Her followers have been sending out words of encouragement to her on social media.

A number of fans, meanwhile, hit actor Paul Salas, Barbie's rumored ex-boyfriend. Paul and Barbie have been linked in the past but never confirmed the status of their relationship.

Paul, son of former Universal Motions dancer Jim Salas, was in the spotlight last year after an online word war between him and Daniel Padilla on social media

Paul has yet to comment on Barbie's posts, but his close friend, GMA 7 actor Kristopher Martin, posted a series of tweets, apparently alluding to the issue. The tweets have also since been deleted.

In one post, he wrote: "Wag dumating sa point na maninira ka ng buhay ng tao. Kung totoo man o hindi yung nangyari, problema niyo yan. Di kailangan ipaalam sa buong mundo para kumuha ng sympathy."

(I hope you won't reach the point you'll destroy a person's life. Whether it happened or not, that's your problem. You do not need to tell the whole world just to get sympathy.)

In another post, he also said: "There's (sic) always two sides of the story

Fans reacted to the posts and Kristopher explained his side.

MANILA, Philippines – Twenty-one years ago, on the night of July 16, 1997, Sisters Marijoy, 21, and Jacqueline Chiong, 23, disappeared while waiting for their ride home outside a mall in Cebu City. A few days later, a heavily-decomposed body, believed to have been Marijoy, was found in a ravine in the nearby town of Carcar.

Jacqueline's body, to this day, is still missing.

What soon followed was a media frenzy that was hailed the "trial of the century." Eight men were arrested for the crime, 7 were convicted, while 1 turned state-witness. Their purported ringleader was Francisco Juna "Paco" Larrañaga, then a 19-year-old and scion of the prominent Osmeña clan.

While Larrañaga admits that he built a reputation as a bad boy of Cebu — having been involved in brawls and other scuffles — he denies involvement in the murder. Larrañaga claims he was in Quezon City the night the Chiong sisters were abducted – a claim that was backed up by his classmates, teachers, and even airline personnel.

A Cebu court convicted Larrañaga and 6 others in 1999. The Supreme Court upheld this decision 5 years later in 2005. They were sentenced to death by legal injection.

By 2006, the death penalty was abolished in the country. In 2009, Larrañaga was transferred to Spain on the basis of a standing agreement between the Philippine and Spanish governments. Spain is the native country of Larrañaga's father.

Thelma Chiong, mother of the two sisters, decried these developments in the case.

Fillmmakers Michael Collins and Marty Syjuco, who is related to Larrañaga by affinity, plead Paco's case in the 2011 documentary Give Up Tomorrow. At the center of the film is a young man put behind bars by an allegedly twisted criminal justice system. The trial, according to the United Nations Commision on Human Rights, ran against the principles of fairness and justice.

Give Up Tomorrow, will stream online for free on July 16 on Rappler. It will be available on demand by July 17. – Rappler.com

THANK YOU. Kris Aquino thanks Neri Naig for the support she gave to her even if they don't know each other well. File photo by Rob Reyes/Rappler/Instagram/@mrsnerimiranda

MANILA, Philippines – Kris Aquino thanked actress Neri Naig Miranda for a seemingly random message she shared about the "Queen of All Media" on Sunday, July 16.

In a post, Neri said she was affected by the attention Kris wsa getting, recalling the time when she was just starting and saw how many people would try to stick to Kris because of her popularity. She also said that whether people are annoyed or amused, Kris has made her mark.

"Nakakalungkot lang din na may mga taong tinalikuran siya. Di kami close ni Ms Kris. Malamang di niya ako maalala na nag artista, hehe! (It's sad that many people have turned their back on her. Ms. Kris and I are not close. She might not even remember me anymore as an actress.)

"Pero marami akong naririnig na mabait siyang boss at matulungin siya. Pero yung ibang natulungan niya, tinalikuran na lang siya at parang hindi na siya kilala," Neri wrote.

(But I've heard a lot of stories that she's a very nice boss and helps a lot. But the others she helped, they just turned their back on her, pretending they do not know her.)

Neri talked about the importance of gratitude and loyalty, as well as of love and friendship. She recalled there was a time when no one wanted to lend her a dress for an event because she was an unknown actress.

Kinakaya niya lahat. Sa lahat ng mga may time na mabasa to at di inantok, hehe! Artista ka man o hinde, boss ka man o simpleng empleyado, be compassionate. Lagi nilang sinasabi na bilog daw ang mundo. Walang masamang maidudulot ang pagiging mabuti sa kapwa.

A post shared by Neri Miranda (@mrsnerimiranda) on Jul 15, 2018 at 10:00am PDT

Kris said she was thankful for Neri's kind words.

"I was taught by mom - walk away when you are on top... I wasn't given that option so I rebuilt it. And I learned a very important lesson- never go back to what had already broken you..." Kris said.

She also said that Neri is very much welcome to raid her closet.

Kris reiterated she's not running for any position, adding that she has just closed 3 contracts. She was responding to a comment accusing Neri of proping Kris up in time for the elections.

She thanked Neri again, saying: "Wala ako ever nagawa para sa'yo and yet tumayo ka ngayon para sa'kin. (I have not done anything for you and yet you stood up up for me.) You have my eternal gratitude."

MANILA, Philippines – In case you've missed it, Queer Eye is coming back for a third season, but instead of staying in Georgia – which has been their home base for the past 2 season – the show is headed to brand new territory: Kansas City, Missouri.

Of course, the Fab 5 will all be working their magic again in season 3: Antoni Porowski (food), Bobby Berk (interior design), Karamo Brown (culture), Tan France (fashion), and Jonathan Van Ness (grooming).

That the show got greenlit for another season is no surprise. A show featuring 5 gay men making over a bunch of clueless straight dudes certainly has its place in the entertainment industry – as proven by the success of the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy in the early 2000s. (READ: 'Queer Eye' is back and is ready to save us from ourselves)

But since it debuted in February, the new Queer Eye has proven to be more than just a make over show – with the transformations changing not only the appearances and lives of their subjects, but their communities as well. The show also goes intersectional as it discusses issues like race, religion, gender identity, and sexuality with sensitivity and heart. All that, plus the irresistible new Fab 5 has made the show a runaway hit. (READ: Queer and facing rejection? The Fab 5 have something to tell you)

It’s been quite an exciting couple of weeks for the Fab 5 and their fans. Aside from the season 3 news, the show also received Emmy nominations in 4 categories: Structured Reality Program, Casting, Picture Editing, and Cinematography.

All the good news led to the purest reaction from Jonathan, who also received an Emmy nomination for his web show Gay of Thrones.

An Instagram video shows the moment Jonathan found out about his nominations, which leads to him crying happy tears as his fellow Queer Eye stars enclose him in what looks like a very reassuring group hug.

Videos like these may be just enough to tide fans over until Queer Eye season 3 debuts. While production already started last July 16, it’ll be a while before the show airs. It's set to premiere on Netflix in 2019, though no date has been specified yet. – Rappler.com

THEY'RE BACK. Tommy Pickles and the gang return for more adventures. Image from the Rugrats' Facebook page

MANILA, Philippines – A whole new generation of kids (and kids at heart) will soon be going on adventures with Tommy Pickles and the gang.

Nickelodeon and Paramount pictures announced Monday, July 16 (early Tuesday, July 17 in the Philippines), plans to relaunch the iconic kids’ program.

Variety reports that Rugrats got a 26-episode order from Nickelodeon and the go-signal for a live-action film with CGI characters from Paramount Players.

Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó, and Paul Germain, the show’s original executive producers, will be reprising their behind-the-scene roles.

“What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals,” Variety quoted Sarah Levy, Viacom Media Networks and Nickelodeon interim president Sarah Levy as saying.

“Kids who grew up with Tommy Pickles and the Rugrats crew will now be able to share that experience with their own children,” said Paramount Players president Brian Robbins.

Rugrats is about the adventures – both imagined and real – of Tommy Pickles, a one-year-old baby, and his playmates Chuckie, Phil and Lol, baby brother Dil, cousin Angelica, Chuckie’s sister Kim, and Angelica’s frenemy Susie.

To date, at least 3 movies under the Rugrats franchise have been released, with hundreds of television episodes still being aired and syndicated.

Rugrats is the latest Nickelodeon show that’s set to return to the small and big screens. Nickelodeon had earlier announced plans to bring back Blue’s Clues. It also aired a Hey Arnold! special in 2017 with plans to release specials based on other Nick classics – Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim.

No date for the series and movie released has been announced. – Rappler.com

Get your geek on: 130,000 head for San Diego Comic-Con

LOS ANGELES, USA – Desk jockeys in eye-wateringly tight spandex will blur the line between fantasy and reality this week as they invade San Diego for the world's largest celebration of pop culture fandom.

The 49th Comic-Con International will revel in movies, TV and – yes – comic books, as fans in pitch-perfect monster, alien and manga costumes swelter in the southern Californian heat over five surreal days.

Where fandom abounds, controversy is never far behind. And the big bone of contention this year is Disney's decision not to bring its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to Comic-Con, despite a record-breaking year with "Black Panther," "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp."

"It's going to be an interesting year this year," said SyFy Wire editor-in-chief Adam Swiderski in a video preview of the Wednesday, July 18, to Sunday, July 22, get-together at the city's harborfront convention center.

"A lot of the big players like 'Marvel,' 'Star Wars' and 'Game of Thrones,' who dominated past cons, aren't going to be there, which gives other properties an opportunity to step into the spotlight."

Since its humble beginnings in 1970 as the Golden State Comic Book Convention, a gathering of a few dozen geeks who swapped superhero magazines, Comic-Con has exploded in popularity.

Each July, it attracts around 130,000 cosplayers, movie executives, sci-fi fans and bloggers to a feast on all manner of panels, screenings and other attractions.

Scare Diego

Described by Rolling Stone as the "Super Bowl of people who don't like watching the Super Bowl," Comic-Con's beating heart is the 6,500-seat Hall H, where a cornucopia of stars hawk their latest work.

Devotees have been known to wait for days to be among the first to get into the sprawling arena, taking turns with family members and other fans for toilet breaks and sleep.

New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. kick off proceedings Wednesday with "Scare Diego," where fans will enjoy insights into "It: Chapter Two" and the frankly terrifying-looking "The Nun."

The convention has traditionally persuaded most of the big studios to turn up for detailed presentations of their highly anticipated slates of upcoming movies – but not this year.

But Disney is presumably saving its biggest treats for its own biennial D23 fan convention, and Universal's segment is dedicated to just two movies – M. Night Shyamalan's "Glass" and David Gordon Green's "Halloween."

Elsewhere, Paramount brings its spinoff Transformers film "Bumblebee" and Fox has a "Deadpool 2" celebration and preview for its "Predator" reboot.

Sony presents "Venom," and the animated "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," neither of which are considered part of the MCU, although Marvel was part of the production team.

That cedes the center stage to Warner Bros., which is expected to pull out all the stops in its two-hour Saturday spot.

The schedule is kept tightly under wraps, but insiders say there will almost certainly be thrills and spills from "Aquaman," "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," the new "Fantastic Beasts" movie and "Shazam!"

'Crazy busy'

"This is a fun room. It's going to be crazy busy for Warner Bros., like it always is," said James Riley of the SDConCast podcast.

"But without the pull of the evening Marvel panel to generate such a fervor for the line... we have a feeling this is actually going to be an easy day to get into Hall H."

The television side of the Comic-Con gets increasingly bigger as the stars follow the voluminous torrent of cash into TV productions funded on a scale never seen before.

This year's Hall H is expected to be more notable than ever for its small-screen content, despite the absence of HBO's big-hitters.

"Several other networks will be showing off new and returning series in a hope to cut through the cluttered landscape and maintain, or possibly grow, viewership," said Lesley Goldberg of The Hollywood Reporter.

AMC has the pick of the convention with a debut appearance from "Better Call Saul" alongside a 10th anniversary reunion panel for "Breaking Bad" and a discussion on acclaimed graphic novel adaption "Preacher."

"The Walking Dead," the most successful show in US cable television history, is back ahead of season 9, expected to debut in October, and there is a panel for its sister show, "Fear the Walking Dead."

Other studios plying their TV wares include YouTube Originals and Fox, while SyFy stages what promises to be an emotional farewell to the "Sharknado" franchise.

Marvel's movie people might be largely absent, but the studio boasts numerous panels and other event for its TV output, including "Cloak & Dagger," "Iron Fist," and "Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther's Quest." – Rappler.com

Cardi B leads nominations at MTV Video Music Awards 2018

TEN NOMINATIONS. Rapper Cardi B leads the MTV Video Music Awards 2018 with 10 nominations. File photo by Kena Betancur/AFP

NEW YORK, USA – Fast-rising rapper Cardi B on Monday, July 16 topped nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards, where Jay-Z and Beyonce's ornate work shot at the Louvre and the politically charged "This is America" also enjoyed recognition.

Cardi B, who in little more than a year has become one of the most prominent women in the male-dominated world of hip-hop, received 10 nominations for the awards show that will take place on August 20 in New York.

The Bronx native born as Belcalis Almanzar was in the running in both hip-hop and Latin categories as well as Artist of the Year and Best New Artist.

The 25-year-old, who recently became a mother, was nominated for Video of the Year as the featured artist on "Finesse" by funk revivalist Bruno Mars. The video pays tribute to "In Living Color," the trailblazing African American television comedy show of the early 1990s.

Cardi B stormed into pop culture prominence last year with "Bodak Yellow," a song in which she touches on her former life making ends meet as a stripper, but was controversially passed over at the latest Grammy Awards – which Mars dominated.

Beyonce and Jay-Z were nominated for 8 awards, all for "Apeshit," the meticulously attired and tightly choreographed production shot at the Louvre, opening with music's first couple standing like a painting in front of the Mona Lisa.

"Apeshit" was part of the surprise album "Everything is Love" by "The Carters," who celebrated their marriage in soulful hip-hop after a rough patch that was thoroughly aired in previous music.

Childish Gambino and Drake each received seven nominations. Childish Gambino, the hip-hop alter ego of actor Donald Glover, received all his nods for "This is America," his much-discussed meditation on the contemporary political landscape of the United States.

The video for "This is America," directed by Hiro Murai, depicts Glover in acts of violence that reflect gun massacres and racism in the United States, complemented with dancing in homage to African traditions.

Recognizing activism

"This is America" was also in the running for best Video With a Message as MTV for the second straight year tried to capture the political moment by honoring works with an activist bent.

Other contenders in the category include rapper Logic's "1-800-273-8255," named for an anti-suicide help number and featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid, and feminist singer Janelle Monae's "Pynk," whose video depicts her at a slumber party with other women bonding over a shared love of their vaginas.

Drake, rarely seen as a political artist, was nominated for Video With a Message for "God's Plan," in which he doles out charity money, while emerging Canadian singer Jessie Reyez is in the running for "Gatekeeper," a #MeToo-era song about an established music producer who tries to pressure her into sex.

Despite the serious side, the MTV Video Music Awards is best known for made-for-the-cameras pop culture moments with less attention paid to who ultimately wins than the music industry's Grammys.

Previous spectacles at the VMAs have included Lady Gaga sporting a dress made of meat, Britney Spears and Madonna locking lips and Kanye West declaring his aspirations for the White House.

Like other awards shows, MTV has been coping with declining viewership as audiences are increasingly spoiled for choice on what to watch.

FRESH FACE. Maya Hawke joins Joe Keery and the rest of the 'Stranger Things' cast for season 3. Screenshot from YouTube.com/NewonNetflix

MANILA, Philippines – The first teaser trailer for Stranger Things season 3 is out, but instead of showing the old gang and the usual Hawkins haunts, the video decides to advertise the brand new Starcourt Mall.

Released by Netflix on July 16, the video comes neon '80s graphics, a boppy synth-pop background track, and a cheesy narration that fans can mine for clues to the upcoming season.

The trailer features Joe Keery as fan favorite Steve, who has found a job as an ice cream man at Scoops Ahoy. We also get our first look at Maya Hawke as Robin, Steve’s Scoops Ahoy co-worker, and the newest member of the Stranger Things squad.

No release date has been revealed, though the end of the trailer says that Starcourt Mall – and Stranger Things season 3 – are coming next summer. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – Claire Foy and her powerful portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II may not be coming back for the third season of The Crown, but the role seems to be in good hands with Olivia Colman.

On July 16, Netflix released a first look at the actress as Queen Elizabeth, donning the monarch’s signature curls and pearls while sipping tea and, by the looks of it, thinking of matters of great importance.

The Crown season 3 will cover events surrounding Britain’s royal family from 1964 to the early '70s. The time jump in the series led to the rather bold choice to replace the principal cast entirely.

Along with Colman, Tobiaz Menzies will be playing Prince Philip, who was originally played by Matt Smith. Meanwhile, Helena Bonham-Carter will be playing the queen’s sister Princess Margaret, and Ben Daniels will be playing Margaret’s husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones.

The Crown season 3 will premiere in 2019. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – More often than not, reuniting with an ex means feelings – whether in the form of high drama, awkward attempts to be friendly, or just a tension in the air so thick you can cut through it with a knife.

For Callalily, it also means great music video material.

In the recently-released video for their song, “Ex,” the band brought in 4 real-life former couples to meet again.

The initial awkwardness and tension when the exes first see each other is relatable and maybe slightly cringey, but it soon gives way to lighthearted banter and the light conversation between two people who loved each other once – and probably still do.

One ex-couple was even able to float the idea of getting back together as the woman admits that she still loves her former flame.

At the end of the video, Callalily reassures viewers: “No hearts were broken in the making of this film.” – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury was truly an inspired casting choice, and the newly-released full trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody proves it.

20th Century Fox released the video on July 17, and it shows snippets of the film all set to a chilling blend of “We Are The Champions” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Rami is practically unrecognizable in his portrayal of Freddie, almost as if he has come back to life – which makes the film all the more exciting.

Bohemian Rhapsody centers on the flamboyant Queen frontman whose personal life was as colorful and storied as his stage presence. It also tells the story of Queen and their journey to becoming one of the most iconic rock groups of all time.

The film also stars Lucy Boynton as Freddie’s lifelong partner Mary Austin, Gwilym Lee as Queen guitarist Brian May, Ben Hardy as drummer Roger Taylor, and Joseph Mazzello as bassist John Deacon.

Bohemian Rhapsody opens in Philippine cinemas on November 7. – Rappler.com

NEW YORK, USA – Pop legend Cher on Tuesday, July 17 announced an album of Abba covers as she stars in a film sequel to Mamma Mia!, the musical inspired by the iconic Swedish group.

In a fresh burst of activity by the 72-year-old singer and actress, Cher said that her creative spirit was rekindled after singing one of the signature tunes on "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again," which is coming out this week.

"After I did 'Fernando,' I thought it would be really fun to do an album of Abba songs, so I did," Cher said on the NBC television daytime show Today. (WATCH: Cher takes on Abba in ‘Mamma Mia' sequel)

"It's not what you think of when you think of Abba, because I did it in a different way," Cher said without revealing a tracklist or release date.

{source} {/source}

The album would be Cher's first studio work since the dance music-driven 2013 album Closer to the Truth. The former half of folk duo Sonny and Cher enjoyed a career revival in the 1990s and holds the record for the longest gap between number-one songs on the US chart at nearly 25 years.

Cher in recent years has mostly concentrated on a residency show in Las Vegas. She had not appeared in a film since providing her voice to a lion in the 2011 movie Zookeeper.

The original Mamma Mia! stage musical and then film weaves together Abba songs to tell the story of Sophie, who plans her wedding on a Greek island alongside her free-spirited mother, Donna, and sets out to identify who her father is, with comic results.

For the sequel, Cher depicts the mother of Donna, played again by Meryl Streep, as she figures out how to act like a grandmother.

The film comes shortly after Abba itself unveiled new music, 35 years after the last single by the godparents of bubble-gum pop. – Rappler.com

NEW YORK, USA – In Marvel's massively successful Black Panther film released this year, one of the major surprises was how the superhero's sister, tech genius Shuri, stole the show. Now, she is getting her own comic book series.

Marvel Comics has announced a spin-off series, to begin in October, in which Black Panther is lost on a mission to space, and Shuri is looked upon to step up to fill the void left by her big brother in their mythical home nation Wakanda.

"The world fell in love with Shuri in the movie. Now, the Black Panther's techno-genius sister launches her own adventures," the publisher said, confirming news first published by news site Bustle.

British-Guyanese actress Letitia Wright earned praise for her portrayal of Shuri in the smash hit film, which critics agree was a groundbreaking moment for blacks on the silver screen.

While Shuri is not the first black heroine in the Marvel universe – Storm, one of the X-Men, has been around for decades – entire books dedicated to black female characters are rare.

Female Nigerian-American sci-fi author Nnedi Okorafor will write "Shuri." She is already working for Marvel on its "Wakanda Forever" series, which focuses on the Dora Milaje, the all-female special forces unit in the fictional nation.

According to Box Office Mojo, Black Panther has taken in more than $1.34 billion, making it number nine on the all-time box office list. Avatar is the all-time champion at nearly $2.8 billion. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – Former Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams revealed on July 17 that she is seeking help for her mental health issues.

“I recently listened to the same advice I have given to thousands around the world and sought help from a great team of healthcare professionals,” Michelle wrote in an Instagram post.

“Today I proudly, happily, and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need,” she added.

The singer did not specify what kind of treatment she is getting, though TMZ says that she has checked into a mental health facility outside of Los Angeles.

Michelle performed alongside Beyonce and Kelly Rowland in Destiny’s Child in the late '90s to early 2000s.

She revealed her struggles with depression in October 2017. In an interview on The Talk, she shared that she had suffered through depression at the peak of Destiny’s Child’s success, and had even become suicidal at one point.

“I didn’t know until I was in my 30s what was going on. I just thought it was growing pains,” Michelle said.

She recalled how she struggled to explain her depression to Destiny’s Child’s manager, Matthew Knowles (Beyonce’s father), and said that she wants to “normalize” the discussion around mental health.

“I felt that intentions were good, and I just kind of want to normalize this conversation…I want to normalize this discussion,” Michelle said. – Rappler.com

MANILA, Philippines – JM de Guzman believes his Araw Gabi leading lady Barbie Imperial and actor Paul Salas will figure things out soon enough.

Over the weekend, fans of Barbie were alarmed when she tweeted and later deleted photos that showed apparent bruises on her body. The Pinoy Big Brother alumna wrote: "Girls, just because mahal mo ang isang tao pero sinasaktan kayo physically, hindi pwedeng patuloy yan." (Girls just because you love the person, but that person harms you physically, it's not right.)

"HINDI TAMA MANAKIT NG BABAE PHYSICALLY." (It's not right to harm a girl physically.)

Although she did not mention any names, her fans accused Paul of hurting her.

In an interview with reporters during the set visit of his new movie Kung Paano Siya Nawala on Tuesday, July 17, JM said: "Ayoko muna siguro mag-comment doon sa isyu nila pero sa tingin ko, nahahandle naman nila nang maayos."

(I do not want to comment about their issues because I think they can handle this by themselves well enough.)

When asked if Barbie was going through anything, JM dodged the question but said he's sure Barbie would be able to fix whatever problem she is going through.

Paul has yet to comment on the issue but his friend, actor Kristopher Martin, posted a series of tweets alluding to the issue. Paul's father, former Universal Motions Dancer Jim Salas, also posted a cyptic message on Instagram.

The post read: "Don't play the victim to circumstances you created." The caption also read: "God knows."

MANILA, Philippines – Kris Aquino recently opened up about her “complicated relationship” with her older brother, former president Noynoy Aquino, admitting that they had a 3-month rift while thanking him for being there for her older son Josh.

“My brother and I have had a complicated relationship, siguro po kasi only son & middle child sya, bunso ako (maybe because he’s the only son and middle child, while I’m the youngest),” Kris said in a Wednesday, July 18 Instagram post.

3 months po kaming hindi okay. Kasalanan ko po yun... Naipit yung 2 boys ko- alam nilang di okay kaya pinili na wag dumalaw at wag iwan si mama (We weren’t okay for 3 months. It was my fault, my two boys got caught in between. They knew we were not okay so they chose not to see him and not leave their mom),” she added, saying that Josh suffered from this the most because Noynoy is always there during hospital visits.

“Thank you Mom, from heaven I know you made this possible,” she added.

Kris has generally been a vocal supporter of her brother throughout his presidency and after, though the outspoken host is sometimes at odds with his political allies.

In April, Kris slammed reporter Korina Sanchez– wife of one of Noynoy's closest allies, Mar Roxas – for a feature that Korina did on Kris' ex-husband James Yap. Kris has since apologized to her brother as well as Mar Roxas and even President Rodrigo Duterte for her rant. – Rappler.com

Singer Cliff Richard wins BBC privacy case, sparking media alarm

LONDON, United Kingdom– Veteran British pop star Cliff Richard won a privacy case against the BBC on Wednesday, July 18 after it broadcast live on television a police raid on his home, in a ruling the broadcaster warned threatened press freedom.

High Court Judge Anthony Mann said the BBC had infringed Richard's rights in a "serious" and "somewhat sensationalist way" and awarded him at least £210,000 ($274,000 or 236,000 euros) in damages.

The 77-year-old singer, who was never charged with any offense, was applauded by fans as he left court, and they sang his hit song "Congratulations".

Britain's first home-grown pop star later said senior managers at the BBC "have to carry the can".

"If heads roll then maybe it's because it was deserved," he told ITV News. "It's too big a decision to be made badly. It was nonsense."

The BBC said it would consider an appeal, saying the ruling "represents a dramatic shift against press freedom and the long-standing ability of journalists to report on police investigations".

Richard's home was raided in 2014 as part of an investigation into an allegation of sexual assault involving a young boy dating back to the 1980s.

The BBC's live coverage, including a helicopter, was picked up around the world, but the singer was never arrested or charged and was told in 2016 there was insufficient evidence against him.

"My life was effectively turned upside down and my reputation, worldwide, was unnecessarily damaged," Richard said at the start of the case.

'Sorry for the distress'

The BBC heard about the investigation by South Yorkshire Police and cut a deal in which they agreed to delay breaking the story in return for a tip-off about the raid on Richard's home.

The judge awarded £190,000 ($248,307.20) in general damages plus another £20,000 ($26,140.04) "aggravated damages" because the BBC nominated the story for a "Scoop of the Year" award, which it did not win.

Richard is also entitled to further sums for the financial impact of the case, which will be decided another time.

The police force has already agreed to pay Richard £400,000 ($522,752.00) after settling a claim.

In a statement, the BBC said it was "sorry for the distress Sir Cliff has been through".

It admitted there were "things we would have done differently, however the judge has ruled that the very naming of Sir Cliff was unlawful".

"So even had the BBC not used helicopter shots or ran the story with less prominence, the judge would still have found that the story was unlawful; despite ruling that what we broadcast about the search was accurate," it said.

The ruling "will make it harder to scrutinize the conduct of the police and we fear it will undermine the wider principle of the public's right to know", it said.

'Shockingly bad'

"We don't believe this is compatible with liberty and press freedoms," the statement said, adding that it was "looking at an appeal".

Tony Gallagher, the editor in chief of Britain's best-selling The Sun tabloid, also railed against the "shockingly bad" ruling.

"Victory for (alleged) criminals and money-grabbing lawyers. Terrible for media," he tweeted.

In the House of Commons, an MP suggested formally changing the law to make it illegal for the media to name suspects until they are charged.

But Prime Minister Theresa May, who looked into the issue in her previous job as interior minister, expressed skepticism.

She noted "there may well be cases where the publication of a name enables other victims to come forward and therefore, to strengthen the case against an individual".

She said it was an "issue for careful judgement" in which both police and media must recognize their responsibilities.

Richard, who burst onto the pop scene in the late 1950s, is the third biggest-selling artist in British singles chart history, behind The Beatles and Elvis Presley.

His hits include "The Young Ones", "Living Doll", "Summer Holiday", "Mistletoe And Wine" and "The Millennium Prayer".

There has been a wave of accusations of historical sex abuse against prominent figures in Britain since 2012, when the late BBC presenter Jimmy Savile was revealed to be a serial paedophile. – Rappler.com
