MANILA, Philippines – Supporters and members of the industry from the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) gathered on Tuesday night, October 18 for a celebration entitled A Celebration of Philippine Cinema 2016 at the FDCP - Cinematheque Manila.
The event was attended by personalities from films recently recognized by international giving bodies and who brought honor to the country. They were given special recognition by the FDCP, headed by the new chairperson, Liza Diño-Seguerra.
Among those spotted at the event were Cannes Film Festival Best Actress winner Jaclyn Jose, Ang Babaeng Humayo star Charo Santos, actors Bernardo Bernardo, Allen Dizon, young star Therese Malvar, Bela Padilla, and directors Joel Lamangan, Carlitos Siguion-Reyna with son Rafa.
"Yung (The) film ambssadors na iyon napaka importante (are very important) because they represent our culture and they provided opportunity for the world to experience who we are as people – our stories to be told and that's very important, especially now that the Philippines is now on the spotlight 'di ba, because of our political situation, our films," said Liza at the event.
She also said that the FDCP is coming up with plans for projects that will focus on the audience, as well as on topics like film appreciation and literacy, plus workshops.
