The news was also confirmed by the show's star, Rachel Bloom, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Sunday, January 10, backstage at the Golden Globes.
"One of our characters happens to be Filipino so when we realized no one else had even made the effort to show a Filipino family on an American comedy, it taught me a lot about Filipino culture," Rachel said. Rachel's co-star Vincent Rodriguez III, is Filipino-American.
“It’s also taught me really about how important diversity is, if you want to tell a new story,” she added.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is on its first season, and the mid-season premiere is set to air on January 28.
In Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Rachel plays a lawyer from Manhattan who moved to West Covina, California to pursue her long time crush Josh. She gets hired at a law firm, meets new friends, and finds herself in a an on-again-off-again relationship with a guy named Greg, who happens to be Josh's friend.
Lea is currently in New York as part of the cast of the Broadway play Allegiance, starring George Takei, and Telly Leung. Lea is also set to star in the Manila production of Fun Home this year. – Rappler.com
