Confirmed: 'Les Miserables' coming to Manila, Rachelle Ann Go to star as Fantine

MANILA, Philippines – The iconic musical Les Miserables is coming to Manila, and the Philippines' very own Rachelle Ann Go will return home to star as the hapless, tortured soul Fantine. 

The show will begin its run March 2016. 

Rachelle made her debut as Fantine on the West End stage in June 2015. 

Rachelle was previously in West End’s Miss Saigon, where she played Gigi Van Tranh, a role which has earned her a number of accolades.

Joining Rachelle Ann, following a recent Australian Helpmann Award win as the iconic Jean Valjean is Simon Gleeson. Opposite him, Javert will be played by Earl Carpenter, directly from his performance of the role in the Broadway company of Les Mis.

Les Miserables, fondly also known as Les Mis, follows the story of Jean Valjean, a convict who escapes from prison, where he was incarcerated for 19 years after stealing a loaf of bread and a number of escape attempts Les Mis is set in volatile times in 19th century France, where the divide between rich and poor is keenly felt and sentiments championing social justice are growing. Along the way, Valjean learns the true meaning of ultimate redemption and healing.  

"After its Sydney and Brisbane run, I’m delighted to be bringing this new version to Manila in March, with a wonderful cast that include the current London star playing Fantine, acclaimed Philippine actress Rachelle Ann Go who received enormous acclaim when I took her to London to appear as ‘Gigi’ in my hugely successful new production of Miss Saigon.

"Over the last 25 years I have had a wonderfully rewarding relationship with Filipino talent, introducing the best of them to audiences around the world so I’m thrilled that this time one of my productions can be seen in its full splendor in Manila,” producer Cameron Mackintosh said in a press release.
