a vast wasteland where a pocket community of futuristic people have been observing them right from the start.

So Allegiant is basically like the first two movies of The Divergent series, albeit with higher stakes. Outside the clutches of the ludicrous system that novelist Veronica Roth has conceived for her popular book franchise, the characters are now burdened with the same conflict outside Chicago. As it turns out, the futuristic world, headed by a demure bureaucrat (Jeff Daniels), still stratifies humanity, only this time, they aren’t divided by personality but by genetic purity.

Bigger canvas

Director Robert Schwentke, who inherited the series from Neil Burger, has a bigger canvas to fill. Burger’s mannered approach to Roth’s garish allegory gave the first film a certain dignified quality that is quite rare in the genre.

Schwentke, however, shifted the tone of the series, making it more conventional without necessarily ornamenting the series with astounding spectacles. Insurgent was vapid and near incomprehensible with its confused take on the juvenile philosophy that veiled the whole adventure.

Anyway, as soon as Allegiant’s sulking heroes and heroines escape ruined Chicago, the film immediately lets out a great gasp of air, having finally been released from the redundancy of abandoned skyscrapers and unkempt streets. This could have been Schwentke’s opportunity to think outside the box, to make his mark in a series that is feels like a poor imitation of all the other poor imitations that Hollywood has been churning recently.

Outside, everything is red and noxious, almost like the suffocating desert of George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Roadwith a bad case of acne. It almost feels like the series is treading towards a more mature and sarcastic direction, where the series’ kids who are always right are to finally get their comeuppance and admit that their adults are correct all along. There is no hope outside the walls.

Sadly, the initial awe is immediately replaced by the tedium of experiencing everything repeat itself, only this time, with more obvious computer-generated graphics. The bare crimson landscapes feel fake and soulless, as opposed to having the imprint of seeing humanity die. The film’s visuals never really graduate from being the cinematic equivalent of a kindergarten’s show-and-tell class.

Dumb and dumber

The green-screen visuals are just padding to a grossly deficient and redundant narrative that Schwentke barely improves on.

His heroes are dumb and reactive. His villains are even dumber. The film is a medley of characters squeezing out of harsh scenarios either by coincidence or by the sheer stupidity of adults who should know better.

In other words, the film severely lacks urgency, not only because of its plodding pace, but because the audience can always count on idiocy and senselessness to save the day. – Rappler.com

‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ review: Sights over story

The genre that the Kung Fu Panda movies have repetitively parodied throughout the years is one that is heavily defined by formula. Amidst the movie series' predictable tale of its standard-issue hero overcoming physical and spiritual trials to overcome a far stronger opponent, wuxia (literally "martial warrior"films are almost always draped in visuals that often transcend the mechanical plot they adhere to. (IN PHOTOS: A look at new characters in 'Kung Fu Panda 3')

The first Kung Fu Panda, directed by Mark Osborne and John Stevenson, had novelty going for it. Its playful appropriation of Po (Jack Black), an overfed and charmingly immature panda, as an up and coming martial artist is enough to sustain a feature length film.

Moreover, its east-meets-west antic is exploited for whatever its worth, to the point that the film doesn’t really strike as a clever piece of cartoon but as a hodgepodge of jokes strung together by a Hollywood-ish appreciation of the orient.

Sequel sickness

Kung Fu Panda 2 is left with just a fraction of the first film’s novelty but with heavy expectations to fulfill.

Jennifer Yuh, who directed the imaginative opening of the first film and is tasked to take the helm from Osborne and Stevenson, infused the series with a visual richness that is often neglected in cartoons that are all about gloss and slapstick.

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fGPPfZIvtCw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

The sequel is beautiful to look at. It possesses a color palette and an animation style that makes it feel like it isn’t just making fun of the culture it is lampooning, but that it at least has a certain respect for it.

Sadly, the storytelling did not evolve as much as the visual design. Kung Fu Panda 2 expanded the universe of Po by infusing his story with a dramatic past, which in turn is the springboard of the franchise’s 3rd installment. The sequel is back at having unlikely hero Po fighting off an even greater opponent and learning a thing or two about himself and his capabilities along the way.

Visual promise Photo courtesy of DreamWorks Animation

Now, Kung Fu Panda 3 doesn’t stray far from the formula. It still features Po, who has now established himself as a great warrior with the heart and humor of a kid, fighting another opponent who wields a power that is more immense than anything he has encountered before. The story remains the same, only this time, the backstory that is only teased in the sequel becomes a major plot point. (WATCH: First trailer for 'Kung Fu Panda 3')

Kung Fu Panda 3 is spectacular when it needs to be. The movie, co-directed by Yuh with Alessandro Carloni, has moments that come close to being sublime.

In a way, the story, which now involves a certain Spirit World, a villain that has jade warriors at its command, and an entire village full of overeating panda bears, is fully utilized for its visual promise, with bursts of patterned lights accompanying the standard-issue action sequences that are all backdropped in exoticized locales.

Reliance on formula

The franchise’s reliance on formula however is the 3rd film’s undoing. While Kung Fu Panda 3 is able to buoy interest with its dynamic visuals, its nearly mechanical way of pushing the narrative towards its grandiose climax is quite a struggle.

The film starts wonderfully, with Po’s wisecracks fresh out of the box and the rest of the movie’s characters doing their own hilarious things. However, the movie seems to chew more than it can swallow, stuffing itself with more characters than its petty plot can handle.

Midpoint, the film is drowning in its own excessive silliness, and its monotonous string of joke-and-spectacle gimmicks becomes quite tedious.

Thankfully, it picks up. It even manages to end in a note that recalls the indelible highs of the first Kung Fu Panda’s bid at being a comical underdog story. It’s good enough, despite the fact that it is brazenly just a beautiful repeat. – Rappler.com

Beatle Paul McCartney mourns 'second father' George Martin

LONDON, United Kingdom – Beatle Paul McCartney on Wednesday paid tribute to the band's legendary producer George Martin, who died on Tuesday, calling him a "true gentleman" and "second father".

"I'm so sad to hear the news of the passing of dear George Martin," the singer/songwriter wrote on his official website. "He was a true gentleman and like a second father to me."

McCartney credited Martin, whose death, aged 90, was announced by his family on Wednesday, with guiding the career of The Beatles "with such skill and good humor that he became a true friend to me and my family."

"If anyone earned the title of the fifth Beatle it was George," he wrote.

"From the day that he gave The Beatles our first recording contract, to the last time I saw him, he was the most generous, intelligent and musical person I've ever had the pleasure to know."

McCartney recalled Martin's decision to put a string quartet on seminal single "Yesterday," and his diplomacy on getting the band to agree, as a standout memory.

"When we recorded the string quartet at Abbey Road, it was so thrilling to know his idea was so correct that I went round telling people about it for weeks," he wrote.

Despite his authoritarian air and strict professionalism, McCartney highlighted Martin's sense of fun.

"Even when he was knighted by the queen there was never the slightest trace of snobbery about him," he wrote.

"The world has lost a truly great man who left an indelible mark on my soul and the history of British music," he added. "God bless you George and all who sail in you!"

Abbey Road, the iconic studios where Martin and the band famously worked, issued a statement expressing "deepest condolences to the Martin family".

"Sir George transformed music recording with his creative flair, innovation and passion and we want to express our deep sadness at losing such an immensely talented, charming and warm man," it said.

"We are committed to ensuring Sir George's visionary legacy lives forever at Abbey Road Studios, and we are hugely honored to be part of his story." – Rappler.com

CROSSOVER. Director James Bobin confirms a '23 Jump Street' and 'Men in Black' crossover movie. Photo shows stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in '22 Jump Street.' Screengrab from YouTube/Sony Pictures Entertainment

LOS ANGELES, USA – Muppets director James Bobin confirmed long-rumored plans for a 23 Jump Street and Men in Black crossover on Wednesday, March 9, saying he was excited about directing the project.

The idea of the movie mash-up emerged in an email leaked during the 2014 Sony hack crisis regarding Jump Street star Jonah Hill's involvement – but the studio has not so far commented.

"It's two brilliant ideas worked together into one amazingly brilliant idea and its really fun," he told journalists at a media event in Los Angeles to publicize his new movie, Alice Through The Looking Glass.

"I can't say much about it right now because it's obviously super early days. But I'm very excited about it because it's just an amazing idea which really works, and in a way that feels incredibly brave and interesting and original."

Asked if he was definitely on board to direct, he said he "couldn't possibly comment." But entertainment industry weekly Variety reported last week that he was slated to replace Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with Sony eyeing a June production start date.

The pair directed the first two Jump Street films but were unable to take on the crossover as they were focusing on an untitled Star Wars anthology film focusing on Han Solo, Variety said.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are expected to return to reprise their roles as Jenko and Schmidt, although Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are not said to be returning as Agents Jay and Kay.

Bobin, who cut his teeth writing and directing for British television, helped create comedy actor Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G, Borat and Bruno characters, as well as directing two Muppets films.

Bobin said recruiting his longtime friend Baron Cohen, who plays the antagonist Time in the Alice sequel, was critical to his involvement in the movie.

"We've already got a bad guy, the Red Queen, so we don't need another one. But I thought it would be interesting to have a guy whereby he was this omnipotent being, but he's also a twit.

"There's no one better at playing the confident idiot trope than Sacha Baron Cohen."

MANILA, Philippines – For actress and former Quezon City councilor Aiko Melendez, it's all about balance – working more actively on her acting career, while caring for her kids.

In an interview with reporters during the press conference for The Story of Us, where she plays Kim Chiu's stepmother, Aiko said she decided to step away from politics because she wanted to focus rasing her two children, Andre Yllana and Marthena Jickain.

Aiko served as Quezon City Councilor for 3 terms and ran for vice-mayor in 2010, but lost to incumbent vice mayor Joy Belmonte.

"Because my kids are growing up na and it requires my time and my love and more, more time. So it was a perfect timing for everything. Because sabi ko nga, when I had God in my life, I had to put him in the center of everything, God restored everything – my relationship with my kids , my relationship sa work ko kasi basically I’m trying to bounce back now as an actress.

"So God has been good to me and that he's been giving me for what I prayed for," she said.

A single mom, Aiko said she makes sure to instill good values in her two kids especially son Andre, her son with former husband Jomari Yillana, who is now a teen. Like any mom, she said that she worries over his well-being, and wants the best for him. "The best for my son is to finish school and make a name on his own, and stable and that’s the only time he can get married," Aiko added.

I guess Andre has no choice but to support his dad’s will to serve his constituents. So I think he’s there to support his dad," she said.

As for her daughter Marthena by ex-husband Martin Jickain, Aiko said: "She goes to an exclusive school, wherein tinuturuan sila ng values na you know na pag may kaharap ka na mas matanda sa iyo, you’ll still always say po which is normal sa mga Filipino children... And yung huwag maging mayabang. Hindi dahil anak ka ng artista na maging mapag-mata ka that’s what I always tell her. And to be God fearing." Her marriage to Martin Jickain was annulled in 2010.

"Naging maganda naman [with the guy], but I just don’t see myself in a commitment, and I think it’s going to be unfair for him also na pag-usapan ko siya kasi hindi naman siya artista. So respect na lang sa kanya andbasta ang mahalaga na pareho kaming mutual decision na maging friends na lang kami," she said.

(It was good [with the guy], but I just don’t see myself in a commitment, and I think it’s going to be unfair for him also if we talk about him because he's not in showbiz. So I do respect him, and what's important, bot of us had a mutual decision to be friends.)

People have often teased her that she and Jomari will end up together again as both of them are single. Aiko said she's leaving that up to God.

"Sa buhay natin hindi kasi certain diba? Ngayon mahal mo, bukas hindi na. Tapos ngayon mahal mo. (In life, we're not really certain right? Today you love the person, tomorrow you won't, and again today, you love the person,) So I always leave it up to God. l just let God live my life this time," she said.

Tough elections

Asked to comment about the upcoming presidential elections, Aiko said: "Most especially now that we are on a presidential national election, so this is going to be tougher. And ever in the Philippine history of local government or national election also per se, ngayon lang tayo nagkakaroon ng (it's only now that we're having) 3 presidentiables na nagpapalitan sa (who are constantly shifting in) surveys ng number one. So it’s kinda tricky.

"So ayoko pangunahan, pero ito medyo mahirap (I don't want to say anything prematurely, but yes, this is going to be hard)," she added.

Surveys have constantly shown presidential aspirants Senator Grace Poe, Vice President Jejomar Binay, Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, and former DILG secretary Mar Roxas battling for the lead with close margins. (READ: Duterte, Poe, Binay, Roxas and a dead heat race)

Aiko also shared that unlike the time she ran and became part of politics, social media will definitely play a bigger role this time around.

"Kaya sa mga kabataan ngayon (That's why to to the youth), think before you click. Because a lot of people follows and values their opinion most especially the voters now lalo na ang mga (especially those who are) 18 and up. Whatever they click in social media, it matters to everyone now," she said. – Rappler.com

The cover was criticized when it was first released, for being similar to Lil Wayne's 2008 album Tha Carter III.

However, Zayn defended himself on Twitter, saying that he's had his ideas for a long time, adding, "Use your brain, appreciate art don't discriminate what you don't understand."

Kris followed up the collage with another photo.

"I managed to not cry today in taping, listened to praise music on the road, then I had work to fulfill when I got home, but after reading the beautiful sentiments in the card from my @kristvofficial_ig family, bumigay na ako (I gave in), the teardrops quietly fell... "Pinky's been looking for low stress, creative outlets for me because she knows I still need that part of me. My family joins me in THANKING all of you for your prayers for my good health. Super TOUCHING & ENCOURAGING.

"Now I'll go up to my 2 sons, the 2 most important reasons why I'm prioritizing my good health. I need a few days off line, just to start getting used to the low key life... Nagpaalam para di kayo mag worry. (I informed you guys ahead of time so you won't worry.) Remember #LoveLoveLove," she said.

Last Tuesday, March 8, Kris announced that she was taking time off from showbiz to concentrate on her sons Josh and Bimby, attend to her other businesses, and take some rest due to her health. The TV host-actress has been experiencing elevated blood pressure.

"Our relationship as a family started October 28, 1996 and it will soon end this March 23, 2016. A total of 10,354 days working for ABS-CBN, my life's most fulfilling professional journey because of your love, acceptance, and loyalty," Kris said.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN issued a statement regarding Kris taking time off from showbiz: "We respect and support Kris Aquino’s decision to take a break from showbusiness and prioritize her health and spend quality time with her kids," said the network in a statement.

WATCH: First look at Spider-Man in 'Captain America: Civil War'

MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – This is not a drill: Spider-Man is indeed going to appear in Captain America: Civil War!

The big reveal, showing Spider-Man in action, was made in a brand-new trailer for the upcoming Marvel film, which will see a division of the Avengers into two factions, with Captain America and Iron Man pitted against each other due to disagreement over a so-called Superhuman Registration Act.

There’s more mayhem in the footage previewed in the new trailer, but everything seems to pale in comparison with one scene. Tony Stark shouts, "Underroos!" and then Spidey takes Cap's shield with his web.

It appears also that Spidey is wearing a suit that's a throwback to the 1967 cartoon series, as The Verge notes, "The costume's red and blues are bright and flat, and the eyes animate like a cartoon. Even the small details match, like how the blue underarm patch ends at the elbow joint and the red boot stops at the calf."

Even though he’s a Marvel hero, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has long been the licensed property of Sony Pictures. But now, it appears that Sony and Marvel Studios (a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios) have really made good on their deal to have Spidey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, it will be quite the epic face-off between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.

It was previously announced in February 2015 by Marvel Studios that Spider-Man will appear in a film produced by their studio under an exceptional deal. (READ: You'll soon see Spider-Man in Marvel movies)

Bob Iger, the chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company said in a Marvel news release, "Spider-Man is one of Marvel's great characters, beloved around the world. We're thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building."

In the same release, Doug Belgrad, the president of the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, added, "Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future."

A new Peter Parker was also unveiled in June 2015: Tom Holland, who had taken over the role from his fellow British actor, Andrew Garfield. According to reports, the actor is expected to play the iconic hero in Civil War prior to the 2017 reboot of the Spider-Man films. (READ: Tom Holland cast as the new Spider-Man)
