LOS ANGELES, USA – The eldest son of actor Michael Douglas has been released from prison after serving seven years for drug trafficking, and is now in a halfway house in New York, US media reported on Monday.

Cameron Douglas, 37, was sentenced in 2010 to five years in prison for possession and sale of methamphetamine. His sentence was extended by two years in solitary confinement after he admitted smuggling drugs into the prison.

Cameron, Michael Douglas's son with his first wife Diandra Luker, was originally set to be released in 2018 but is currently living at a rehabilitation center in New York, E! Online and ABC News reported.

Cameron Douglas now plans to write a tell-all book describing his life as heir to one of the most respected Hollywood dynasties and how drugs led him to prison, according to the New York Post's gossip section Page Six.

The Oscar-winning actor visited his son in prison regularly. He criticized the US penal system when accepting an Emmy Award for playing the role of the pianist Liberace in the TV movie Behind the Candelabra in 2013.

"At first I was certainly disappointed with my son, but I’ve reached a point now where I’m disappointed with the system," he said. "If you happen to have a slip, they punish you. In my son’s case, he has spent almost two years in solitary confinement."

The actor's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from AFP.  Rappler.com

'The Shallows' Review: Bloody entertainment

Blake Lively in 'The Shallows.' Photo courtesy of Columbia Pictures

The title of the movie obviously refers to that part of the ocean where med school drop-out Nancy (Blake Lively) is matched with a human-hating shark.

However, it can also refer to why the movie, set into action with such minimalist flair by Unknown (2011), Non-Stop (2014) and Run All Night (2015) director Jaume Collet-Serra, is such a hoot.

The Shallowsis admittedly shallow – but effective entertainment. Its value hinges on its capacity to deliver the most basic of thrills without the fervent need to expound on anything. All it needs is a girl, a buoy, and a sea with a shark and every other underwater danger possible that separates them.

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EgdxIlSuB70" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

Tourist turned victim

The Shallows starts off like Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours (2010), and all the other tourist-turned-victim flicks. Here, the protagonist is depicted as a carefree adventurer who is out to conquer the world – only to end up in pain and suffering all for everybody else’s entertainment.

Nancy’s on her way to a secluded Mexican beach via a rundown jeep driven by a chatty local (Óscar Jaenada), while she exchanges text messages with a hungover friend who can’t accompany her.

She gets there safe and sound and sees that the place is heaven on Earth – a piece of uncelebrated real estate that is postcard-perfect from every angle. Without even a warm-up, she hops on her surfboard and surfs the afternoon away.

It isn’t cramps that gets her, or the pair of suspicious happy-go-lucky surfers that she meets mid-ocean. It is the bloodthirsty shark that is disturbed from its sumptuous meal of decomposing whale carcass by Nancy’s curiosity. The shark bites a bit of Nancy’s leg, forcing her to take refuge on top of a rock alongside an injured sea gull.

Now it’s just up to her and her indefatigable will to survive that will save her from being turned into fish food.

Connect-the-dots

The screenplay by Anthony Jaswinski gives Nancy just enough character for the audience to root for her.

Through the pictures she’s stocked on her smartphone and the video calls she does with her dad and sister from faraway Texas, the audience gets a glimpse of the trauma she harbors and the people she holds dear – all of which the film efficiently utilizes as both emotional and thematic fuel for her desire to keep herself alive.

The film cleverly doesn’t burden Nancy with anything more than what the audience needs to know. The story is as thin and tight as possible.

Everything is focused on establishing how spectacular Nancy’s beach paradise is with the help of cinematographer Flavio Labiano’s gorgeous camerawork, then teases its way towards a by-the-numbers sequence of how the film’s heroine will find her way from one spot in the ocean to another without being devoured by her persistent tormentor.

It is mainly a connect-the-dots type of patchwork, with Collet-Serra using Lively, who fits the role like a glove because she is both attractive in a Sports Illustrated-sort of way yet still charismatic enough to be more than just another picture-perfect model. It's the same way he used Liam Neeson in his previous action flicks to represent the middle-aged man who gets cornered by evildoers to commit superhuman feats of wit and strength.

This time, Collet-Serra turns Lively into that symbol of human stubbornness and ingenuity, one that not even the most rabid and furious force of nature can ever underestimate.

Primal violence

Despite its point-blank simplicity, the film feels strangely sophisticated, especially in the way it depicts a solitary lady who is dealt with everything a misanthropic imagination can conjure for torture-for-entertainment’s sake.

The Shallows is disturbingly engrossing. It is definitely designed to test its audience’s endurance for everything grisly and gross. Yet it is almost impossible not to look with utter awe at how so much primal violence can seamlessly blend with all the glossy sexuality and beauty the film was able to evoke. – Rappler.com

LOS ANGELES, USA – Matt Damon's Jason Bourne spy thriller is dominating box offices, taking in a 3rd of all North American receipts in its opening weekend. ([WATCH] Matt Damon returns as 'Jason Bourne': 11 fun facts about the movie)

The film, the 5th in Universal's robust series about a former CIA assassin plagued by amnesia, took in $59.2 million for the 3-day weekend, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations. (READ: 'Jason Bourne' Review: Entertaining even if repetitive)

Bourne– whose director Paul Greengrass had for years insisted he was done with the series – seized the box-office lead from Star Trek Beyond, which took in $24.8 million for a two-week total of $106.5 million.

That Justin Lin science-fiction adventure, which sees the USS Enterprise crew shipwrecked on a hostile planet, made less than half its own opening of the previous weekend.

The raunchy comedy Bad Moms, about 3overstressed and overstretched mothers with dreams of escape, came in third in its opening weekend, taking in $23.8 million. The STX Entertainment film stars Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell.

Universal Pictures' The Secret Life of Pets came in fourth with $18.9 million for an impressive four-week total of $296.9 million.

The animated comedy, which follows two pet dogs let loose in New York City, features the voices of comedian Louis CK and actor Eric Stonestreet.

And Lights Out, David Sandberg's campy "no-budget" horror film about a haunting by a mysterious creature seen only in the dark, slipped from third to fifth, with $10.8 million. The Warner Brothers film, a feature-length version of an earlier 3-minute short, again stars Sandberg's wife, Lotta Losten.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were:

  • Ice Age: Collision Course ($11 million)
  • Ghostbusters ($10.1 million)
  • Nerve ($9.4 million in its debut week)
  • Finding Dory ($4.3 million)
  • The Legend of Tarzan ($2.5 million)

LOS ANGELES, USA – Jimmy Fallon, host ofThe Tonight Show, will kick off Hollywood's annual awards season as presenter of the 2017 Golden Globes, organizers announced on Tuesday, August 2. (HIGHLIGHTS: Golden Globes 2015)

Fallon is a veteran of the glittering event, having handed out awards in a variety of categories, most recently in 2014. He also hosted the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards.

The 3-hour ceremony airs live on NBC from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on January 8.

"We're thrilled to announce Jimmy as host of the 74th Annual Golden Globes," Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement.

"This is the most spontaneous and uninhibited award show on television, and Jimmy's playful, disarming comedic brilliance makes him the ideal host to enhance and elevate the sense of fun and irreverence that's made the Golden Globes one of the premier events of the entire broadcast year."

True to form, Fallon confirmed his involvement in the awards – organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) – on Twitter with a mischievous swipe at Republican presidental nominee Donald Trump. (WATCH: Jimmy Fallon, teenager are spot on as Donald Trump)

"I'm so excited to be hosting The Golden Globes in January," the comic tweeted.

Fallon's appointment marks a departure for the awards, which have alternated between two hosting choices for the last 7 ceremonies.

British comedian Ricky Gervais, master of ceremonies from 2010-12 and then again earlier this year, earned some praise for his irreverent jokes at the expense of the stars, although he was at times a polarizing presence in the room.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler presented three times from 2013.

The 2016 ceremony pulled in 18.5 million viewers in industry tracker Nielsen's live plus same day ratings.

"Jimmy Fallon is an exceptionally talented and dynamic entertainer and we couldn't be more excited that he’ll be hosting the 2017 Golden Globes," said Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Lorenz Soria.

"His charm, wit and incredible spontaneity will play exceedingly well both to everyone at the show as well as the millions watching at home from around the world."– Rappler.com

LOS ANGELES, USA – The parents of late Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the makers of his automobile after it rolled down the driveway of his home and killed him.

The Russian-born actor died instantly when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee pinned him against a concrete mailbox at his house in Los Angeles on June 19, according to police.

"It is wrong, it's against nature when the parents bury (their) own child," Yelchin's father Victor said at a news conference announcing the wrongful death lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Fiat Chrysler announced a recall of the car and other models in April after the US auto safety regulator said 117 crashes and 28 injuries had been linked to the vehicles rolling off freely when drivers thought they had locked them in "park."

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the fault was related to the design of the cars' automatic transmission gear shifts.

Victor Yelchin and his wife Irina alledge that the Jeep and its transmission system "possessed one or more defects in design, manufacture or otherwise which were known, or should have been known," according to the lawsuit seen by AFP.

According to the document, Yelchin was "crushed and lingered alive for some time, trapped and suffocating until his death."

FCA's April recall covers one million vehicles, including 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees, and the company said last month it was investigating the actor's death.

It reiterated its condolences to Yelchin's family on Tuesday but has maintained it is "premature" to speculate on the cause of the actor's death.

Yelchin's parents last week filed documents asking to become administrators of their son's $1.4 million estate, as he left no will.

The actor, who was 27, was best known for his role as Chekov in the recent series of Star Trek films.

But he appeared in almost 50 films from 2000, including Alpha Dog, Terminator Salvation and April's critically acclaimed Green Room.

He was supposed to meet up with friends for rehearsal the day of his death, police said. When he did not show up, his friends went to his home and found him dead by his vehicle.

An only child, Yelchin was six months old when he moved with his family to the United States in September 1989. His mother was a figure skating choreographer and his father as a skating coach. – Rappler.com

Movie reviews: What critics are saying about 'Suicide Squad'

MANILA, Philippines – Suicide Squad has assembled the worst heroes ever, making the movie pack a lot of star power with the A-list and Oscar awardees in the cast.

Like most comic book movies, the hype surrounding the film was on fever pitch – it really seemed to be not your typical DC Comics film. Jared Leto as the Joker, in particular, was said to have invested a lot of himself in his interpretation of the iconic supervillain – and everyone was excited.

The trailers were filled with a lot of sass from Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Slipknot (Adam Beach), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), and El Diablo (Jay Hernandez) – set to some badass music, too.

Then, the critics saw it – and some of them ravaged any hope that this movie is as good as it had sounded on paper or with the marketing machine. "Dead on arrival," "mind-bogglingly stupid," "just bad" – yikes!  Heck, there's even a petition from fans to shut down review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes over the perceived targeted vitriol against DC properties.

Does the Suicide Squad movie have any redeeming quality? Is it still worth it to troop to the cinemas in spite of the bad reviews? It's up to you to decide – but these critics might help:

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/m0Xb9BhfVjY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly

"Writer-director David Ayer (End of Watch) skillfully sets up the film, introducing each of the crazies with caffeinated comic-book energy," wrote Chris Nashawaty for Entertainment Weekly.

But for him, Suicide Squad didn't risk a lot: "The stakes should feel higher. As someone who isn’t fluent in Suicide Squad lore, I can’t imagine there wasn’t a better villain in its back catalog."

What about Jared Leto's Joker? "Still, it’s nothing compared with how wasted Leto’s scene-stealing Joker is. With his toxic-green hair, shiny metal teeth, and demented rictus grin, he’s the most dangerous live wire in the film. But he’s stranded in the periphery.

"For DC, which blew it with Batman v Superman last spring, Suicide Squad is a small step forward. But it could have been a giant leap."

Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

For The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw, Suicide Squad is "a clotted and delirious film, with flashes of preposterous, operatic silliness. But it doesn’t have much room to breathe; there are some dull bits, and Leto’s Joker suffers in comparison with the late Heath Ledger. […] There were some funny touches, mainly from Harley, and from Ike Barinholtz’s corrupt prison guard Griggs."

However, for Bradshaw, it lacked fun: "Suicide Squad promises madness, and a dense downpour of madness is what it delivers. I could have done with more fun and more lightness of touch."

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ASg8ab9vluQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

The Hollywood Reporter's Todd McCarthy also saw promise – but like several other critics, he felt that the movie didn't deliver.

"Part smart-ass genre sendup, part grimy noir that wants to be as dirty as Deadpool but remains constrained by its PG-13 rating, and part short-falling attempt by Warner Bros. to get a big-budget DC Comics mashup right, the film starts with promise but disengages as it loses its creative bearings," he wrote.

"The action of the film’s middle and latter stages is largely set in a gloomy murk that recalls far too many previous dour sci-fi/fantasy films, and by that point, vestiges of the opening stretch’s humor and snap long have fallen by the wayside."

For McCarthy, this DC film turned out to be dull: "Suicide Squad may not quite commit harakiri, but it certainly feels like it’s taken far too many sleeping pills."

Peter Debruge, Variety

Variety's Peter Debruge saw the film's lack of levity as a con. He wrote, "Blame it on Batman, but the DC universe has gotten awfully dark in recent years, especially compared with the candy-colored competition over at Marvel."

"Rather than bringing levity and irreverence to the increasingly unpleasant comic-book sphere, as its psychedelic acid-twisted marketing campaign suggests, Suicide Squad plunges audiences right back into the coal-black world of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, picking up after the Man of Steel’s demise to imagine a government so desperate that its only hope to fight the next 'meta-human' threat is by assembling a team of the gnarliest super-villains around."

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/biaR7ijyzNk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

"Who stole the soul of Suicide Squad?" asked Rolling Stone's Peter Travers – a question to which he offers his own answer: I'd say it's Ayer's willingness to go all limp-d*ck and compromise his hardcore action bona fides for a PG-13 crowdpleaser that would rather ingratiate than cut deep, or even cut at all.

He cited scenes and elements which are "clichés that eat away at the potential in this material."

"Superfreaks become supersweeties and Suicide Squad: Dawn of Dullness (my subtitle) does the impossible. Forget Batman v Superman— at least it tried. This botch job makes Fantastic Four look good."

David Ehrlich, IndieWire

"Just when you think the summer movie season can’t get any worse, along come the 'Worst. Heroes. Ever,'" wrote David Ehrlich for IndieWire.

"And while the film’s official tagline is selling its stars a little bit short (surely last year’s incarnation of The Fantastic Four still holds that dubious distinction), the mundane, milquetoast, and often mind-bogglingly stupid Suicide Squad almost makes good on the threat of its marketing campaign.

"Intended as an antidote to the rest of the DC Cinematic Universe (in that it’s aggressively flippant instead of gravely serious, and merely bad instead of soul-crushingly awful), Suicide Squad promises to flip the script on superhero movies by forcing the audience to root for the bad guys.

"But this is pretty much the only unique and interesting thing about the movie for Ehrlich: "Alas, that wild and crazy idea is the only thing that separates this dank sewer of messy actions beats and misplaced machismo from any of the other films that have come to define its genre."

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3ngQXlRkF7M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair

Richard Lawson, writing for Vanity Fair, called out the movieas "bad. Not fun bad. Not redeemable bad. Not the kind of bad that is the unfortunate result of artists honorably striving for something ambitious and falling short. Suicide Squad is just bad," he wrote.

"It’s ugly and boring, a toxic combination that means the film’s highly fetishized violence doesn’t even have the exciting tingle of the wicked or the taboo. (Oh, how the movie wants to be both of those things.) It’s simply a dull chore steeped in flaccid machismo, a shapeless, poorly edited trudge that adds some mildly appalling sexism and even a soupçon of racism to its abundant, hideously timed gun worship."

Lawson puts his nail in the coffin, describing the film as "ultimately too shoddy and forgettable to even register as revolting. At least revolting would have been something."

However, he still thought that a "noble three" – Will Smith's Deadshot, Viola Davis's Amanda Waller, and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn – gave that "tiny bit of light that dimly bathes those of us in the audience."

Stephanie Zacharek, Time

Time's Stephanie Zacharek didn't mince her words: "Loaded with jokes but devoid of wit, Suicide Squad is dead on arrival."

She later added: "All of Suicide Squad is TMI [too much information], a bunch of character stuff and plot stuff chopped and diced and tossed up on the screen with no regard for plot or logic or mood, as if we’re just not supposed to care about those things anymore."

Are there any redeeeming qualities? For Zacharek, it's Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, whose "entrance is the best moment in Suicide Squad. After that, you can leave."

"Robbie is a criminally appealing actress, likable in just about every way, but that intro aside, Suicide Squad doesn’t serve her well. It serves no one well, least of all its audience."

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Npleqfy_8Zs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

Brian Truitt, USA Today

Contrary to what Rolling Stone said above, for USA Today's Brian Truitt, "the fantastic felons of Suicide Squad have got soul and they’re superbad."

"There’s both undeniable sincerity and an over-the-top punk rock vibe to writer/director David Ayer’s completely bonkers ode to supervillains tapped to contribute to the greater good. It helps flesh out the comic-book world of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, plus makes a bunch of obscure outsiders just as engaging and fun to watch as that well-known Dark Knight."

Angie Han, SlashFilm

"If you’re tired of the supreme self-seriousness of the two DC superhero films so far, the good news is that Suicide Squad is definitely having more fun," wrote Angie Han for SlashFilm.

"David Ayer is armed with an obvious but irresistible soundtrack that must have cost Warner Bros. a fortune to put together (yes, “Sympathy for the Devil” is in here, and so is “Bohemian Rhapsody”). The characters come prepared with cheeky, off-color jokes — the kind you’d never catch grim Batman or earnest Superman making."

"And where Zack Snyder’s DC films have worked hard to maintain a sense of “groundedness” despite the fact that Superman is an actual alien, Suicide Squad feels just fine about diving into the stranger corners of the comic book universe. (It’s impossible to avoid going there when one of the characters is an honest-to-God witch, anyway.) Suicide Squad is not especially deep, and doesn’t try to be. It’s just here to have a good time. And it succeeds more often than not."

The cover sparked anger online, with many saying that the cover and the issue's accompanying centerfold – featuring two scantily clad women on a bed being filmed by the band – were misogynistic and objectified women.

Meanwhile, members of Pulp have defended the cover and the centerfold.

Pulp magazine publisher Vernon Go told Rappler through email on August 3, "I would say, as publisher, I felt the images were quite tame and tongue-in-cheek."

On Sud's apologies, Vernon said that he hasn't seen them. He added, "I think they should have more faith in whatever they believe is creative and attractive."

Vernon also tweeted on August 2, denying the claims that the cover was misogynistic: "Photography of the female form that is sexy and provocative has nothing to do with misogyny. It is actual worship of the power of womankind."

Creative Director and Managing Editor Nica Magnaye said on Twitter, "Pulp is, and will always be, straightforward and thought-provoking. People who get offended by it obviously know nothing about it."

MANILA, Philippines –  Stranger Things is one spookiest things to ever hit TV – or rather, internet TV – and everyone can't stop talking about it. It's nostalgic, recalling the adventure and mystery films of the '80s.

In an interview, the stars of the hit Netflix series: Mille Brown (Eleven), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Noah Schnapp (Will), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Joe Keery (Steve), Cade Jones (James), and Peyton Wich (Troy) – plus the creators, the Duffer Brothers – admit that the show is "mysterious" and "scary."

"I'm terrified. Like if anything happens…" Millie aka El/Eleven says, before the radio in the corner of the room emits static and the lights flicker.

Stranger things – well – than Stranger Things happen inside the room, and most of them jolt up from their seats.

Watch the video to see how the cast members react, and we can tell you: it is hilarious.

Guests at the series premiere, too, were pranked:

MANILA, Philippines – Leave it to Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio to pull off a prank – impeccably – on his poor pal and The Wolf of Wall Street co-star Jonah Hill.

According to several entertainment news outlets, Jonah was supposed to meet up with Leo in West Village, New York City, while he was busy fiddling with his phone.

How does a good friend like Leo greet Jonah? No simple nice "hello's" here.

He runs towards Jonah and pretends to be a super-fan wanting to take a picture of his buddy – his phone close to Jonah's face. This appears to rattle Jonah a little bit.

But the little prank fizzles out quickly, and then the two friends hug each other for quite a long time.

This was all caught on camera, as seen in a video obtained by E! News:

MANILA, Philippines – Hearts may have skipped a beat with the Tuesday episode (Wednesday, August 3 in Manila) of America's Got Talent (AGT) when an act went horribly wrong – on live TV!

In his quarterfinals act, AGT contestant and stunt man Ryan Stock put a target in his mouth, as his partner and fiancée Amber Lynn Walker tried to shoot it with a flaming arrow.

But she missed, and as the episode was airing live, the arrow accidentally hit Ryan's neck:

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RmJqXLj4fnA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

He quickly removed the target from his mouth and brushed his neck quickly, as a horrified panel of judges – Mel B, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Simon Cowell – and the audience watched on.

Host Nick Cannon immediately asked him, "Is everything okay? Are you okay?" to which Ryan responds, "I'm okay, I'm okay."

A clip posted on YouTube cuts off right after the shocking portion.

{source}<iframe width="100%" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZMgUUn6-V5A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>{/source}

After the episode, Ryan tweeted, "We had a serious mishap tonight outage live on [AGT]. A very unfortunate mechanical failure but I am very fortunate to walk away from it."

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Conan Stevens, best known for playing Ser Gregor Clegane (a.k.a. the Mountain) on Game of Thrones season 1, has revealed his role on GMA 7's fantaserye Encantadia.

In an interview on Unang Hirit, Wednesday, August 3, Conan said that he will play Vish'ka, the leader of the Askano tribe.

"I'm out of character this time. I'm playing a higante (giant). As you can see, I'm completely away from my usual romcom roles," Conan joked.

"[I'm the] leader of the [barbarian] tribe [called Askano]. And basically, I've lived for hundreds of years and having that ability, I've become the best," he said.

The Askano is a tribe that formerly served the kingdom of Sapiro, where Ybrahim/Ybarro (played by Ruru Madrid) and Prince Raquim (Dingdong Dantes) are from.

Encantadia lead visual artist Noel Flores previously released concept art for Conan's character:

MANILA, Philippines – What a time to be a Potterhead! Plans for a sequel to the Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, has been officially announced by Warner Bros Pictures, with a release scheduled on November 16, 2018.

Director David Yates and Harry Potter creator-turned-screenwriter JK Rowling will return for the sequel, according to an Entertainment Weekly report.

At San Diego Comic-Con last July, director David Yates teased that JK Rowling had already begun work on the sequel's script, saying that the story would take "a whole new direction," as quoted by EW.

"The second movie introduces new characters as [Rowling] builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out… The work is pouring out of her."

The first Fantastic Beasts, starring Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander, is set to hit theaters this November 18 in the US.

Set in 1920s New York City, the film sees Scamander trying to recapture escaped magical creatures from his suitcase.

"They're currently in alien terrain, surrounded by the most vicious creatures on the planet – humans," said the character in a previous trailer.

This is the latest development in the "Wizarding World" of Harry Potter, as the Cursed Child stage play recently premiered in London's West End, with its published rehearsal script selling 2 million copies in the span of only 2 days from July 31. NEW YORK, USA – Britney Spears, who soared to stardom as a teen idol before a highly public fall, is releasing an album one more time.

Spears announced Wednesday, August 3, that her ninth album, Glory, will come out on August 26.

"My new album and the beginning of a new era," Spears wrote on Twitter.

Spears last month released a first song, Make Me..., a steamy track with a touch of tropical house music and a contribution by the rapper G-Eazy.

Glory will be Spears' first album since 2013's Britney Jean, which largely kept her signature pop sound and was her lowest-charting album to date.

The former child star became one of the top-selling artists of the late 1990s with tracks such as ...Baby One More Time and Oops! ... I Did It Again, whose clean-cut pop production belied the undertones of uninhibited teenage sexuality.

But her messy personal life quickly eclipsed her music career. She had a highly public breakup with fellow star Justin Timberlake, married twice in 2005 alone and was caught on camera nearly dropping one of her two children off her lap while driving.

But the now 34-year-old has found more stability with a residency show in Las Vegas, which debuted in late 2013. – Rappler.com

LOS ANGELES, USA – Metal legend Ozzy Osbourne revealed Wednesday, August 3 that he has been undergoing therapy for sex addiction as he tries to reconcile with his wife.

The Black Sabbath singer, whose instantly recognizable voice has driven songs from "Iron Man" to "Crazy Train," went public about the treatment after a hair colorist revealed she was one of his mistresses.

"Over the last six years, I have been dealing with a sex addiction," the 67-year-old English rocker wrote on Facebook.

"Out of bad comes good. Since the press exposed this I have gone into intense therapy," he wrote.

"I am mortified at what my behavior has done to my family. I thank God that my incredible wife is at my side to support me."

{source}<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fozzyosbourne%2Fposts%2F10154466817727318&width=500" width="100%" height="230" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>{/source}

Osbourne has been married for 34 years to Sharon Osbourne, a music manager whose father had worked with Black Sabbath.

She has been a key force in making Ozzy Osbourne a successful solo artist, lining up songwriters and guitarists for him.

She revealed in May that the two had separated but the couple – one of the most enduring in the rock world – later voiced hope for reconciliation. (READ: Sharon Osbourne confirms Ozzy split, looks to new chapter)

Michelle Pugh, a celebrity hair colorist in the Osbournes' adopted hometown of Los Angeles, told People magazine that the rocker pursued her a year after he first went to her for his hair in late 2011.

She described the rocker as "the greatest love of my life."

Osbourne wrote on Facebook: "I'm sorry if Ms. Pugh took our sexual relationship out of context.

"I'd also like to apologize to the other women I have been having sexual relationships with," he said without further detail.

Osbourne struggled for years with drug and alcohol problems and was notorious for his on-stage antics such as biting the head off a bat.

The Osbournes' seemingly stable marital life in Los Angeles became the topic of public fascination in the early 2000s after it was featured on an MTV reality television show. – Rappler.com

Prince tribute concert set for October

TRIBUTE CONCERT. Prince's sister Tyka Nelson announces there will be a tribute concert in October for her brother, who died last April. Photo by Laurent Gillieron/ EPA

NEW YORK, USA – Artists will pay tribute to pop icon Prince with a giant stadium concert in October in his hometown Minneapolis, his family says.

The show will take place on October 13 at the newly built US Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings football team, Prince's sister Tyka Nelson wrote on Facebook.

{source}<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Ftyka.nelson%2Fposts%2F10153817558412005&width=500" width="500" height="199" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>{/source}

The 66,200-capacity stadium, opened on July 22 on the site of the city's former Metrodome, has both seats and LED lighting in purple, the signature color both of the "Purple Rain" singer and the Vikings.

The lineup has not been announced, but Nelson said that tickets would go on sale later in August. Rolling Stone magazine reported that the family wanted Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder to take part.

Nelson said the family would also invite Prince's friends to a private memorial. She wrote last month on Facebook that it would be "a day when we can grieve, share stories and dance together for a man who touched our lives, in so many different ways."

Prince, one of the most influential artists of his generation who popularized the "Minneapolis sound" of infectious funk, died on April 21 from a painkiller overdose at his Paisley Park estate outside the city. (READ: Prince death ruled a painkiller overdose)

The concert would be the only publicly sanctioned memorial event for Prince, who was guarded about his personal life despite his flamboyant stage presence.

His body was cremated and family and friends held a small gathering at Paisley Park shortly after his death, followed by a private service among his Jehovah's Witness religious community.

 Fight over Prince estate

David Bowie, another music legend whose death stunned fans this year, was similarly discreet with his family holding no public events to mourn him.

In contrast, King of Pop Michael Jackson – sometimes described as Prince's rival in the 1980s – was mourned with a star-studded concert in Los Angeles in 2009 with his gold-plated casket in front of the stage.

Perhaps the best-known tribute concert in rock history was for Queen singer Freddie Mercury, who died in 1992 of complications from AIDS. The show, featuring a who's who of stars from Bowie to George Michael to Metallica, was broadcast internationally from London's Wembley Stadium to raise money for AIDS research.

While the financial aspects of the Prince tribute are not yet known, it could be a boon to his family amid questions over the future of his estate.

Prince, who was outwardly a model of health, did not leave a will and had no recognized children. Tyka Nelson is his closest relative and he also had five living half-siblings, but a number of other people have also claimed to be heirs.

The family put a professional administrator in charge of Prince's affairs. A judge in June gave the green light for the service to pursue business deals, saying the estate likely risked a shortfall in cash needed to pay taxes in the wake of Prince's death.

A judge recently ordered genetic testing that could ascertain two more heirs to Prince's estate, but a diverse array of characters have also staked claims.

The court in suburban Carver County on Wednesday received a petition from a man in southern California, Rodney Dixon, who asked the judge to prohibit any immediate selling of assets and to consider interested parties other than family heirs.

Dixon has told the court that he spoke to Prince in 1982 on his tour bus and that they had a "meeting of the minds" that the singer would in effect give him everything he had.

Dixon, who said he was a college basketball player at the time, is seeking control of copyright to all of Prince's output as well as $1 billion – a figure far above estimates of Prince's net worth, which is usually put in the hundreds of millions of dollars. – Rappler.com

'Suicide Squad' fans demand closure of Rotten Tomatoes

LOS ANGELES, USA – Thousands of angry DC Comics fans are backing a petition calling for the closure of reviews aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, after a lukewarm response to supervillain blockbuster Suicide Squad.

A poster calling himself Abdullah Coldwater of Alexandria, Egypt, started the campaign accusing the site of giving "unjust bad reviews... and that affects people's opinion even if it's a really great (movie)."

The petition at change.org had received almost 15,000 signatures by midday on Wednesday.

Rotten Tomatoes works out the percentage of reviews that can be deemed positive. It does not offer its own critical assessment of movies.

Based on 88 reviews, it currently shows a 32 percent rating for the hotly anticipated Suicide Squad, which hits cinemas on Friday (August 4, Thursday in Manila). (READ: Movie reviews: What critics are saying about 'Suicide Squad')

Starring Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie as a band of deadly criminals recruited to execute dangerous black-ops missions, the film has an average critical score of 4.9 out of 10.

"If you know someone you really can't stand – not someone you dislike, not someone who rubs you the wrong way, but someone you really loathe and detest – send that person a ticket for Suicide Squad," wrote Mick LaSalle of the San Fransisco Chronicle.

Warner Bros. executives were hoping it would get right what March's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – its heavily criticized predecessor in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) – got wrong, promising a lighter, more fun film.

"Suicide Squad boasts a talented cast and a little more humor than previous DCEU efforts," the Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus reads.

"But they aren't enough to save the disappointing end result from a muddled plot, thinly written characters and choppy directing."

The tepid response to David Ayer's film has piled further pressure on Warner to finally produce a film to match the critical success of rival studio Marvel's superhero universe.

April's Captain America: Civil War made more than $1.1 billion worldwide and has a 90 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 320 reviews.

Ayer defended the movie, quoting Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata's famous line translated as "I'd rather die standing than live on my knees."

The phrase gained currency last year with the Islamist murder of 12 staff members of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, whose slain editor Stephane Charbonnier had used it in an interview wih Le Monde.

"Zapata quote is my way of saying I love the movie and believe in it. Made it for the fans. Best experience of my life," Ayer tweeted.

What the critics think of Suicide Squad may not matter, however, if it manages to emulate the financial performance of its predecessors.

DC's Man of Steel (2013) managed 56 percent on Rotten Tomatoes while Batman v Superman is sitting on a woeful 27 percent rating – but the films made a healthy $1.5 billion between them. – Rappler.com

BRITNEY'S SURPRISE. TV host Jimmy Kimmel gets a wake up call from pop star Britney Spears and her dancers – literally. Screengrab from YouTube/Jimmy Kimmel Live

MANILA, Philippines – Jimmy Kimmel got a surprise on Wednesday, August 3 when Britney Spears and some of her dancers dropped by at his home in the middle of the night.

In a pre-taped segment, which aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Britney along with her dancers and some of Jimmy's crew went to his home, where his wife Molly greeted them.

The group – complete with human disco ball – quietly went up to his room and gave Jimmy the ultimate wake up call with a dance number on his bed, set to her new song "Make Me."

Following the dance number, Jimmy told Britney: "Thanks for coming by. Have a good day. What happened to my wife?"

The prank comes after Britney confirmed that she was coming out with a new album called Glory on August 26.

This is not the first time Jimmy was pranked at his home. Last year, Rihanna barged into his home and gave him a song number on April Fool's Day. – Rappler.com
