Disney Channel announced on Tuesday, March 1 (Wednesday, March 2 in the Philippines), that they're going to start casting for High School Musical 4 soon.
According to reports, the upcoming movie will continue the story of the previous HSM movies, introduce new Wildcats and their rivals, the West High Knights.
There's no word yet as to whether cast members of the previous movies – Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale to name a few – will be back for cameos. (WATCH: Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens' 'High School Musical' audition)
In a press release posted on US Weekly, Disney Channel president Gary Marsh said: "High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a 4th installment of the High School Musical franchise."
Peter Barsocchini, who wrote the first 3 films, will be writing the 4th one too, this time with Dan Berendsen, who wrote Hannah Montana: The Movie. Jeffrey Hornaday is set to direct and choreograph.
It's been 10 years since the first HSM movie was released. Early in January, the cast had a reunion, but without Zac Efron, who played one of the lead characters, Troy Bolton.
HSM, one of the biggest Disney Channel movies, followed Troy and his schoolmate turned girlfriend, Gabriela Montez, as they made their way through high school and discovered who they really were, beyond high school stereotypes.
