Disney+ is set to premiere Monsters at Work, a television spinoff series to the 2001 film Monsters, Inc. on July 2.
Monsters at Work serves as a sequel to the first Monsters, Inc. film, which follows monsters who scare children and use their screams to power their city.
The upcoming 3D animated series brings fans back to the city of Monstropolis and is set six months after the original film. At this point, the city is now fueled by the laughter of children after they discover that it is ten times more powerful than screams.
The original leads, John Goodman and Billy Crystal, return to voice James P. “Sulley” Sullivan and Mike Wazowski, two best friends who work together at the power plant. The cast of the original film will also be returning for the series, alongside new characters.
In a teaser trailer released on May 18, fans were introduced to Tylor Tuskmon, voiced by Ben Feldman (NBC’s Superstore). The purple, horned protagonist is a recent Scare Major graduate who dreams of working with Sulley and Mike.
But since the company’s already shifted operations, he’s assigned to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team, the maintenance department of the company.
There, he is joined by a slew of new, quirky monsters voiced by Mindy Kaling (Inside Out), Henry Winkler (HBO’s Barry), Lucas Neff (Fox’s Raising Hope), and Alanna Ubach (Coco).
Monsters at Work was originally set to premiere in 2020, but was pushed back to 2021, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the film. – with reports from John Patrick Magno Ranara/Rappler.com
