It wasn’t quite the kind of video fans were hoping to see from the 2021 Grammy Awards, but if a short clip is any indication, Korean superstars BTS aren’t at all bothered over losing to “Rain On Me” for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
In the short clip, posted on the group’s official Twitter account, the septet are seated near each other in a set that takes design cues from the Grammys red carpet.
“That moment,” read the tweet posted hours after the 2021 Grammy awards aired on Monday, March 15 (Sunday, March 14 in the US).
Dressed in Louis Vuitton, the boys cheer and hold on to each other as they brace for the announcement. And while they surely were hoping for their first Grammy win for their music, it barely took a few seconds for them to hug each other and clap for the eventual winner in their category, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande for “Rain On Me.”
RM, Jin, V, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook were nominated for “Dynamite,” their first all-English single.
Later, Suga would post a selfie on Twitter with the caption (as translated by fans): “Next time for sure!”
BTS also performed during the 2021 Grammys ceremony, in a performance shot in Korea. (We’ll include the performance here, as soon as a recording is made available.)
The program, held in Los Angeles, was socially distant and featured both live and pre-recorded performances in different locations.
Despite losing in the 2021 edition of the Grammys, it’s been quite a huge year for the South Korean group. They released BE, an album which includes “Dynamite,” in November 2020. They also broke several records in 2020, such as being the first all-Korean act to top the Billboard charts.
“Life Goes On,” a single off BE, became the first foreign language song to enter the Billboard charts at No. 1.
