The stripper saga continues! Magic Mike is back, and Channing Tatum is set to return as Mike Lane for Magic Mike’s Last Dance.

According to a Deadline report, the third installment will be directed by original director Steven Soderbergh, produced by Magic Mike XXL director Gregory Jacobs, and written by Reid Carolin, who penned the first two films.

The sequel will skip a theatrical release and instead debut on WarnerMedia’s HBO Max. Plot, cast details, and a release date have yet to be confirmed.

Tatum, 41, shared the news via a Twitter post on Monday, November 29, sharing a photo of the first page of the script. “Well world, looks like Mike Lane’s tapping back in,” he wrote.

In an interview with Variety, the actor said that “there are no words for how excited [I am] to blow the doors off of the world of Magic Mike,” and that “the stripperverse will never be the same.”

Magic Mike first premiered in 2012 and was loosely based on Tatum’s own experiences as a stripper in Florida at the age of 18. Tatum starred alongside Alex Pettyfer, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, and Matthew McConaughey. Its commercial success spurred a sequel called Magic Mike XXL in 2015, which starred the same cast, excluding McConaughey but with the addition of Kevin Nash.

In 2018, stage musical adaptation Magic Mike Live London debuted at the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square.

HBO Max is set to premiere the upcoming reality competition series Finding Magic Mike in December 2021, with Tatum and Soderbergh at the helm. – Rappler.com
