MANILA, Philippines – Courtesy of director Lee Unkrich and Entertainment Weekly, fans now have a better idea of what to expect from Coco, the upcoming 2017 film from animation giant Pixar.
In a series of tweets, Lee posted a key piece of artwork from the film: concept art showing the lead, Miguel, with his great-grandmother, Mama Coco.

Lee, a Pixar veteran also well known for directing mega hit Toy Story 3, also posted 3 major casting reveals: Benjamin Bratt will play a music icon named Ernesto de la Cruz, Gael Garcia Bernal will play a character called Hector, and 12-year-old Anthony Gonzalez will play the lead, Miguel.

A new piece from Entertainment Weekly's Marc Snetiker reveals even more details about the plot, which centers around a young Mexican boy named Miguel yearning to stretch his musical wings. The problem is, his family isn't into music, because of a painful moment in his family history.
Now Miguel has a musical idol – the late singer Ernesto de la Cruz. According to the details provided by EW, it seems like Miguel will find himself in the "Land of the Dead," where he'll encounter deceased members of his own clan in his quest to look for Ernesto, and "earn his family’s blessing to perform, and return to the Land of the Living before time runs out."
And since this is a Pixar film, we're sure that it will tug on the heartstrings too – family seems to be front and center in the film, as we can see in the concept artwork.
