Monsour del Rosario proclaimed as Makati representative

MANILA, Philippines – Actor and taekwondo athlete Monsour del Rosario has been proclaimed as the new representative for the first district of Makati City. (Results: Stars running for office in 2016 elections)

Del Rosario was proclaimed as the winning candidate early Tuesday morning, May 10, at the Makati Coliseum. He won over his closest competition, Liberal Party's Norman Nichola Garcia, with 76,728, or 60.3% of the votes against the latter's 38,377 votes (30.1%).

His other opponents included Wilfredo Talag of the National People's Coalition (6,043, 4.7%, as well as independent candidates Eugenia Carreon (3,580, 2.8%) and Lourdesiree Latimer (2,584, 2.0%).

Before running for a seat in congress, Del Rosario served as councilor in the same legislative district of Makati City.

As a taekwondo champion, he became a member and captain of the Philippine National Taekwondo Team from 1982 to 1989. He also competed in several competitions including the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, and the Southeast Asian Games. 

He also appeared in a number of action films such as Bangis, Buhawi Jack, Pintados, as well as international films such as Demonstone, Bloodfist 2, When Eagles Strike and more.  – Rappler.com
