MANILA, Philippines – In the upcoming Sky Original series The Young Pope, the pontiff is played by Jude Law, and from the casting alone, things might get interesting.
The Young Pope, helmed by Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty), is the fictional Pius XIII, aka Lenny Belardo. Aside from being young, he's the first American Pope ever, and apparently, a smoker.
"We find him on the morning of his first day in office, preparing to enter into the power struggles inside the closed, secretive Vatican state," reads the caption on the video.
His looks aren't the only peculiar thing about this pontiff. In a chilling voice, he says "I'm a contradiction. I'm God, one in three and three in one. Like Mary, virgin and mother. Like man, good and evil."
"What do you intend to do?" a voice asks Lenny off-screen.
"Revolution," he responds.
The Young Pope is a joint production between Sky, HBO, and Canal+ and will air this October on Sky Atlantic, based in the United Kingdom and Ireland. – Rappler.com
