MANILA, Philippines – BB Gandanghari has filed a petition to change her gender and name in California.

On Instagram, BB, formerly known as Rustom Padilla, shared a photo of the document she filed, indicating the change of the name Rustom to Binibini Gandanghari and gender.

MANILA, Philippines – A week before Dolce Amore's series finale, the show's stars gave their fans a treat, serenading and entertaining them at a concert titled "Choose Love."

Liza Soberano, Enrique Gil, Matteo Guidicelli, and more sang and danced to the cheers of the crowd at the Kia Theatre in Cubao on Saturday, August 20.

In between, they riled the crowd up by asking about how they wanted the main characters Serena (Liza) and Tenten (Enrique) be together in the end.

The concert started out with covers of The Beatles' "Love Is All You Need," One Direction's "Perfect" and "History," Meghan Trainor's "Me Too," and more by Sure Ramirez, Joseph Marco, Kean Cipriano, Andrew E, and the rest of the cast.

Matteo Guidiceli then took the stage, singing his song "Ipapadama Nalang" and The Script's "The Man Who Can't Be Moved," a request from the fans online.

Liza, then Enrique, took the stage next, with both performing requests too. Liza sang and danced to Ariana Grande's "Problem," while Enrique danced to the song "Trumpets."

The night ended with a thank you from the cast to the fans.

MANILA, Philippines – Music producer and manager Lou Pearlman, behind some of the most famous boy bands including the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, died on Friday, August 19 of an unknown illness. He was 62 years old.

Former *NSYNC member Lance Bass posted a message about his death.

"Word is that #LouPearlman has passed away. He might not have been a stand up businessman, but I wouldn't be doing what I love today wout his influence. RIP Lou," he wrote.

Lou was credited for the success of groups such as Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, and LFO, among others, in the 90s, but he faced a lot of legal issues and eventually went to prison. Some of the groups filed suits against him, saying that their contracts unfairly benefited him over the talents. 

When he died, Lou had been serving a 25-year jail sentence, after he was convicted of a Ponzi scheme and fraud. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to charges of "money laundering, conspiracy and fraud" and was ordered to serve a 25-year sentence. – Rappler.com

Armo: "So the first thing we're gonna do is tune our guitar one half-step down to E flat.

"Okay, so now that we’re all tuned, let’s start with this Cadd9 shape on the 3rd fret. I have my middle finger on the 3rd fret of the 5th string, my ring finger on the 2nd string, 3rd fret, and my pinky finger on the first string, on the 3rd fret. We’re going to count 3, 4.

What’s gonna happen here is we’re gonna keep our bottom fingers, our 3rd and 4th fingers on these two strings. All that’s gonna move is our middle finger and pointer finger. We’re gonna start, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3,

"Now, for the first verse.

"Going through the verse, it’s the same principle, the same rhythm, but our fingers are gonna move from here, to the top string, second fret. Third fret, top string also.

"And now for the chorus. The chorus chords are G, F#, F# minor, E minor, and a C. I’m still keeping my two fingers on the bottom strings.

"Yael’s style, there’s that economy of finger movement. So, he keeps two fingers on the same spot, then moves the bass notes around. It’s just a matter of going through the scales, so chorus goes, G, F#, E minor, and C.

So that’s how you play ‘Gemini’ from intro, verse, to chorus. The harder part is figuring out the picking pattern, but I just go, 3, 4."

MANILA, Philippines – On Sunday, August 21, Antonetthe Tismo, Justin Alva, Joshua Oliveros became the Top 3 finalists of The Voice Kids Philippines season 3. (READ: 'The Voice Kids PH 3' semifinals: Top 3 unveiled)

The semifinals episode was held live at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World, where each of the Top 9 performed over August 20 and 21.

One from each of the coaches' 3 finalists were voted by the audience to move on to the next round.

On Sunday, each contestant on coach Lea Salonga's team performed before the voting for her final representative was opened.

The coaches then took the stage with the Top 9, to sing Francis Magalona's "Kaleidoscope World."

The Top 3 announcement started with Antonetthe from Sharon Cuneta's team, Justin from Bamboo's team, then Joshua for Lea's team. The announcement was an emotional moment for all the kids in the Top 9.

In 2015, when Lea was asked how the coaches help the kids cope, she said that both the parents and the coaches provide support for them.

“We [the coaches] will be there – I mean, we go to the waiting rooms also after each show is taped, and we give hugs to these kids, and we tell them. We’re honest. It’s like, ‘You have something special. Do not let this experience take that away from you,’” she said.

The 3 kids will compete for the top prize on August 27 and 28.

MANILA, Philippines – Celebrities gathered on Sunday, August 21 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas for the third Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) List Awards. (FULL LIST: Winners, PEP List Awards 2016)

The tandem of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza aka AlDub took home 6 awards from the Pepster's Choice and Editor's Choice. 

Ken Chan won the Teleserye Actor of the Year for Destiny Rose, while Glaiza de Castro won for her role in The Rich Man's Daughter. 

Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo meanwhile took home the Pepster's choice for Movie Star of the Year for Male and Female. Kathryn also won Teen Star of the Year.

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera got the Wedding of the Year award. The couple married in 2014. Their award was received by Gabby Eigenmann.

Angelica Panganiban meanwhile won Comedy Star of the Year (female), while Eat Bulaga's Wally Bayola took the Comedy Star Male of the Year (male).

On TheWings of Love was Primetime Series of the Year, with Cherry Pie Picache winning Teleserye Supporting Actress of the Year.

Ang Probinsyano's Arjo Atayde meanwhile won the Teleserye Supprting Actor of the Year and paid tribute to Coco Martin, whom he said gave him the chance to prove himself as an actor.

It's a natural feeling for anyone in a competition, all the more for Sharon, who's a coach on the show for the first time.

Sharon joined Bamboo Manalac and Lea Salonga – both of whom have been on all the seasons of The Voice of theh Philippines and The Voice Kids Philippines– to replace coach Sarah Geronimo.

"I'm nervous because they're all good, and they're all deserving," explained Sharon at the end of the semifinals on Sunday, August 21. The public voted for each of the coaches' Top 3 representative, and each was announced on Sunday.

"Justin and Joshua are very – yung performances nila very heartwarming din, at saka yung background stories nila. Tapos may talento, may dating, so patas-patas lang 'yan," Sharon said further.

When told that she was getting great feedback from the show's audience, Sharon said that she wasn't expecting it. "I'm just being myself. Sabi nila, 'Kalog pala 'to,' sabi ko, 'Bat di nila alam ganon ako?'"

(I'm just being myself. They said, '[I didn't know] She's quirky,' I said, 'Why didn't they know I'm like that?')

Sharon said that her late mom, Elaine, had been around for her previous shows, which is why she couldn't really let loose. Elaine died in 2014.

"All the years that I had a musical talk show, parang sabi ni mommy, 'Magtino ka, 'wag mo ako bigyan ng kahihiyan.' So laging naba-backburner yung kakalogan ko. And now, parang you know, I'm 50, I've earned it. So now, mas cute pala kasi mas natutuwa sila."

(All the years that I had a musical talk show, mommy said, 'Be well-behaved, don't give me any reason for embarrassment.' So my wackiness was always put on the backburner. And now, you know, I'm 50, I've earned it. So now, I'm cuter because people are amused by it, apparently.)

Fears on 'The Voice'

Among Sharon's fears about being on The Voice Kids was that she'd have nothing to contribute, she said.

But The Voice Philippines staples Lea and Bamboo are happy with her, said Sharon, and the feeling is mutual.

"I just love Lea, I love Bamboo, I adore being in the show, and I love working with them. Kasi total growth and parehong super magaling, so parang walang dehado sa mga contestants (because there is total growth and they're both very good, so none of the contestants are at a disadvantage)."

Would she be willing to be a coach again on regular version of The Voice of Philippines next season?

"I have no problem with that. It's gonna be another new experience for me, sakali (if ever), kasi (because) it won't be kids anymore, it will be the regular The Voice, so let's see. I probably won't cry as much," she answered with a laugh.

MANILA, Philippines – In an interview with Rappler's Maria Ressa on Monday, August 22, Robin Padilla clarified his previous comments about celebrity drug users. (READ: Robin Padilla on Duterte, De Lima, and Marcos burial)

In a previous interview with the press at a media event, Robin appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte not to publicize the Philippine National Police's list of well-known personalities who are drug users.

His comment sparked criticism, with many asking what made these personalities special. Robin directly answered a question from a social media user regarding this at his Rappler interview.

The actor, who supported Duterte's presidential campaign, made a distinction between drug users and pushers, saying that drug users need to be shown compassion and go through programs to help them be contributing members of society. He said that when he was sharing his view that the names should not be released, he was referring specifically to users, not pushers. 

"Kaya 'yung sinabi ko, huwag munang banggitin 'yung mga user, maliwanag po ang sinabi ko, user. 'Yung offenders, not the criminals; pusher kasi criminal na 'yan, o 'yung user na nakagawa ng crime, iba na 'yun eh," he said. 

(When I said, please don't release the names of the users, I was clear with what I said: users – the offenders, not the criminals. Pushers are criminals, or users who have committed the crime.) 

"Ngayon isama ko na ngayon 'yung mga ordinaryong tao na nagtatrabaho, isama na natin, 'yung mga nasa showbiz na user, pati na rin 'yung mga ordinaryong Pilipino, na nagtatrabaho na user. Bakit natin sila kailangan sirain ang buhay? 'Di ba pagka sinabi po natin kasi, na rehabilitation, ang una nating gagawin, one, alisin 'yung drugs; second, make them productive." 

(Now, let's talk about ordinary citizens who work, and let's talk about celebrity users. Why do we need to ruin their lives? Because when we say rehabilitation, the first thing we do is, one, remove the drugs; second, make them productive.)

"Itong mga taong 'to, itong artista, at 'yung mga ordinaryong taong may trabaho, productive na, nakakatulong na nga sa gobyerno, nagbabayad na nga ng tax, eh bakit natin sila – 'pag hiniya mo 'yan publicly, tatanggalin 'yan sa trabaho. O eh di problema na, dalawa na 'yung problema natin sa kanila, kahit na dapat isa na lang."

(These people, these artists and the ordinary people, they have jobs, they're productive already, they are already helping the government, they pay taxes. Why would we – if you embarrass them publicly, they won't have jobs anymore. Then we'll have two problems with them, instead of just one.)

In an earlier portion of the interview, Robin further clarified his previous comments at the same media event about his opinion that celebrity users should dialogue with the Philippine National Police and other agencies, versus being publicly named, especially because they are taxpayers too. This was the original comment: 

"Sana magkaroon muna ng diyalogo ang mga artista, ang mga manager sa PNP or kung ano mang ahensya. Ang mga artista po tandaan natin, mga tax-payers din po sila, sumusunod din po sila sa batas. Kung ano man po ang kanilang kakulangan, kung ano man ang kanilang pagkakamali, ay sana po, mapag-usapan," he said then. 

Robin acknowledged comments from social media users that whether they were taxpayers or not was not relevant to the argument. He sought to clarify this further by sharing that he felt working Filipinos who were users, not just celebrities, would cease to contribute taxes that the government so needs for various programs and projects, should they be publicly shamed and forced to stop work, for example. 

But when it comes to celebrity pushers, Robin has a different view. 

"'Pag meron po kayong kilalang artista na nagpu-push ng drugs, sabihin 'nyo po sa akin, ako mismo ang magsasabi kay Mayor (President Duterte) at kay Bato (Chief Superintendent Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa)," said Robin. "Sumama ka pa, hulihin natin, hiyain natin kung gusto mo. Pero 'yung user, come on, man, victim 'yan."

(If you know a celebrity who is pushing drugs, tell me, and I will personally tell President Duterte and Chief Superintendent Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa. Come with me, let's arrest him, embarrass him, if you want. But the users, come on, man, they're victims.)

Earlier in the interview, Robin expressed his view that drug users are victims: "Ang sabi [ng mga experts], ang mga drug addict daw ay dapat nating ituring na mental health problem, it's a health problem, hindi siya crime."

(What the experts say is that drug addicts should be considered to have a mental health problem. It's a health problem, not a crime.)

Politicians vs ordinary drug users

During the interview, Robin also spoke about the difference between ordinary Filipinos, including working people and showbiz personalities, and politicans and even police officers. 

"Tandaan po natin, mga politican, may mandate iyan. Sumumpa 'yan sa harapan ng batas ng Diyos at batas ng tao na sila’y magsisilbi sa atin, kaya 'yung crime na ginawa nila, na sila’y sumuporta, at nag-push ng drugs, heinous po 'yon."

(Remember, politicians have a mandate. They swear in front of the law of God and the law of man that they will serve us, that's why their crime, which they support, and the pushing of drugs, that's heinous.)

The same goes for the police, he said, who are supposed to enforce the law.

"Hindi natin p'wedeng ikumpara ang politican, ang pulis, sa artista o ordinaryong tao, malayo po, malayong malayo," said Robin.

MANILA, Philippines – Robin Padilla is happy for his older sister, BB Gandanghari, a transgender woman and celebrity who recently petitioned to formally change her name and gender in California.

Robin and his siblings weren't on the best of terms with BB, formerly known as Rustom Padilla, immediately after her transition, but in later years, things were said to have improved between the siblings. 

On BB's recent petition for a name and gender change, Robin said during an interview with Rappler's Maria Ressa on Monday, August 22, that he still doesn't necessarily agree with her choices, but he could be happy for her. 

"Hanggang ngayon, siyempre, I protest. Pero sa atin naman lahat siguro in general, pag mahal natin ang isang tao at masaya yung tao, it doesn’t mean you support, but you are happy as well. Masaya na rin ako para sa kaniya," he said.

(Until today, of course, I protest. But I guess for all of us in general, if you love a person and she's happy, it doesn't mean you support, but you are happy as well. I am happy for her.)

Robin said that BB has done much to change his views on the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. 

"Siyempre hindi naman lahat ng tao bukas lagi ang iniisip, marami din akong pagkakamali at marami din akong pagkakamali sa kanya," admitted Robin.

(Of course not all people are open-minded, I made a lot of mistakes too, and I did her a lot of wrong.)

"As long as para po sa akin, you are not violating any law, at wala kang sinasaktan na tao, then we are good, we are at peace," said Robin, who noted that the community has huge contributions to his own industry and to many others, as well. 

(As long as, for me, you are not violating any law, and you're not hurting anyone, then we are good, we are at peace.)

He earlier added that his family understood that this is BB's choice, and that no one is expecting her to change her mind. 

"Wala na po talaga ma’am, mama ko na lang po ang nananatiling naniniwala na babalik pa si Kuya Rustom. Pero kami, siguro, humor na lang, pero 50 na siya, 49, baka magalit sa akin ‘yun, nasabi ko edad niya. Siguro mahirap na, ‘yun na ‘yun," he said.

(No ma'am, it's just my mom who still believes our brother Rustom could come back. But I guess, with us, we use humor...she's 50, 49 – she might get mad at me, I said her age. I guess that's that.)

NEW YORK, USA – Investigators looking into pop legend Prince's death believe that counterfeit pills may have killed him, a report said Monday, August 22.

The Star Tribune, the daily newspaper in Prince's hometown of Minneapolis, said that authorities turned to the theory after seizing pills from Prince's Paisley Park estate.

The confiscated pills were marked as hydrocodone, a commonly prescribed drug for moderate pain relief, but in fact contained fentanyl, an intensely powerful painkiller for which Prince had no prescription.

An autopsy earlier found that Prince died on April 21 from an accidental overdose of fentanyl but did not address how he obtained the drug. (READ: Prince death ruled a painkiller overdose)

The Star Tribune, which quoted an anonymous source, said that investigators were "leaning toward the theory that he took the pills not knowing they contained the drug."

Prince was found dead in his Paisley Park estate just as he prepared to discuss treatment with a California expert in painkiller addiction. (READ: Doctor prescribed Prince medication before death – report)

The 57-year-old "Purple Rain" star was outwardly a model of health who was known to be conscientious in his food choices and critical of musicians who abused drugs.

But Prince was private about his personal life and was believed to be quietly in pain from a hip operation after years of awe-inspiring stage moves.

One of the most influential artists of his generation, the sprightly rocker was just five-foot-two (1.6-meter) and 112 pounds (51 kilograms).

In his death, Prince became the highest-profile victim of a US epidemic of painkiller addiction.

The US Drug Enforcement Administration in a report last month said that fentanyl was more widely available and killing more people than at any point since the drug's creation in 1959.

The federal agency said that hundreds of thousands of counterfeit painkiller pills were on the US market, many containing fentanyl that was mass-produced in labs in China. – Rappler.com

CHICAGO, USA – The real-life inspiration for the "Little Red-Haired Girl," the Peanuts comic strip character who infatuated Charlie Brown, has died at age 87.

Donna Wold, a red-haired young woman who captivated Peanuts creator Charles Schulz and formed the basis for the beloved cartoon character, died earlier this month, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported over the weekend.

Just as the Little Red-Haired Girl was the one who got away for Charlie Brown, so too did Wold from Schulz.

According to The Washington Post, the two dated for around two years, with Schulz even proposing marriage.

But Wold, back then known as Donna Johnson, would ultimately marry someone else – her husband Allan – with whom she had four children and served as a foster mother to at least 40 children, many of whom she named after Peanuts characters, the Star Tribune reported.

Wold was only outed as the inspiration for the Little Red-Haired Girl in 1989 in the Schulz biography Good Grief, the newspaper said.

A long-time Minneapolis area resident, Wold died August 9 of heart failure and complications of diabetes, it said.

"I've had a good life," Wold told the Post last summer. "A very happy life."

According to the Star Tribune, she was an avid camper and traveler – she has been to the Grand Tetons at least 40 times – and also loved playing cards.

Wold is survived by her husband, three daughters, seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, it said. – Rappler.com

LOS ANGELES, USA – Oscar-winning Jennifer Lawrence was named the world's highest-paid actress for the second year running on Tuesday, August 24 with estimated pre-tax earnings of $46 million. (READ: Jennifer Lawrence tops list of highest-paid actresses)

The 26-year-old American raked in the lion's share from a profit share in the final Hunger Games movie, which grossed $650 million, Forbes magazine said.

An upfront fee for the forthcoming space thriller Passengers also helped the 26-year-old push her pay day above second-ranked Melissa McCarthy, who pocketed $33 million.

The world's 10 highest-paid actresses made a combined $205 million in the 12 months from June 1, 2015 before fees and taxes, said Forbes.

But the actors' list due to be published on Thursday is expected to show once again men banking far more than their female counterparts.

The issue of pay disparity grabbed headlines in 2014 after a leak of stolen emails from Sony Pictures Entertainment showed that Lawrence was paid less than her male co-stars in the hit movie American Hustle.

Patricia Arquette also railed against the industry's gender-based wage gap during her acceptance speech after winning a statuette at last year's Academy Awards.

Lawrence, who took the best actress Oscar for 2012 comedy-drama Silver Linings Playbook, is down from $52 million in last year's list, although she is still considered Hollywood's hottest property by some distance.

McCarthy, 45, earned $10 million more than the 2015 estimate thanks to a reported eight-figure payday for Ghostbusters.

Perennial A-list darling Scarlett Johansson came in third with $25 million, while Jennifer Aniston, who makes most of her cash through endorsements, bagged $21 million.

Fan Bingbing of China, a relative unknown in Hollywood, rounded out the top five, making the list for the second consecutive year with $17 million.

India's Deepika Padukone – who made $10 million – was the only other actress from outside Hollywood to feature in the rankings.

The 30-year-old, who came 10th, earns far less than her Tinseltown counterparts for her Bollywood roles, but compensates with more than a dozen lucrative endorsements, Forbes said.

MANILA, Philippines – Thor and Loki might be brothers and archenemies, but the two put their differences aside to put a smile on a few kids' faces.

Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, who play Thor and Loki in Marvel's Avengers movies, visited the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane, Australia and posted a few photos of their stay on social media.

The two stars talked and played with the kids at the hospital, with Chris even bringing Thor's hammer, Mjolnir.

"'Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor!' (i.e. everyone but the weirdo in the black suit)," Tom captioned his photo with two kids holding Mjolnir.

MANILA, Philippines – There's a new challenge going viral online, recently made more popular by comedian Vice Ganda. Vice talked about the "Pak Ganern" challenge on Showtime on their August 17 episode, and it's quickly become popular among social media users.

"Ang laro ngayon ng mga totoong lalaki ay Pak Ganern (Right now, the game that real men are playing is Pak Ganern)," says Vice in the video below.

He then demonstrates the game with the help of Showtime hosts Billy Crawford, Vhong Navarro, and Jhong Hilario. Pak Ganern is similar to the "Nanay Tatay" children's hand game, but with an added shake of the hips.

NEW YORK, USA – The turbulent life of Britney Spears – who went from teenage pop idol to tabloid fodder – is becoming a television biopic.

Lifetime, a US network geared toward women, said Wednesday, August 24, it had given the green light to a 2-hour film on the singer's life, tentatively called "Britney," to air next year.

Starring as Spears, one of the most recognizable musicians of her generation, will be Natasha Bassett, a rising actress from Australia, a Lifetime representative said.

Bassett, who started her own career as a child, appeared as a 1950s starlet in the latest film by the Coen Brothers, "Hail, Caesar!"

Lifetime said "Britney" will trace the 34-year-old Spears from her childhood in Louisiana, where her talent was recognized early on.

Spears became one of the most successful stars of the 1990s, topping the charts with songs that combined a squeaky-clean pop sound and undertones of teenage sexuality.

But her career quickly descended amid a messy personal life that included a highly public breakup with fellow star Justin Timberlake, two marriages in 2005 alone, and being caught on camera nearly dropping one of her two children from her lap while driving.

Spears has found more stability since starting a residency show in Las Vegas in late 2013.

She is releasing her ninth album, "Glory," on Friday, August 25, and two days later is set to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards. – Rappler.com
